Just look back on 2012-2014.
That was just Djokovic getting outplayed and outclassed by his opponents fair and square. His level simply was not good enough to help him escape those losses, mental strength or not.
E.g. a USTA 5.0 player would most definitely lose to 2006 Federer even if the player is the mentally strongest person in the world.
I am siding strongly with the opinion that Djokovic's success in 2011 was largely attributed to the fact that he stormed into the tennis world out of the blue and his opponents did not know what to do, as no one had expected such a level from him. But in 2012-2013, he was playing at roughly the same level as he did in 2011, but the main difference is that by then, the entire field was very focused on beating him. And as a result, he quickly got exposed as being overrated.
Although in 2014, his overall level did undoubtedly drop compared to 2011, with the exception of Wimbledon, Paris, and the ATP Finals.
