Some fellow tennis friends of mine and I were discussing this over brunch the other day. We are really stumped, almost more than any other year, for predictions.
Who do you think will win Wimbledon on both sides this year?
For men I am guessing Nadal and Djokovic even have a fairly good chance, but there are lots of doubts about both. Nadal that he has not won Wimbledon in 11 years now, his supposed injury, and his vurnerability when playing Djokovic on anything but clay for a long while now. For Djokovic a multitude of things obviously, plus the fact that he hasn't won a major since Wimbledon last year now.
I also could see Berrettini or Felix winning it perhaps. Just a gut feeling I have. Really it is wide open though.
The womens is even crazier and harder to predict. Barty won it last year, and the Wimbledon winner before that was Halep. One is retired, and one (Halep) seems basically dunzo. The year before that it was Kerber, another player who seems washed up. The fact Iga Swiatek is the betting favorite, despite having proven nothing on grass thus far, says it all. Even less idea what to call for the women than the men.
