What woman wins the 2011 French Open?

Which woman wins the 2011 French Open?

With Clijsters out and Serena still not back, last year's finalist Sam Stosur not playing well, Li Na seemingly disappeared, who wins?

Obviously, Wozniacki has a huge opportunity to win her first Slam and quiet the critics.

Other than Woz, really any number of people could win it -- Azarenka, Zvonereva, Petkovic (sp?). I never thought Schiavone could repeat, but she might just have a chance. Kuznetsova can inexplicably play great when you don't expect it as much as she can inexplicably play bad when you don't expect it.

I'm not going to do a poll. Just wanted to discuss the subject. Clijsters would have had a very good shot.

I actually think Schiavone will repeat and if you asked me this last year I would have laughed at the thought.

Clijsters is not certain to be out. Personally I think she is just using this as an excuse to not play until the French since she hates clay anyway and with the state of the womens field will probably show up and win. In the IMO unlikely event she doesnt play I am going with Wozniacki, Schiaovone, or Zvonareva, with Wozniacki the most likely.

I really hope that Wozniacki wins this one. I'm expecting for there to be a woman on god-mode that takes her out early though and then loses during the next round.

I agree. If Clijsters shows up to the FO she will likely win. If not, I am going to go with Wozniacki.

out of the women with no medical issues at this point, woz has won the only clay court tournament she's entered (even though it was green clay) and she's been playing pretty well up to now, so "she's got that going for her".

someone please refresh my memory: did schiavone come from nowhere to win last year or did she play well in the tournaments leading up to the french?

here's how i see it (most likely to least likely):

woz or schiavone (toss up)

vika

jj or stosur (both are gonna need a bit of help to win)

bepa (see above)

petrokazzi (see above above)

clijsters (if she plays and she's about 85% healthy she's got a chance)

serena (the cosmos needs to align for this to happen/ i really doubt she plays here but if she does she's gonna need the biggest cake draw in the history of western civilization to compensate for what she is lacking in terms of fitness, matchplay and movement and she won't be able to hit through her opponents on this surface)

I think it's going to be Peer.

Well, each woman has a chance of winning here, so why not?

Like her alot, but let's just say that if you put money on Peer and she won you would make a bundle.

I think it's going to be Caroline this time. She is getting more aggressive when needed, has the mental toughness for clay and is winning so consistently.

For the emotional darkhorse I would go with Petkovic. Mainly because she is hot and probably the #1 personality on the WTA Tour right now!

The French Federation is desperate to have a local winner of their tournament and we have seen some glimpses of their plans already. With that in mind, I am picking Tsonga or Mahut.
