But to be fair, he also has shots (especially returns) that are so perfect that you question how he does it.

Rafa also plays with such an intensity that it does not look easy.

I also see Thiem in this category as he always seems to be redlining it which makes it seem that the margins are almost impossible.

Med? All over the place. Very chaotic.

Have to agree Djokovic and Nadal make tennis look really difficult , because that is the kind of game they play - very physical.

However Djokovic can hit some very solid BH DTL shots with pinpoint accuracy effortlessly. The FH is more strained.

If Djokovic played like that all the time, he wouldn't have 17 GS now would he?
The normal Djokovic is arguably the best mover in the sport and has fluid,

Sometimes Nole has those days where he just plugs away at the ball and places it wherever he wants on the court:

I'd go with Thiem. Throws himself into every shot. Hits rally balls at mach speed. Wastes energy and burns out against Nadal

The point is not how many GS Novak wins.

If you take 10 random shots - say FH Cross Court, FH Inside Out, BH Cross Court, BH DTL, Overhead, volleys , etc. - How many of these appear effortless and how many are strained / physical.

No one places the ball better than Djokovic but that is not the point here.

Have to disagree. He makes playing tennis look very difficult. The way he contorts his body, defends, hits perfect depth shots, and plays overall makes tennis seem impossible to do.

But he still is anything but elegant or effortless in his strokes. You can be a tremendous player but still make tennis look laborious. Nadal and Djokovic personify that. No doubt Djoker's movement is fabulous, but he often looks awkward when moving forward. Nadal and Djokovic are sort of the anti-Fed/Mecir/Edberg's of the tennis world.

I wouldn't lump Djokovic in with Nadal - he's obviously not Fed or Mecir, but his strokes are more clean and precise than Nadal's brute-force topspin shots which are, to put it bluntly, ugly.

The way he puts spin on it, if you are a casual viewer you won't understand why his shots are so difficult. Which makes his shots look more attainable if you are a casual player.

But because of his intensity and brut nature to his style it seems like one of the hardest players to immulate.

Yep, it's easier to hammer the ball like Gonzalez or Kyrgios than to generate the ridiculous spin that Nadal and Thiem do.

Guess it also depends on your level of tennis. I always tried to play like Fed but I actually am better when I try to play like Rafa.

I tried hitting like Berdych and DelPo at one time but I just can't hit flat and keep balls in. When I go into "Rafa" mode and use crazy spin I don't miss, but I don't hit many winners.

I have a problem of wanting to hit winners all the time, so I guess I have NK syndrome.

Zverev makes hitting a second serve look downright impossible sometimes
As it is the weakest part of my game, there is nothing worse than hitting a second serve. People smile and sometimes even laugh when I miss my first serve because they know what is coming.

Can't imagine how he feels on the tour with that.

That sounds more like Shapo syndrome, NK at least has a pusher mode.

Jimmy Connors surely has to be up there. He's the definition of leaving everything on the court

Yeah, any player who's a grinder/counter-puncher who couldn't hit through their opponents would fall into this category.
Wouldn't really say that. A zoning Del Potro can hit through anyone in history but he certainly doesn't look relaxed while doing it. Same goes for guys like Thiem

Nadal. Everything he hits he is grunting like he's trying to push a 600 pound boulder.
Lol this brings me back when I once watched a friend of mine at his power-lifting competition. Dude's with arms the size of a giant rock would grunt like there was no tomorrow when lifting those weights haha

A lot of Nadal's fans fell in love, with his, gladiator, fighting, mentality style. He defo makes it look difficult what he is doing, and that is, probably why he has so many epic matches to his name, he rarely makes 5 set wins look easy. About Djoko, I think he played awfully during the WB 2019, and still won, so I'm not sure he that often makes it look, quite hard.

Now I’m certianly not one of them but I think a big reason why many Fed fans will never warm to Djokodal is because they view their play style as the anti-Fed. Well the other part is obviously the fact that they’re his two biggest rivals who are in hot pursuit of his most cherished records.

Do you think Djoke is just being dramatic when he does those fumbling acts? When you watch him practice live on courtside, his base is rock solid steady. I always think he is just trying hard to provide drama.

No, I think he tries to be very fluid and some times his body becomes too Jello. It does not happen often, and part of me thinks it had to do with his elbow. Trying to take pressure off the elbow and use his body to make the shot. Have not see it since 2018.

For baseball fans, Dominic Thiem’s strokes is tennis’ equivalent to watching Gary Scheffield swing the bat. It’s like they’re throwing their bodies in all kinds of directions to try destroying the ball with every ounce of muscle they got.

Ever seen Nadal hit IRL? It ought to be a wonder of tennis to see how much effortless power Nadal can create without looking like he's swinging for the fences.

Nadal's explosiveness has no peer, and I think that works against his actual technique, which is very "organic" and fluid.

Djokovic's technique in contrast is generally far more extreme-looking on the joints and lacks fluidity.
