Which season is more important European clay court or North American hard court season

Which lengthy season is more important for the players in securing points, ranking and momentum in your opinion the clay court season or North American hard court season.

Clay court seasons after Miami and ends Roland Garros

North American starts a couple of weeks after Wimbldeon with Atlanta and DC and ends with US Open.

NA HC season because they continue to play on HC till Miami.

For momentum I guess is more up for debate. Clay obviously leads right into grass, it's tough to say that momentum on one automatically will carry over to the other, while after the American swing you do keep playing on hard courts even if it shifts indoors so you should theoretically be able to maintain more.

Points wise, the described Clay Swing offers more points I believe.

Momentum wise, probably the summer Hardcourts because after Wimbledon its all hardcourt of either the outdoor or indoor variety unless you play one of the oddball clay events like Hamburg that happen after Wimbledon.

In terms of actually securing points, that depends on which of the 2 surfaces you prefer. If you are Rafa, Clay is your bread and butter. If you are someone like Wozniacki (best hardcourt specialist I can think of off the top of my head) you prefer the hardcourts.

Dunno if you can say he underperforms - he just comes up short/runs into Fed in finals there. He's still made 5 finals

Like I said I think its just that it happens to be Federer's pet masters, otherwise Nole would have won it several times. Fed is the fast HC GOAT so that's always going to be tough - 2 of the years Fed beat Nole Fed didn't drop serve or lose a set all tournament... in that sort of form no one is beating him. On the other hand Nadal faces Fed the only time there when Fed looked close to retirement in 2013 and that year Nole loses to whoever. Nole got kind of unlucky to lose 2 tiebreaks to Murray as well in his first Cincy final and then got injured in 2011

Depends on the player really doesn't it? Clay is a longer season so that give more of a chance to pace yourself and have deep runs in multiple events without getting too tired, but most players are probably better on HC.

All 4 of Rafas year end no 1s have had solid American hard court seasons!

Face it, he sucks indoors.
