I do love a corked wine, or do I?
Does the phrase "corked wine" mean the wine has gone bad?

Can we use that phrase to call wine that use cork as the closure? You know, like screw-capped wine vs corked wine.

Ok, got it:

Another new wine for me to try. It is on sale and it has good reviews so why not.

Domaine De Blayac

Minervois

739251-1.png

  • Type: Grenache Noir, Syrah, Carignan
  • Size750mL
  • Region: Languedoc-Roussillon
  • Standard Drinks: 8
  • Alcohol Volume13.5%
  • Country: France
  • Brand Name: Domaine De Blayac
  • Closure: Cork
  • Wine Sweetness: Dry

Domaine de Blayac, founded in 1990, is located in the heart of Cathar country. Seven generations have succeeded each other at the head of the domaine. Stéphane Blayac has been in charge of these beautiful vineyards, since 2003. Deep red garnet robe. The wine shows an intense nose of black fruits and spices with floral notes. The palate harmoniously displays aromas of vanilla, roasted coffee, red and back fruits (raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry). The finish is smooth, persistent, very silky with round tannins.

The Minervois region of warm Southern France produces some of the most concentrated red wines on the planet. Also some of the most outstanding value. This hand-made treasure a case in point - a classic marriage of Carignan (a regional treasure), Shiraz and Grenache Noir from a 7th generation family estate. As dark as the night sky, this complex slurpable wine is almost impossibly crammed full of black fruits, black olive, cured meats, ironstone and negroni-like bitterness. We dare any lover of big soft reds not to be utterly seduced. Our Value French Red Discovery of 2018 - hands down!

I quite like this Blayac wine. It's dry, taste of coffee, vanilla, spices and smooth finish. It's not sour / acidic. It's just delightful.

One of my regular tennis hitting partners is French and he likes red wine. He likes Pinot Noir, Bordeaux, Argentinean red wine and Portuguese red wine (I should try this one next!). He said Portuguese red wine are good and he likes Portuguese food too.

I told him since I started having red wine with my dinner that I feel better health wise. I told him it's good for digestive system, and he told me it's good for everything, and just be careful with bad quality wines (he especially mentioned the goon bag wine--the one in metallic plastic bag dispenser with carton box packaging).

My other French tennis friend from my tennis club is a doctor and he suggested other tennis players to have red wine with dinner which is good for relieving muscle or joint pains.

Portuguese reds have gained great favour with Australian customers in recent years. Their “honest to goodness” generosity and value has proved to be irresistible. These wines have been mainly in the commercial, high volume, low price sector. So, what happens if you kick it up a notch or two? What kind of wine do you get if you pay, say, up to $20? If it’s Coutada Velha Signature you can be sure that you are getting a wine that is not only extremely well made and enjoyable but also presents outstanding value on the world scale. A blend of aragonez (tempranillo), trincadeira and cabernet sauvignon, the smoothness and carry of the wine is immediately apparent. Flavours of ripe blackberries, fresh cherries, spice and plums build relentlessly. High class oak plays its part, also. There’s a top note of fruitiness over a “fullish” body. The whole package is very complete, complex and satisfying. A wine of this quality for the price deserves an extra point or two.

Southern Portugal Red

  1. Red
  2. Portugal
  3. Portuguese Red

Interesting Facts

  1. Over half of the world's supply of cork is grown in Portugal.
  2. With its bulk wine production, the region of Estremadura produces more wine than any other region in Portugal.
  3. The region of Estremadura is known locally as Oeste, which means West.
  4. The soil in much of Southern Portugal is alluvial, which is very fertile and perfect for getting lots of fruit.
  5. Traditional wine in the Alentejo region is aged in clay pots.
  6. A large portion of the wine in Southern Portugal is made in cooperatives that make wine for many producers at the same time.

Another new wine for me to try soon: Masseria Altemura - Sasseo - Primitivo Salento - 2018

Has anyone had this wine before? How was it? It has a lot of good reviews from vivino:

764138-1.png

Description:

Made from a strict selection of grapes - exclusively of the Primitivo variety, from unique vineyards that maintain the quality of its indigenous cultivar whilst opening itself up to international taste. The name Sasseo (meaning stony) was chosen to recall the uniqueness, sunniness and strength of the terroir that has produced this wine. Good body with a soft and warm mouth-filling flavour, supported by sweet tannins. An ideal wine to accompany roasted red meat dishes or roast lamb.

Expert review:

The 2017 vintage of this Primitivo from Puglia is as thick and rich as ever, and, perhaps, even a little more under control than usual. The fruit sweetness is a little less but the flavour intensity and density remain the same. The wine impresses with roasted root vegetable, ferrous notes, rich and ripe plum, prune, black cherry and Christmas cake flavours, all held in check without being too sweet, as mentioned. It's destined to be enjoyed with roast or grilled meat with all the trimmings and delicious pan juices. There's no shortage of flavour. Enjoy.

Masseria Altemura - Sasseo - Primitivo Salento - 2018

This wine is my favourite now! The 2018 one is just perfect. Everything is perfect. It's so fragrant and tasty. More-ish.

Lindauer Brut is made from traditional champagne grape varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The name Brut refers to a drier style of wine.

About this product

Lindauer is an amazingly consistent great value for money sparkling. The bouquet shows toasty yeast characters and the palate is full-flavoured and well balanced with a creamy steady mousse.

Light yelow with a faint brassy tint. Collar of mousse. Rich, complex, pinoty nose, smoky and meaty, red fruit aromas, complex and shows some maturity. Same in mouth: has some richness and breadth, a wine of mellowness and some developed character, with evident liqueur sweetness which is in fine balance with the flavour. Lovely drink.

New Zealand's first commercial methode traditionnelle bubbles has struck new levels of finesse this year. From mature Gisborne vineyards, with a full year on lees, this chardonnay pinot noir blend is crisp and fresh with lemon zest and peach fruit, well-gauged dosage sweetness and balanced appeal.

Light-Bodied Red Wines: 20–30 minutes. Light-bodied red wines include Pinot Noir, Gamay (aka “Beaujolais”), Zweigelt, and Schiava.

Medium-Bodied Red Wines: 30-60 minutes. A few examples include Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Merlot, Malbec, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Tempranillo.

@3loudboys said he is having a 2022 vintage, so it's a very young wine. I read that young wines need to "breathe" a bit more.
I usually air them like shaking them a bit in the same glass.

What red wine are you serving for Christmas? We usually make roast goose with stuffing and braised red cabbage. Depending on the side dishes, I’ll probably serve an Amarone or Brunello as goose needs a full-bodied red wine with some good acid to stand up to its higher fat content. Goose breast meat tastes almost like a rich roast beef. Probably will drink a lot of champagne with all the appetizers that come before the goose and the dessert after.

Usually we make mutton biryani for either lunch or dinner or Christmas Eve and typically drink white wine (Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gruner Veltliner or Champagne) or Rose (like the ones from Provence) with it. The few times I’ve opened red wine because guests wanted it, I‘ve generally matched with a softer red like Garnacha, Rhone reds (both Shiraz and Grenache blends), Valpolicella etc.

Merry Christmas - happy eating and drinking!

I'm having El Esteco Don David Malbec reserve (2022) for the first time.

̈Don David ̈ was the key man in the winery’s history. He was a pioneer in planting quality vines in the high altitude vineyards of the Calchaqui Valleys, convinced this remote and exquisite region had the potential to deliver unique wines. Produced from 100% malbec grown at 1800 metres, the wine boasts sweet and soft tannins. Dry fruits, chocolate flavors, oak, and a long and persistent bouquet with complete elegance.

I'm trying Jean-Pierre Moueix Bordeaux (2019). Before I had been hesitant to try it because the Aussies gave it such a bad review. Obviously they have a terrible taste! This wine is very smooth and elegant!

109968-1.png

Jean-Pierre Moueix Bordeaux rouge was inspired by the founder’s early mission: when Jean-Pierre Moueix launched his wine merchant business in 1937, he sought to offer eminently drinkable and enjoyable wines that reflect a sense of place.

Personally selected by Christian and Edouard Moueix, the Merlot grape offers depth and complexity, while Cabernet Franc brings structure and spice to the blend. Combined, these varietals produce wines of character and body while maintaining a unique suppleness.

The wine shows ruby red with an intense, complex nose presenting notes of cherry, strawberry and blond tobacco. The palate is powerful and inviting with smooth, silky tannins.

After trying this Bordeaux red wine for a week, I can honestly say this wine is one of the best. It's very smooth, very fragrant (reminds me a lot of Pinot Noir), very elegant. And somehow this red wine makes me feel healthier and also improves my memory!!!! I'm serious, I now remember a lot of things from the past that I thought I wouldn't remember anymore. I also dreamed a lot of details from the past, making me recollect details from the past... It's amazing.
