What do you think of the TW spoiler policy?

I would like to see what percentage of posters agree with TW spoiler policy and what percentage think it should be removed. I think it is pretty pointless and should be removed. Let's face, it DOES NOT work. New users will always come on and not follow the policy ruining it for other people who are stupid enough to come to the forums hoping the spoiler policy will be followed.

If they removed the spoiler policy and replaced it with a sticky that said come to the tennis forums at your own risk, it would benefit everyone in my opinion. No one would have to worry about what they put in their title or weather or not they should have to put spoiler in the title. The people who want to watch taped matches without knowing the results would also benefit. They would be less likely to come to the forums if the TW policy was come at your own risk, and therefore would be less likely to have the match spoiled.

People who come to the forums hoping not to have a match spoiled always complain a lot when it is spoiled. This complaining could be eliminated if TW removed the spoiler policy as those posters would know that it was completely their fault for coming at their own risk and would be less likely to complain.

So if we switched the spoiler policy with a come at your own risk policy, there would certainly be many benefits with very little if any drawback. Let's see what everyone else thinks.

The law doesn't work. People still murder eachother. We should just get rid of laws and tell all the families of victims of murders that they lived in the US at their own risk.

Interesting analogy. And, I feel, relevant enough...

Rather than remove the rule, it should simply be enforced. Simply put, those who show no consideration or respect for others by putting results in their titles should be made to pay a consequence for doing so.

If they want to behave like mindless young children who have no concept of the existence of anyone but themselves, they obviously, as young children do, need to be reminded that other people do exist. And punishment has been historically proven to enlighten the majority of persons.

I like this analogy actually! It seems to make sense, although I do not think this sort of rule is nearly as important as murder.

It seems as though many responses in this thread were deleted and the poll option was taken away as well. I am puzzled.

Did someone criticise TW by any chance?

I thought there were two threads: one with the poll and one without.

Wow, you are right. I looked on the next page and found the other thread. I don't know how there were 2 threads posted, I didn't mean it.

I like you're way of thinking Steve. It should have been like that from the beginning.

Heh. I tend to agree - the spoiler policy seems pointless to me...

But then again, I never minded either spoilers or the spoiler policy in the first place, I don't mind knowing the results of a match before I watch. So if the poll was still up, I wouldn't vote anyway.

Maybe best of both worlds? A warning and more enforcement from the rules.
