Was Wimbledon 2023 the best ever Male and Female final combo of all time?

Particularly the women's. Probably the greatest match ever played.

The women’s final was very low quality, I’m not sure what you saw. If we’re willing to consider that as a duo in one of the greatest finals ever, why not 2008?

Obviously Nadal dethroning Federer needs no introduction, but Venus-Serena played a good match that year too. One of the few Venus wins over her sister.

1995 too had maybe the most dramatic Wimbledon final ever on the women’s side and then Sampras and Becker, grass court giants, dueling in the men’s (though Becker faded in the 4th set)

1999 French Open:

Men: Agassi comes from 2 sets down to beat Medvedev to complete the career Grand Slam..

Women: Graf comes back against Hingis to win her final Major, with the crowd turning against Hingis, the underhand serve, etc.

Jabeur played a terrible match. Her opponent played well, but it was not a great final.

Men's final was epic.

I don't get this take. There are early round women's GS matches that are levels higher than this one like Henin-Dementieva AO 2010.
When someone describes a dreadful match as the greatest match ever played...there's a good chance they're not serious.

The women's final was lousy. Should be the last slam final for either. Ons Jabeur is a veteran, and she was trembling so much she couldn't hit a decent shot all match long.

Of course, I skipped most of it.

Men's was good, but not one of those instant classic, but historical as Alcz starts to stake his claim as the true #1.
Women's was more about Jabeur losing than Vondy winning.

And it's not ignorance, it's wise decision making.

Wimbledon 2008 is clearly right up there with the best of them here.

The men’s final of course transcended the sport and will always be remembered (including my many casual fans) as a classic. And in the women’s final Serena hit 32 winners and 11 unforced errors (19 winners and 6 UEs in the first set), played well, but Venus withstood everything that she threw at her, and came out in top in a thrilling battle. That was surely one of Serena’s best ever performances in defeat during her career, alongside her 2001 Australian Open match vs. Hingis (I also thought she played well vs. Kuznestova at RG in 2009).

I liked the 1985 RG combo as well, both finals were enjoyable. On the women’s side, the final was pretty dramatic, and Evert toppling Navratilova was seen as an upset given how dominant Navratilova had been (including winning 15 of their last 16 matches including their last 2 after Evert had snapped her losing streak at the start of the year). Quality wise, I’d rank their 1986 RG final ahead of the 1985, but the 1985 match had more drama and is remembered more. And Wilander beating Lendl on the men’s side was fun, with Wilander outmanoeuvring and outsmarting Lendl, and coming to the net plenty which paid off. It was far better to watch than their 1987 final there which was a grindathon.

Was coming to post this. The 08 Women's final is INSANE ballstriking, and Serena was playing lights out and still lost in straights.
