Bearing in mind Tsonga got a mention in this vid and is more than 10kg heavier than Wawrinka and 5cm taller.

Note I am not asking who is the better player. Just who is physically stronger.

The way Wawrinka commits to shots when he is pulled out wide is exceptional. Tsonga hammers the ball and hopes for the best, while Wawrinka hits many winners from that position. He can do this because his core is very strong. Wawrinka is also more explosive.

Tsonga wins if it's a boxing match.

Wawrinka's strength is better for tennis - which was the question, no?

Looks can be deceiving. One of the strongest people I know was 6' 10" tall, but only 180 lbs., as skinny as they come. Even thinner than John Isner.

Tsonga’s more fit overall
Wawrinka is stronger
Stan is an absolute BEAST in the last 6 years, Tsonga is clearly overweight on court in the last few years.

Stan is the strongest player on tour, possibly ever. Jo is overall more fit and athletic, but for brute strength none compare to Stan the Man

Tsonga is clearly overweight and has been for several years. People here might call Stan "fat," but they're nuts-- or blind. Tsonga hasn't been at a high level of fitness for several years:

Tsonga is big for a tennis player, but that has always been the case. Being big does not always translate to being overweight. There are not too many overweight guys in the ATP Top 50. Just ask Jack Sock.

I would back Tsonga against almost anyone on tour in a street fight.
That's totally different than who is physically stronger. I'd put 75 year old Charles Bronson over any tennis player in a street fight. We're not talking about that.

Tsonga has always been listed at 200+ right? Im sure others have noticed the trend of other top players around his height being a solid 10-15lbs less than that.

But what exactly makes you think that? I can think of quite a few stronger player- Tsonga, Nadal, Verdasco, Monfils, Khachanov, Groth...

Tsonga has the physique more typical of a strength athlete, and I'd put my money on him if it were a powerlifting contest. But these things are kind of meaningless without having actually seen them do classical strength tests, and you can't always judge books on their cover.

Not sure why people extrapolate physical strength from tennis skillsets -- there's not that much of an association. Twigs like Rublev can smack the crap out of the ball and the paragon of muscle mass, Alex Zverev, can serve 140+. Still doubt that their compound lift numbers are anything special. Tennis isn't a strength sport in any meaningful degree.

edit: Tsonga has looked less imposing in recent years admittedly and has probably shed a fair bit of muscle mass. At his peak he was thicc.
