His biggest rivals, the number 2,3 and 4 are all leaving Madrid injured.
True, but the open secret is that nobody wants to win Madrid, if they think they have a shot at RG. The surface plays nothing like real clay and it's always a better bet to use Rome as a tune up and peak for RG. I am not saying they are not injured, but just saying that the threshold for pain tolerance might be much lower in this rather pointless Masters tournament. I think Madrid is the most pointless and useless M1000 tournament around.

Exactly this. Anyone who has played at altitude even at club level knows it is almost a different sport due to the lack of control one has comparatively when striking the ball due to the thin air with the ball liable to fly on you.
Anyone believing Sinner and Alcaraz are not going to be fit for RG are living in hope.
There may also be a bit of avoidance going on now as well, i doubt Sinner and Alcaraz will meet before RG and i am certain Nadal will not want to play either before RG.
Rafa has made it clear he has no intention to retire, but made it clear he will not play Madrid again. Speaks volumes really. Djokovic didnt even bother going.

Rublev is the favorite now, he has more experience + 1 clay Masters.
But I'd love Fritz to win it, obviously... The way he obliterated Baez was impressive.
I think whoever wins Fritz/Rublev wins the title.
Felix will probably choke if he reaches the final.

Whether anyone wants to win it or not, which kind of seems silly anyway, you are a pro tennis player, you should be looking to win, but regardless of that, they still want to leave the tournament healthy. All three are leaving in worse shape than they entered, plus they didn't win the title either.

Madrid is here to stay though, it is not going anywhere.

It didn't seem Lehecka was having any trouble with balls flying. He was smoking forehands and serves against Nadal.
