Who are you feeling will win Wimbledon- both men and women

Some fellow tennis friends of mine and I were discussing this over brunch the other day. We are really stumped, almost more than any other year, for predictions.

Who do you think will win Wimbledon on both sides this year?

For men I am guessing Nadal and Djokovic even have a fairly good chance, but there are lots of doubts about both. Nadal that he has not won Wimbledon in 11 years now, his supposed injury, and his vurnerability when playing Djokovic on anything but clay for a long while now. For Djokovic a multitude of things obviously, plus the fact that he hasn't won a major since Wimbledon last year now.

I also could see Berrettini or Felix winning it perhaps. Just a gut feeling I have. Really it is wide open though.

The womens is even crazier and harder to predict. Barty won it last year, and the Wimbledon winner before that was Halep. One is retired, and one (Halep) seems basically dunzo. The year before that it was Kerber, another player who seems washed up. The fact Iga Swiatek is the betting favorite, despite having proven nothing on grass thus far, says it all. Even less idea what to call for the women than the men.

There's a 98% chance either Djokovic or Nadal wins it with a 2% chance for the remainder of the field. That's not hyperbole. Berrettini and FAA have absolutely no chance if they have to go through either Djoker or Rafa. In fact, FAA could play anyone in the final, even someone like Taylor Fritz, and he'd lose. So your gut feeling has utterly failed you this time. ;)

IIRC she won Junior Wimby at some point? Not the same of course, but she has the skills on grass.

I've said it before, but I have already bet my house and all my retirement savings on Cam Norrie. You might think I'm crazy, but you won't be laughing when he lifts the trophy

First is Djokovic, second is Nadal, third is Berrettini, then the rest.

Got no idea about the women.

The women's side is impossible to predict, that's a free-for-all, as nearly always, though this year so many players are banned that a HUGE asterisk has to be placed next to the winner, whether purists like this or not.

The men's side is asterisked as well, though less so, but made worse by Federer's and Zverev's absence which just additionally thins out the competition which is anyway feeble on grass. (Zverev is no force on grass but he is the no 2 player, like it or not, so we're missing the top two players.)

Djokovic is the clear-cut favourite. The argument that he hasn't won a slam in a year is weak because:

A) he played just two slams since then,

B) he did very well in both that he did play,

C) his form at the FO was very good (he almost went into the 5th with the best clay player),

D) he will be not only motivated but fanatical to win this and stick his middle finger to the press and his detractors (which make up a large % of all tennis fans),

E) he hadn't won a slam in two years in mid-2018 then went on to dominate,

F) he hadn't won a slam in 18 months in mid-2014 then went on to dominate,

G) he hadn't won a slam in three years in 2011 then went on to dominate,

and H) I actually believe that his recent esoteric lunacy and increasing delusion about his importance in the cosmos makes him a better player. Fanatics draw a lot of extra energy from their lunacy, something people ignore often. Just consider how more dangerous a kamikaze pilot is compared to a non-patriotic play-it-safe fighter pilot. In war there is nothing worse than facing fanatics, and the slam race is all-out war.

For men's it's Djokovic, Nadal, Teo, and everyone else

For women it's a free for all. Iga is clearly the best player in the world but when you've won like 30 matches in a row, you're eventually bound to lose one right? 40-year old Serena could shock the world by winning but it wouldn't event be that shocking lol

Sentences like this make me super sad for the Wimbledon 2018 and the fact that Djokovic never played Nadal on hards in 2017-early2018

One thing that is extrremely clear. Barty would have been the heavy favorite to defend her title at Wimbledon had she played. I don't think she would have likely stopped Swiatek at the French, but you have to wonder at some point if she will regret her decision to retire so soon.

Novak in 2017 early 2018 was injured. Not sure what Nadal beating an injured Novak would tell us aboutf their relative levels

Who will beat Nadal in this current gen? And who will beat Djokovic?

It's destined that the 2 will meet in finals.

I really don’t get the “multitude of things” regarding Djokovic, he’s obviously the clear favourite and it is way less open than most slams.

As discussed in depth in his thread for months already, Srsh is the only player who could win both men’s and women’s Wimbledon championships.
