Depends what mood he's in. I think he's naturally quite defensive/passive, but absolutely has the game to flip the switch and be aggressive when he goes into the zone/is feeling super confident.
He has mental issues, he had 2 of the greatest players in history, Fed & Nadal, advising him during the Laver Cup over his rally position, yet he blew them off and ignored their advice

I don't know that it's a case of ignoring advice. Anyone can tell you the gameplan, that part is easy. His mental issue is that he doesn't have the confidence to regularly execute it. He's not the first guy who's had that kind of problem, and he won't be the last.

Passive, (mentally) lazy baseliner. He wants to be able to win by just hitting a big serve and then rallying comfortably from well behind the baseline. That this lets him down again and again has not persuaded him otherwise. If anything, his recent results against Djokovic may well encourage him to double down on this monotonous style of playing.

If Zverev solves his mental issues then he is going to dominate tennis in coming years but that's the big IF which separates Big 3 from rest, atleast meddy seperated himself from others in terms of mental toughness but still feel he isn't the guy who can dominate tennis in times to come

he’s still figuring out his identity as both a tennis player and person, which is not what you want to see in a guy who’s 24…

His aggression is limited by his mental issues and problems at the net though. He’s not confident enough to come forward consistently.

So you end up seeing a guy who looks like ‘11 Djokovic on some points and then, like, pusher version Roddick on some other points. His FH on the move is the limiting factor here. His OTR FH isn’t the weapon that it should be.

It's the problem that Murray had. Passive defensive game is his confort zone. He has to be super confident to go on consistent offense. Can't sustain offensive game for long.

Somehow I read that as 'What kind of person is Zverev?' I was going to answer very differently.

I think he started as an aggressive baseliner, and then turned into a defensive player after he couldn't break through at the Grand Slams and his confidence shrunk as other young players started joining him in the higher ranks.

Yeah, keep on kicking the guy when he’s down. Nice!
You reap what you sow. Down? He won the Olympics and reached semis. That counts as a successful year.

At least he should not pretend how good a father he is and how fatherhood has changed him. He's not even in contact for crying out loud. I call BS when when I see it.

I still give him the benefit of doubt on abuse allegations until proven. And he's the most improved player after Med. His achievements in 2021 is phenomenal. But, I won't give him a pass if he abandons his child and then talks about fatherhood. Give me a break. To not be there for your own flesh and blood is inexcusable.

You don’t seem to be aware of the whole facts so I think your link was a low blow. His ex wanted to raise the child as a single mother and did not want him to be involved in raising it. That said, she did allow him to visit and took a sweet video of him and the baby. If you watch the video, you might realise that he’s not the monster the ABZ club would like to portray him to be.

It's unclear why the mother didn't want him to raise baby at first. And btw, it came out at the same time as the allegations against him. We don't know if the allegations are true, and we also don't know if she didn't want him around BECAUSE of the accusations.

...won't comment on his personal life.
I don't root for him, but if I were a fan, he would leave me frustrated, as I think his best game is that of an aggressive baseliner.
He has a great skillset and obviously is far above a "mug" -- he has a lot of achievements -- but these next 2-3 years can be very telling as to whether he ever becomes World#1 and wins slams.

Attacking baseliner, passive baseliner or counter puncher?
Best thread ive seen as its really hsrd and i canmot vote. He is all of the above depending on the match.
I feel he has the talent to be the most complete player ever. Now his 2nd serve and FH issues seem to be resolving which will mean he chokes less as he gets more confidet he really could himself maybe in 2023 have a shot at CYGS. The game is there. He isa fabulous player. So pleased to see him now steppig up. Been a grest year for him.

We will never be aware of whole facts. She made a public statement. I don't see Zv refuting her comments about no contact. Some people just invite trouble. From one crisis to another - from one girlfriend to another and one accuses him on abuse. I don't hear anything from Nadal's or Federer's or Novak's or anyone else's partner complaining. With him, it is always drama. Because he's a player.

She said she does not want to share custody. I don't know much about German laws but I find it hard to believe that an estranged father would not be allowed to visit his child.

What kind of player is Alex Zverev? He is a tennis player.
My dictionary tells me:

"A player – defined most simply as someone who fakes a serious degree of romantic interest while often conducting several similar relationships simultaneously – is deceptive and manipulative by nature. When one enters your life, you could be forgiven for believing that they are the answer to your prayers, which is exactly what they want. Such behaviour often disguises low self worth and an inability to form secure attachments."
