Why is kyrgios playing IPTL?

if he hates tennis like he says he does why is he traveling to asia during the holidays to play exhibitions? $$? my theory is he does like it but says & behaves how he does to take pressure off himself somehow or because he's young and thinks it's "cool" to say that?

agassi also said he didn't like tennis but i think at least he was more honest...he would regularly skip W and the AO, tank matches, and fake injuries to get out of tournaments at the beginning of his career...

so what's the deal...

He is an attention seeker. He would tattoo his lips and teeth if that gets him the whole world's attention.

At the moment, for him, tanking is the way to go to be on the headlines.

He's probably done both of the latter, but hasn't skipped a slam. He did say he had to be talked into playing Wimbledon in 2015. I would say he doesn't mind tennis, but he doesn't like the pressure (who does, it comes with the territory), or hasn't found an effective way of dealing with it. The IPTL is a fun relatively low pressure event. He once said that choosing tennis over basketball was the best decision he ever made. (go figure) Anyone who's played much tennis knows it's a roller coaster ride and some days you'll feel like throwing your racquets in the incinerator. I think you have to embrace your losses as part of the journey and not hide from them by tanking. Sometimes out there he looks tired and jaded to me.

I'm one of the few people that still thinks with help from the right people he can start enjoying it more, turn his behaviour around and reach something approaching his potential on the court. I mean his results have already been very good, he's just shot himself in the foot by being such a goose out there! I don't think having his actions no matter how unacceptable defended to the hilt by some people around him is useful. I think he needs to admit he has a problem and be accountable for positive change.

He pretty obviously does not hate tennis. No one turns pro by not being an absolute tennis fanatic.

But by saying that he generates controversy and sponsorship money.

He doesn't have to give much effort playing IPTL, while still making loads of money. It's a better deal than playing ATP matches. The more he makes during IPTL, the less he has to make by winning matches on the tour next year. So he can tank more in 2017.

Your over estimating his intelligence. Decision making isnt his strong point

I'm just sick of watching Kiki Bertens play, every time I turn on the TV, she's on. Pretty sure that she's never been on TV this much in her entire career...getting bageled by Hingis is not a good sign.

I am surprised how empty many of the ATP and WTA venues are during the year. This year's IPTL was very empty. Clearly there are not that many spectators interested in attending these events. That's too bad, I wish I had live tennis where I live; ATP, WTA, WTT or Davis/Fed Cup.

I have a similar impression only with Kirsten Flipkens. Every time I flick over to whatever channel is showing IPTL, Flipkens always seems to be on.
