What Can Be Done With the Davis Cup?

The excitement and frenzy around the World Cup has me thinking that the Davis Cup needs some serious re-working. It was not very long ago that the Davis Cup was one of the premier international sporting events - not so much anymore. In fact very few of the top players seem to care much about it.

Some may say that tennis at the Olympics is now the place for international team play but It doesn't feel that way to me.

I think that tennis could learn from the World Cup and have a condensed international team event every two or four years. Could be a big win for the game. I know that tournament sponsors and directors would freak out trying to get this scheduled. The Ryder Cup in golf has figured it out why not tennis?

Anyone have other ideas to Reinvigorate Davis Cup before it really becomes a non-event?

Hmm, interesting idea, but i doubt it'll be easy to find 32 teams of a certain standard like the world cup. The big guns would be France, Spain, Germany, Serbia, Argentina. The format has to be tinkered with. But this is a good idea as it reduces the congestion of the tennis calendar, especially for the top players who do well in singles.

The Atp is stupidly rigid.

Yes, the Davis Cup should be an event that takes place during a certain period with all teams gathered at the tournament and so on, similar to what the WC and The Olympics are.

But they're not gonna do anything about it, just like they do with the grass-season problem.

Roddick said the same thing, and most people would probably agree, but unfortunately there aren't any ears to hear that stuff and act.
