Who will finally beat Federer at the USO?

Federer has won the past 5 USO in a row. The last 2 years we saw both Nole and Murray fail miserably in the final losing in straights to Fed who is a dominating force at the USO. So when will Fed finally lose at the USO? Who will beat him?

Djokovic didn´t fail miserably in the 2007 final. Don´t forget either that the final isn´t necessarily the toughest match of the tournament (Andreev was Federer´s toughest match this year) so it could be someone who isn´t a top player. Top players have a better chance but second tier players-i.e. Andreev,Tipsarevic- have been close to beating Federer in a hardcourt Slam.

Rafael Nadal.

There is nobody in the current field that can beat Federer in a grand slam final besides Rafa and I don't see Federer losing before the final.

Same as always...whoever can get through the draw efficiently, having something left for a final that could be drawn out. We know that Federer waiting at the final match is not a sure thing, so the question may be who can win the tournament rather than who can do it by beating Federer.

I don't know who (probably Murray, Tsonga if he's still playing at a good level by then) but probably 09 and if no then 10.

It'll either be Nadal (if he reaches the final, the Nadal mental block of Federer will turn on, no matter how much better Fed is on the hard courts), or Murray, who will come more ready and experienced.

Djokovic didn´t fail miserably in the 2007 final, and he will be the one who will beat Federer in USO 2009.

Im going with Murray next year to win the US OPEN.. He will have the first slam gitters out of the way and I dont think he could play MUCH WORSE than he did during that final against Roger. That was a pathetic showing of tennis from Murray of course he had to play Nadal the day before while Fed a little vacation and Murray should have won the 2nd set if it wasnt for that pathetic line no call

LOL, you've got more excuses than a suspect in court.

Two close 3 setters are what you call a whooping? Nah a whooping is what happened to Sampras in 2000 and 2001 that's a whooping. People can't really use the line call excuse anymore that's why they started give challenges. Next excuse please.

Actually the hawkeye system is flawed. If a ball is out then a player should be able to challenge it no matter when.

Murray and Djokovic are the obvious candidates at the moment.

Gulbis and Nishikori are guys I'm looking forward to having a great breakthrough. If it happens at the USO against Federer (in any round) that'll be exciting to watch.

Murray is more successful against Fed than Djoker and will continue to be IMO. Murray will surpass Djoker this year.

Djokovic only failed in the sense that he didn't convert the vital points in the first and second sets. Other than that, he didn't exactly play badly. Just like Murray, who was ROBBED of a break point this year.

I'm a Federer fan, but I cry foul at this one.

Djokovic did lose in straight sets, but they were all close and he had definite chances to take the first two, especially the first which was a ridiculous choke up 40-0 serving for the set.

Yeah,I'm a Fed fan as well but I second this.It was a tight 3 setter in which Fed played the big points much better than Djokovic. It wasn't a bad match from Djokovic by any means,he was playing well and was very close to winning 1 set but as I said the difference were the big points.

Had nothing to do with Federer just being mentally strong right? Oh wait, that's impossible.

excuses ! Murray should've challenged that one.

Even assuming Murray had won that point, Federer had a fair chance of breaking back in that set the way he was playing, so I don't see how you can say he would've gone on to win that set.

^^ agree. Djoko was praps short on experience. That told on critical points. I think he has a lot more experience now..

Oh so now it's mental strength is it? Then why didn't he win every single tournament he entered this year?

Ever heard of a illness throwing off your entire schedule? Professional tennis players are sensitive to change. Pete Sampras could not have his racquet strung by ANYONE ELSE. Heck, he could feel if they used a different paint for his stencil. You think an illness that forced Federer away from his normal training schedule wasn't going to affect his play throughout the year?

Seriously, please don't be stupid.

the challenge system is there to be used and abused. if anything it's really murray's fault.
