Wilander: "Djokovic can win 25 Grand Slam titles"

https://www.welovetennis.fr/open-australie/wilander-djokovic-peut-gagner-25-titres-du-grand-chelem

At the end of each Grand Slam tournament, with our colleagues from L'Équipe , Mats Wilander gives us his analysis of the performances of the champions. This Monday, he therefore lingered on that of Novak Djokovic and the Swede is rather very confident about the future of the Serbian on the circuit: "In his tournament, the most impressive is the way he plays each match as if it were a final , no matter the opponent. He always stays in the present moment . I would be surprised if he did not win at least two other Grand Slams this year. In fact, I don’t see who could keep him from winningat least four other Majors, or more. I even think he can win twenty five Grand Slam titles before the end of his career . "

There. Wilander have spoken.

Hype/attention increases ratings. Ratings determines income. His sallary comes from that income.

And it is in his job description.

Wilander is such a clown, hard to say when he's being serious or joking.

To suggest that Novak will win 8 more, given he is almost 33 and barely won the finale against Thiem, is hilarious.

He'll be very lucky if he reaches 20.
I tend to put money on the exact opposite of what wilander says. I assume he is a wind up merchant.

I think Djokovic could get 22 as could Nadal. Well that was until Djokovics presser.

With Djokovic saying he wants to spend more time with his family and setting himself a sort of deadline of 2 years to break records that actually probably means he wont win any more. He clearly misses his kids which is completely normal obviously. But he also has put more pressure on himself and that will hurt him.

He referred to family in his ceremony speech on court. All suggests a guy not loving life on tour.

"I don't see who could keep him from winning"

Spoken by the guy who less than two days ago picked Thiem in 4.
I watched his interview before match. He said Thiem in 4, but added something as... I know its 70-30, or 80-20 for Novak, but... and explained, forgot what he said... He is inconsistent in his statements...

About topic, I believe its hard to say. Novak won 5 of last 7 slams, he could win again 5/7, or next 4, or he could win 0/7,who knows...
Reality is that he will be one of favorites at next slams, if his not injured... Will see...

I fully agree that Djokovic doesn't enjoy life on the tour, much less than Nadal or Federer, anyway, but the last time he said that he will dedicate himself more to family matters instead of playing tennis, he went on a tear. So, who knows...

Im not sure Nadal enjoys it. He plays a very reduced schedule and alot of it around his various business projects.

If he wins the FO this year and UsO i wonder how long he plays on for.

Federer loves it. I think tennis is everything to him. Nadal and Djokovic strike me as the types who can move on to new challenges.

Djokovic may well go on a tear. Is he playing Dubai? While an utterly garbage event if he is playing be intersting to see his demeanour there.

Let’s just see Novak get 20. That will be hard enough.

it would be pretty cool if the big 3 all finished at 20
Would be good allright, and Djokovic wins french Open twice .. so he's the only one to win them all at least twice!!!
Sweeet...

I thought Dubai was before AO ? or am I thinking of Qatar ?

Instead of listening to TTW keyboard warriors, one would rather take the opinion of Mats Wilander, who is a great champion and won slams.

He knows a thing or two about champions himself. He is saying that Djokovic will win 25 slams for a reason. Incidentally (even though I've been wrong many times) this also aligns with my views.

All logic and historical precedent would suggest that Djokovic winning 8 more at his age is absurd.

But all logic and historical precedent has been chucked out the window in recent years so, who knows!

Whats more likely
A- "no slam winner younger than 31" or B-"Djokovic winning 25 slams"

No slam winner younger than 31 sounds more absurd LOL, but its happened!!!

Borg, McEnroe and Wilander never won a slam after 25!!!
Pistol Pete had 12 @ 27!!!

Novak doesn't have an Agassi in the rest of his career. I think his elbow injury and descending motivation will eventually stop him. Strangely enough, he was talking about playing till Federer's age after winning Wimbledon. Something has changed. Maybe, he just wants to watch his kids grow more than his trophies collection grow.

I heard Nole say 2 years to break no1 record and after that all focus on Slams?
25 is definitely on the cards, especially since RAFA will get atleast 22

Well, he did win 5 out of the last 7, alright. And he did win 10 slams in the last 5 years. And all this with 2 years of Pepe induced sabbatical squeezed along the way.
So if he is motivated and healthy, he has a serious shot, no doubt it.

25 is a far fetch, aside from getting old, he could just have another inexplicable form slump/injury like W16-FO18, or a moderate form slump like he did from FO12-FO14
