********** will tell you that 2020 is the strongest of all.
:oops::rolleyes::-D:laughing:

2020s is weak but it has just started, 2023 has just begun, even excluding this year we have 6 good years left.

But 1 thing we do know (or now it's confirmed) is that 2000s is the weakest decade of all time. Agassi 3rd on big titles, baby novak @ 5th ? Raises questions on Roddick and Hewitt

Hewitt before injury was very tough player, he don't had good serve because of his height but he was lion hearted, it was Roddick( apart from 2009 final) and Fat Dave who always threw the towel.
Biggest tradegy was injury of Safin, Haas and Ferrero.
And outside of blind fans everybody know that 2000s may be the weakest decade.

So according to stats 1970, 1980, 2010 are toughest
Going to go with 1970 a decade where everbody stopped each other because of different circumstances if you take this decade to 1981 us open final
Like Connnors didn't participate in AO and was made to play three straight year in clay Us Open.
Borg was phenomenal in Wimbledon and RG.
Mac was finding his feet

1980s were brutal. It’s amazing that somebody like Miloslav Mecir couldn’t ever break into the top 3 in the rankings, or that Becker never reached #1 that decade, or that Wilander only spent 20 weeks at #1. 1983 featured 9 changes at world #1 among 3 players. This decade was brutal.

Mecir is the one that really gets overlooked. That guy at 6 foot 3 moved as well as anyone I’ve seen. He also had the best backhand of his era. But that field was too deep. The 1986 USO was his best run. He beat Wilander and Becker to get to the final. But then he lost to Lendl. 1989 AO, he lost that final to Lendl. He lost the 1987 FO semi to Lendl. And finally, in 1988 at Wimbledon, he wrecked Wilander in straight sets in the QF, but then lost a tough 5-setter to Edberg, who went on to beat Becker in final.

Yannick Noah is forgotten about as well. This guy was a beast on clay. His 1983 FO was legendary; beating both Lendl and Wilander to win the title(beat Wilander in straight sets in the final).

This era was when a guy ranked outside the top 10 could do some serious damage. Look at Pat Cash at the 1987 Wimbledon tourney. The guy murdered Connors, Wilander and Lendl all in straight sets to win the title. Lendl looked set to win the title after taking out Edberg in the semis. But Cash was way too tough that tourney.

This is why the top guy only won 7 slam titles that decade. The surfaces were too diverse and the competition was too tough. This decade to me is the best one I’ve seen, although admittedly, I missed most of the 1970s.

Frustrating thing is 2000 could have been the most talented and toughest era.
Fit Safin, Guga, Ferrero, Johanson, Ancic,Hewitt, Coria,
Now if Nalbandian and Roddick kept on improving instead of giving up then alongside above unfit players you can add Nalbandian, Roddick, Agassi (till 2005), Baggy, Gonzales, Henman, Rafa, Murray, Djokovic and for last year Soderling and Delpo.
Now that could have toughest decade

I'd say the 90s were the deepest and the 80s had the most great players playing well at the same time. Both had challenging conditions with tech and surface differences and 16 seed draws.

The Tour has never been deep since the 00s and has only had a couple players playing great at the same time since the 10s. Conditions are homogenous. Neither is the toughest, but the 10s have been good at the very top. The 00s was a vacuum with just one great player across multiple surfaces. Easily the weakest of all time.
