Vantagetennis.com = make your own racquet

I searched for "custom racquet" and came up with vantage tennis, a place where you can design and even buy your ideal racquet, minus all the technologies and funky paintjobs. Anyone know if these racquets are a good deal?

I'm told they're a decent deal, though they're about 50$ more expensive than your average bear... erm.. racquet, and for someone crazy like me who has his own ideas about what he likes, their selection is very slightly limited. But yes. They're the best deal I know of on the market at this time.

Please do a search for "Vantage" on this board. You'll find thousands of posts on them here as we've been talking about them for almost two years now.

to make a long story short, vantage was formed by Dunlop research and development team which was fired after the design of the m-fil line... so you know they're a quality brand...but the rackets aren't the cheapest...

if you have hundreds of dollars to spend, also look up bosworth...

The Bosworth racquets are completely custom, though to my knowledge you don't get to pick your specs; you fill out a form regarding your entire tennis... tennis-osity, and then they suggest some stuff, and then you give them $400 or more for them to take that stuff, and make it into a thing. But that's just what I've heard. I've seen the form, but I don't have $400 to throw down.

Well, it is old news as others have stated; and back when I bought them, they were a great deal. 300 for 2 racquets, a very nice 6-pack bag, and 6 sets of their multifilament string along with several overgrips.

Great racquet company. Quality is great also. You won't be sorry when you customize your own racquet, as long as you know what specs you actually want.

Just out of curiousity for those who have bought a Vantage:

What happens if you receive the racquet and you find that you don't like the setup/specifications?

I can imagine that it'd be harder to sell as compared to stock racquets from the commercially popular brands.

Not harder to sell in my experience, and if you think about it, why should it be? Every racquet of any brand has its own particular specifications that appeal to some segment of the buying public, and a Vantage is no different in this respect....but with a reputation for excellent quality. And without the depreciation of planned obsolescence (i.e., no new model every year).

Hi El Diablo, I did consider that point ... I also nearly ordered one from Vantage but held back because of the concern: what if I do not like the feel of it?

At least with the common brands, you can do a demo or borrow from others to hit around for a while before making a decision.

This is just my personal opinion.

I'm assuming Vantage still has its policy of accepting racquets back within 30 days if you're not happy. They made full refund if undamaged, something like 30% deducted if significantly damaged. There was the non-trivial expense of sending it back to England, though that might not be necessary now that Racquetmaxx in the southern USA is an affiliate.

vantage are some kind of in between. they offer some choices based on fixed parts they offer like a construction kit. anyhow it's not completely custom.
but bosworth do offer complete custom gear and i'd say $400 is quite fair for that.

Interesting. Thanks for the reply.
