Two different versions of Prince Precision Response 660?

Hi all,

It's my 1st post! Glad to join ya~.

BTW, I was given a couple Prince Precision Response 660 by my uncle who is a big Rafter fan. Strangely, I noticed these two are quite different from each other. Anyone knows if there were two different versions?

1. More head light. The dot marking the center of head/hoop is a DOT. Overall feels lighter than #2

2. More head heavy. Feels much heavier than #1. This one measures 11.8 oz strung. The dot marking the center of the top of the head is a triangle.

Oh, the 'search' function is cool. Found lots of posts regarding the racquets.
But I haven't seen any information on different versions of 660 etc. Louis netman? Anyone?

Hey Gundham: Welcome to the message boards. There were "made in Thailand" versions of this stick that were at least 2pts less headlight. I don't recall the dot and triangle, however...I'm still searching for the more HL versions in 5/8 but to no avail...

I measured both and there is 7g difference in weight. But the heavier one feels much heavier (or headheavy). Swing weight-wise, it's one of the heaviest among my racquet collection. Both play very well though. Just different weight and balance(!). If I cut out parts of the headguard/grommet, would it lessen the headheaviness of that stick?

The 660, like all its predecessors have a standard, short headguard. I have heard that the Warrior headguard fits on the 660. It looks to be lighter than the 660 cause its very "hole-drilled," yet still provides protection. 2pts or more HL can't be made up by any headguard mod, however...BTW, those heavier, less HL 660s are better baseline bats IMO...

Ah! you mean warrior MP headguard, right? 7g...long time ago, some people measured the difference of body weight before and after a man passed away. The difference was 7 g if I remember correctly. They reported it as the weight of soul, LOL. Dying on a very precise balance...

BTW, I think the paintjob of 660 is one of the prettiest! (and PRTi's is one of the worst...)

Found and bought a precision response today for $10 to see how it compared. I haven't yet rallied with it... but it feels quite a bit heavier...

I haven't tried TT warrior MP although have tried OS which I didn't like. Warrior OS was too light compared to 660. Being a Rafter fan myself, I also wanted to play his real racquet. As I wrote above, I have two different versions. I haven't played them much yet but found they are quite demanding although they weigh only around 11.5 oz range (I have used RD-7, C-10, PC600 but 660 seems to be least Gundam-friendly). It could be their very old, cheap strings.

Hey netman, any suggestion of strings for 660s? My 660s feel so LOW-powered. I like low powered sticks but these feel dead.

Finally getting over being sidelined since May, I just strung up my 660s...
These frames,IMO, require gut or a hybrid thereof to add oomph and feel (also be warned that this frame will tear through strings due to it's very open pattern). I also have quite a bit of added weight at 3 & 9 and in the handle (360g, 8pts HL). The 660's are kind of like an open patterned MW 200 as they absorb power. Mine also have the handles modded with birch plywood over the funky, perforated rubber handle to add weight, and to firm up the bevels. I use two overgrips right on the wood as it increases feel while the combination of wood over the cushion-rubber handle acts to dampen unwanted shock (even more than Volkl's patented "Sensor Tour" system). After customization, these frames can perform from all areas of the court and excel in the attacking style. Further, the wider, rounded head lends itself well to slight, latitudinal operator error, typical on tough half-volleys and instinctual net play. My conclusion: if they're good enough for Pat, they're good enough for anybody ;-) String that baby up with some good stuff and giv'er a go!!!

I understand that PR donated at least 50% of his $$ to charity....I'm keeping all my 660s and PRTi's as a tribute to PR. I even have 3 of PR's "Experimental" Prince frames which are actually 660's under a slick, black paint job (he used these just prior to the introduction of the Warrior)...

When I watch Rafter match video, I pull out my PR 660s or PRTi and hold them. For Guga circa 2000, I pull out Ti Radical midplus (I think he used PT280 underneath the paintjob). POG OS for Chang matches and an Estusa for Boris Becker. PR's experimental? I remember seeing experimentals for Capriati (diablo) or Ferrero but didn't they did the same for Rafter.

louis, do you think 660 is one of those low-powered, rather unforgiving racquets? I have been buying and selling (if I didn't like) many raquets for 3-4 years to find what I like. Volkl C10, Yonex RD-7, POG midplus are those I eventually sold. And ever reliable POG OS, user-friendly PS6.0 95 are my current favorites. I even found PRTi isn't that difficult to swing and play while 660 is.

I remember reading the review of PRTi-it is described to be an improvement over 660 and transfer energy (better than with 660 as it implied). Again, I am about to try newer strings to find out myself. Anyway, 660 is beautiful and both of them, 660 and PRTi are excellent SV sticks.

The weird rubber sleeve is the actual original handle on the 660. The other one you have is a custom molded handle...orig specs are 11.6, 4pts HL unstrung...

Thanks for the reply. I did not know that. I had never seen a Prince, or any racquet for that matter, with a handle like that. Did all the Prince racquets of that time have that?
