What are your USTA match records over the years?

I looked mine up going back 5 years in both leagues and tournaments.

In 2003 I was 11-1 in 3.5 competition (one win from Nationals) and 0-3 againt 4.0s. Bumped to 4.0 due to speed, consistency and first serve.
In 2004 I was 3-8 against 4.0s.
In 2005 I was 6-6 against 4.0s.
In 2006 I was 11-7 against 4.0s and 0-1 in open level competition.
in 2007 I was 9-5 against 4.0s and 3-0 against 4.5s. Bumped to 4.5 due to consistency, spins, serve, doubles skills.

I usually played #1 singles or #1 doubles for the 3.5 and 4.0 teams. I played #3 doubles for the 4.5 team. I find #1 4.0 players to be better than most #3 4.5 players. Overall in 5 years I was 43-31.

Are these results similar to how quickly others have moved up? How fast have you progressed in adult league tennis?

Ha! This should be fun, Kevhen.

2005: self-rated 2.5.

3-0 in league 2.5 singles
3-4 in league 2.5 doubles
4-1 in tournament 2.5 singles
3-2 in tournament 3.0 doubles

2006: computer-rated 3.0

0-4 in league 3.0 doubles
0-1 in league 3.0 singles
3-3 in league combo 5.5 doubles

2007: computer-rated 3.0

1-0 in league 3.0 singles
0-2 in league 3.5 singles
3-2 in league 3.0 doubles
1-2 in league 3.5 doubles
4-6 in league 6.5 combo
2-5 in league 7.0 mixed

Lordie, that sounds awful, huh? 27-32 lifetime. [edit: I'm on a winning streak!! So now it's 30-32 lifetime!]

:starts to whine:

That's not a fair picture of what I can do now, though. Since I started taking private lessons this spring, I am doing much better. In my 6.5 combo matches, I am *always* paired with another 3.0, so what do you expect, huh? :)

I just started (USTA) in August, played 3 tournaments so far.

3.0
W/L
0-1

3.5
1-2

So far I have had the worst luck weather-wise. First tournament was 108+ degrees, Second was raining, and got delayed 4 hours, and then last weekend I played in stupid wind (20-60+mph). Hopefully next time will be a bit more serene.

I have been playing for one year total. Can't wait to get better...

Without adding up all the team and tournament results over the years around .575 - .600. I have had several really good seasons and a few really bad seasons primarly from playing up a level. Overall having played over 300 matches I guess the results are OK.

This is approximate I actually did count it up once but that was awhile ago. Tournament level, not necessarily level of opponent I actually played.

I only have club singles, but here they are. I play guys who play USTA at 3.0 - 4.0 levels although in my new 4.0 league there are some I would consider true 4.5 players.

3.0 (return after 20 years away from tennis)

1st Season Fall 2005
7-5

2nd Season Winter 2006
12-2 (won league, bumped up)

3.5

1st Season Fall 2006
9-6

2nd Season Winter 2007
10-6 (moved up)

4.0 Fall 2007

5-3

Overall Record: 43-22

I just played a pickup match against an experienced 4.5 player -- who ranked me now at 4.0 although I still feel kind of 3.9ish. I could clearly see the difference between our levels although I'm PO'd that I lost 6-4, 6-3, and had 3-1 and 2-1 leads in each set. Then I let up (duh). I hadn't played the guy in two years...should have known better than taking him lightly.

In my currrent league, I'm just getting the feel for the new level, frankly. I fell behind 0-3 in EACH of my first three matches, climbed back in the first two only to lose tight sets. Won the third match, first set 6-3 after falling into the 'usual' 0-3 hole (I had had enough)...then 6-0, 6-0 double bagel against my last opponent.

Edited to update since the thread is still alive -- now 4-1 since my 0-2 start, seem to find myself playing as an all court counter-puncher against some power-loving big servers -- 6-1, 6-2; and 6-1, 6-1 were the results because I could block back their power and handle the rest. Big test for me tomorrow against one of the top players in the league -- my only loss in the last 5 matches was against another top guy, an experienced lefty that is a 4.5 playing down.

Obviously this is just for fun and these records are meaningless. Probally my three best matches statistically were in losses (close matches against superior opponents)

Hey Cindy, I was 3-8 back in 2004 playing 4.0s for the first full season and taking my lumps. We all take our lumps as we play up to get better. Otherwise you can call those other people who never lose Sandbaggers!

Wow everyone is putting alot of details in here so I will break mine out a little more.

2007 (early start has me at 4.5)
3-0 in 4.5 #3 doubles with 4.0 partner
8-3 in 4.0 #1 doubles
1-1 in 4.0 #1 singles
0-1 in 8.0 mixed

2006
0-1 in open doubles (lost 3 and 4 to 5.0 college guys)
4-1 in 4.0 #1 doubles
5-3 in 4.0 #1 singles
2-3 in 8.0 mixed

2005
3-2 in 4.0 #1 doubles
3-3 in 4.0 #1 singles
0-1 in 8.0 mixed

2004
1-2 in 4.0 #1 doubles
2-6 in 4.0 #1 singles

2003 (bumped to 4.0)
0-2 in 4.0 #3 doubles
0-1 in 4.0 #2 singles
11-1 in 3.5 #1 singles

All 5 USTA seasons
------------------
0-1 in open doubles
3-0 at 4.5 doubles
16-10 in 4.0 doubles
11-14 in 4.0 singles
2-5 in 8.0 mixed
11-1 in 3.5 singles
------------------
43-31

I can't believe my overall 4.0 singles is so bad at 11-14 but then I played #1 and lost to alot of guys who got bumped to 4.5. My mixed record also sucks but there are some very good mixed teams out there and I haven't always had the best mixed partners or adjusted my game enough. I had 3 very good 4.0 ladies offer to play 8.0 mixed with me next summer but now I got bumped to 4.5 so we will have to play 35s instead.

I have also maybe played better in non-USTA events where I won the Iowa Games gold medal in open doubles this summer and other trophies in smaller tournaments. USTA does usually bring out the better players though and larger draws too.

(Tournaments are much harder than League tennis here because usually only the top League players show up for the tournaments)

It's part of the process when you sign up for a USTA League Team.

My first year playing USTA league tennis was in 2003; I self-rated as a 4.0 and my record ended up being 1-4.

The next season a captain appealed my rating down to 3.5 (I really didn't know what this meant at the time), and I haven't had a losing record since then. Last year I was 24-5 (although a few of those losses were in 7.0 mixed play) and our summer team went to Sectionals. Currently still a computer rated 3.5, but I routinely beat 4.0's in practice matches.

Just looked up my results on tennislink several days ago. Older stuff isn't in there, but when I came back after a lot of years not playing as a 5.0 my record wasn't very good. Dropped to a 4.5 and won almost all the time at #1 then gradually started losing more often. We got a kid from college on our team and I played #2 in 2001 where there are records.
I was 4-0 until I dislocated my ankle in 2001, was 0-3 after that
2002 I was 2-5
2003 I was 0-12 - shouldn't have been trying to play with a torn elbow tendon
2004 and on, I didn't play
I came back this year as a 4.0, but not real successfully - won some mixed matches, but I'm just learning to serve without hurting my tendon.
