Wilson sensation + Solinco Tourbite hybrid help

Hi guys,

I want to try a hybrid setup with Wilson Sensation and Solinco Tourbite.

I don't know which one to put as main and which one as cross.

Could you guys help me out?

I am experiencing some pain in my elbow since saterday.
I gave 5 hours of tennis lessons straight.

I strung my Prestiges up recently Sensation @ 60 with hand pre stretch and then Lux Adrenaline @ 62. I like a real tight string bed but as Irvin said go down 10%

I strung them Sensation (M) 24 and Singum Pro Poly Megaforce (C) 22kg.

I chose Singum Pro PM over Solinco Tour Bite because I thought the sharp edges of TB would cut trough the sensation too fast.

I will be playing with it wednesday so I keep you guys posted on how it feels.

When you give lessons, have at least 2 racquets ready with following specs:

(1) Your favorite poly combo, in your case a poly/multi hybrid. Use this to play points or matches against your student.

(2) A full bed of natural gut, multi, or synthetic gut that you find most comfortable on your arm. Use this for feeding balls. In your 5 hours of lessons, you'd probably be feeding balls for probably 80% of the time. You don't need ultra spin for this purpose, and you will not be hitting hard enough to break the strings really fast. So use the most comfortable setup for this purpose and save your arm.

I've never used Tour Bite but most people on here seem to agree that it is stiff which is not good for a sore arm.

IMO, Sensation mains with a poly cross is an excellent combo. (Ive used Signum Pro Poly Plasma and Wilson Ripspin as the crosses.) It plays very soft and dare I say "gutlike"!?!? (My normal setup is Babolat VS mains and Signum Pro Poly Plasma crosses, or the Wilson Champions Choice pre-packaged setup, and honestly the Sensation in the mains is very passable.) However, life is generally very very short as invariably the Sensation mains snap, and usually not even at a string intersection but at a location near the frame. Ive broken some in 30-45 minutes and others after a few hours. However, Ive been using Sensation 17 in a Blade 98S (which is a frame that is semi-rough on strings anyway). I am going to try Sensation 15 and see if the life is a lot longer.

If you're having arm trouble AND feeding a lot, don't use tour bite.


As an instructor, I use a 9.5 oz frame strung with syn gut at. 30lbs for feeding.

Tour Bite is pure poly. Very stiff. Try Tour Bite Soft instead. It's a co-poly and a little softer. In terms of hybrid, a multifilament with a poly will not give you much durability. You would be better off investing in natural gut as it holds up to the poly much better and in the long run the longevity of the setup will probably cost less due to less frequent restringing costs.

It is the first time ever that I am experiencing pain in my elbow so I might try all your tips (racquet with soft string for feeding etc).

Tour Bite would eat up the Sensation mains. If you want the feel of the Sensation to dominate the string bed and still want to use a poly to stiffen it up a tad, then go with a smoother poly that won't prevent snapback from occurring.

I thought about that thus I went with Signum Pro Poly Megaforce, which is smooth.

Ive tried such setups...and I agree....plays great!

But, the mains will really slide side to side with the much lower tension crosses, and, for me at least (18 x 16 pattern), the mains will snap very quickly.

Big time. I tried both and even Tour Bite Soft 16 plays much softer than Tour Bite 19. I really liked the Soft as it was notably easier on the arm.

I have played with it today and it felt more powerful then a full bed of Singum Pro PMF.
It took about 15 minutes to adjust but it played great.
Unfortunately the sensation mains broke due to damaged grommets.

I'm gonna try this again soon !

Don't use tour bite as a cross when you have a nylon, multifilament or natural gut in the mains. It will saw right through it.

If you're interested in reducing pain, put Sensation in the mains @ 56 lbs and Solinco Outlast in the crosses @ 52 lbs.

You will get less spin than a full bed of poly, but more spin than that of a full bed of Sensation. It will be more comfortable, too.
