He's so good that he has a generation of his own. Who else born in 1991-1995 other than Kyrgios matters?

The Lost Gen term was coined before Thiem broke out in 2016 so unfortunately players like himself and Kyrgios/Pouille don't quite fit the original term or age so well. Its hard to call Thiem Next Gen even though he broke out very close to the same time as Zverev. Thiemerev played Lyon Final right before 2016 French Open.
I've been looking for this image which was probably around 2014 US Open? No it would have Cilic maybe. It was probably 2013 US Open. Maybe 2014/2013 RG given that red clay like background?

Must be an alternate timeline..
He's part of Lost Gen: Players born 1989-97.
When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.LoneWolf Gen.
Funny thing is most of them are much lower than they were back thenMust be an alternate timeline..
He is just better. I will have to say, I give Thiem a hard time, but he might just be coming around. Really hope he continues to improve and might be a threat everywhere going forward. Except FO final of course.I do not think he "peaked later" than Dimitrov, Nishikori or Raonic, he is just younger than them.
But not long enough to produce any ATG caliber players. That is 9 years. Too much time for one generation in tennis.
What a thread full of pussyfooting, dithering, beating around the bush types who go a million sidetracks to avoid saying one thing.
Just do it — say it: "Kyrgios gen"
The Aussie was the first to have a breakout so it's his name that gets to be next to the "gen".
So if I start playing this year, in my 40s, I'll be NextGen too?Nishikori, Dimitrov and Raonic (lost gen) all started playing around 2009, with Nishikori starting the earliest. Thiem started well after that so he isn't lost gen. He's an early next gen.
So if I start playing this year, in my 40s, I'll be NextGen too?
Great logic.
It's not when you start it's when you're born.
To be more detailed, here are some key names from each “gen:”1980-1984: Fed gen
1985-1988: Nadal/Djokovic gen (I.e. golden gen)
1989-1995: Lost gen
1996-1999: Next gen
2000 and after: Baby gen
Therefore, he’s lost gen
Dimitrov is 28, Raonic is 29 and Nishikori is 30. Thiem is 26 and those players you listed are 23. So Thiem is in the middle of both groups. Personally, I would put him closer to next gen because he started playing considerably late for a tennis player. He was about 21 when he started playing on the tour full time.
Kei is 30? Time flies.
I know. I was actually surprised myself when I saw that.
Feel like Thiem doesn't belong to either group . Perhaps it's funnier to call him a #NextGenner just to rob the LostGen of their "best player".
Lol. I'm sure lost gen would like to claim him as their own to help their cause.
Mate they're going to be the first slamless gen they'd take anyone lol.
Poor guys. Well at least they have a WTF title. Could be worse.
Dimitrov (Raonic too) have done pretty well off the court so that's something at least...
Hey, that was your logic I wuz using... Argue with yerself over that, not me...Better logic than you comparing a 15+ age difference to a 3 year difference. Lol
Rubbish list.1980-1984: Fed gen
1985-1988: Nadal/Djokovic gen (I.e. golden gen)
1989-1995: Lost gen
1996-1999: Next gen
2000 and after: Baby gen
Therefore, he’s lost gen
If we go by 5-year spanning it doesn’t make much of a difference, although I wouldn’t group Nishikori in the golden gen or Kyrgios with the nextgen.Rubbish list.
Whatever criteria you decide to settle upon, you have to divide the generations equally (one generation spanning equal number of years as any another generation). That's how it's always done.
(Late) lost gen

Thiem himself has this view with his comments that young player will win slam in 2020 (he included himself )
He must be part of the growing lost generation. LolWhat I don't get is how those clowns thought Jack Sock would be top 10 from his #118 ranking
