He was under house arrest for the rest of his career if I Remember . He was the beginning of the next generation
I saw Galileo's tomb and took some photos in Italy. A man of sure genius in a super repressed World.

Richard Feynman said having discovered what he had discovered was rewarding and made him happy enough, not the Nobel prize.
That's also the mindset of all the true scientists.
As for Bruno and Galileo, they were dreamers, darers, truth seekers, inspirers, pioneers, among other things I doubt most of us can ever say about ourselves.
They dreamed about an even more beautiful, meaningful world than what they were told and must believe. They dared to challenge idea of "The Earth is the centre of the universe" - a finite universe that was in the minds of those high powers who told the others what to think.
“I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.”

They dared to read the forbidden books, to think for themselves, to seed new ideas, spread it, prove it, fall in love with what they found and determine to share them with everyone, whatever the price.

And find they did - not just the wonderful world and universe as how they truly are, but also, and absolutely importantly, the foundation for mathematical and provable sciences for countless generations of future scientists, as well as the ones who like to think for themselves and see the truths, not what they are told.
More than 400 years later and here I am, feeling something in my throat writing this, just at the mere thought about them...

I would have kept thinking Maldini was part of the team before I looked at the lineups again. Can't believe he has been retired for so long. 2002! Years are just flying by.
A little relieved. I thought I was losing the plot. Maldini continued to play for Milan until 2009.

Tbh France is even more of a giant when it comes to food. They're the undisputed wine champs (Spain in second from what I've tasted and I only like red wine), and France produces more good food than any other country.
I just think Italy has higher highs, so to speak.
I like strong-flavoured recipes and I think France lets it down a little in that area.
It's very close. Nearly but not quite a tie for me.
At the same time if someone were to put France ahead I'd have no problem with that. It's close enough where it totally depends on individual taste.

One of my best friends from high school is short and he’s very self conscious about it.
Glad I don’t have to go through that, I have my own insecurities though.

I just happen to think that Parmigiano Reggiano is the best cheese. But even that's a close run affair with like four or five different French cheeses. Comte, Bleu d'Auvergne, Camembert, Beaufort, and Roquefort are all just as great.
Where I think Italy shines the most is the cured meats. Prosciutto/Parma ham, pancetta, coppa, salamis and cacciatore, soppressata, speck, the list goes on. France just can't compete here - and I love sausages.

Yes! But he must be 5,5 or something, he is short. My dad is Italian, so I have been to Italy a lot. If I wear heels I feel SO TALL over there, I also feel stronger than them, they are built so thin compared to Scandinavian men(vikings). While here in Norway most men are taller than me even if I wear 10cm heels.
Best Italy has come up with?

Years ago, I ran into Paolo Maldini in one of Paris' many Eyetalian trattorias. Literally ran into him rounding the bar from les toilettes. He is at least as tall as Federer. Somewhere between 6'1" and 6'2". Striking/flashily dressed guy, very tan, slick hair, typical pro athlete from Italia, i suppose.
Btw, this is the guy who played dubs in an atp challenger not too long ago. He and his partner were good club players, but were quickly dismantled at a decent pro level. His quote was something like, he felt like he had studied mathematics for a decade, then had to compete in a poetry competition.
Anyway, yeah, obligatory stmt about generalizing...
Indeed, northern Europeans are tall, but there are some very tall Mediterranean guys too (not just in the Balkans). And some short Nordics, too. We have that here, too. My son has a friend -- a 5'7" Dutchman. They call him Yao Ming for some reason. And his school's varsity girls basketball team has a 6'2" Asian girl who just had a quinceañera.
And I used to hit with a college player originally from Mexico. 6'6", so definitely on the tall side for Mexico.
