Personally I would like to have been rich in the 1920's but enjoy the benefits of today's medical technology.
The 70s was the last era when there was a balance of power between capital and labour. After that the disaster that we see today began with Carter, before being perfected with Reagan and Thatcher.
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!
Little things like VIETNAM, Jimmy Carter, Energy Crisis, Terrorism, Highjacking airplanes, murder of athletes at the freaking Olympics, boycotts, oil embargoes, INFLATION globally! at least 3 Middle East wars...............DISCO
I grew up in the 70s (born in 1961) and IT SUCKED!!!!!!!! Oh my god and the clothes:shock:
Just a horrible terrible decade........I guess NONE of you remember gasoline rationing in the early 70s or lines going on and on for blocks because no one had gas in the pumps.
How about the Black September, Red Army Faction, SLA.........airplanes getting high jacked on a regular basis........old pictures from LIFE, Time...etc showing a line of planes from like 5 airlines that got high jacked all parked in the desert (Libya or Tunis) in the 70s..........then all the planes got blown up.
Yeah the 70s rocked...........clueless

The Symbionese Liberation Army, was a 1970's multi-racial militant group with the slogan, "Death to the fascist insect that preys upon the life of the people."
Bunch of wanna be terrorist idiots that robbed banks, killed and ***** innocents and tried blowing up a few things.
In other words: Cal Berkley grads

Could be so.. Got any stats prove it?
I mean, seriously, the reason of that Capital-Labour balance is exactly the balance of USA vs USSR in strategical terms. It broke down at the beginning of the 80´s.One thing is due to the other IMO.
The seventies were unreachable at the level of crushed hopes. The eilite re-learnt how to crack the whip and turn the citizens into subjects once more. Punk came to parody the despair and the terror.
Good times.
Anything was possible, life was full of adventure and danger if you wanted to look for it. Today things are to regulated and boring.
I assume you are talking about the USA only.
But in my country, the scene was very different. I spent my entire adolescence (high school to college) in the 1970s, so I have many fond personal memories from that decade. But it was also the decade when my country was put under Martial Law. All our civil liberties were taken away, many of my peers came home in body bags, and it disrupted the political structure so much that it became exponentially more complicated and disgusting afterwards.

No Europe as well I believe. Definitely England. Late sixties through to late seventies was a time of great social and political upheaval. It was only 20 years after the war, it felt like you could do whatever you put your mind to, whether that be good or bad. Then slowly everything became regulated as the social elite regained control.
Is there any other time with such a powerful and innovative blend of great music? I´d say the pattern of the world led to that.
I thought the innocence of the 60's was destroyed at the infamous Altamont Free Concert in 1969.Innocence was a trademark of the era
We had to grow up while being scared about nuclear war with the USSR(which in 1984 Time Magazine stated would be around for another thousand years) and the coming ice age.
True. When it comes to the latter threat , that was not something scientists had predicted yet the myth gained some traction in popular media. In fact , scientists warned already then about the warming caused by deforestation and burning of polluting fossil fuels that is now evident and that we younger ones are left to having to try to deal with,

read it for yourself.
As Sherlock Holmes used to say to Watson and Lestrade: "There is nothing new under the sun."
Great post Baghi
The nuclear war perception was very differently perceived round the world
BTW the 70 was the start of the so called new left, basically upon the Rome Club theories:Greens, Feminist, Pacifist, Gay/Lesbian rights movements and so on
