Very little dutchmen participate in this qualies every year. It's because they want to play Ordina Open and they can get wildcards there etc.:(

are the ordina results as good as the wimby qualies to help get an invitation to the main singles?

Alex Clayton in the qualies ??? if so,,,could make a run here on grass. his game is well suited for grass courts.

Dent vs Rochus, that could be interesting. I've seen nothing of Taylor since Miami, but Olivier was in decent form at Halle.

I'm not surewhat you mean?

I thought i remembered reading (tho i cant find it again at the moment) that the rules for qualifying for wimbledon involved playing in one (or more?) grass court tournaments within the 3 (?) weeks preceding the actual wimbledon tournament, itself.

I'll see if I can find those rules again to clarify! :)

I'd love to see a pic of them at the net together, either before the match begins or at the handshake! :D

Anyway to get around this in the US?

"Wimbledon fans will be able to watch live coverage from Centre Court, No.1 Court, No.2 Court and three other courts throughout the Wimbledon fortnight with Wimbledon Live.*

*Please note Wimbledon Live will not be available in the following territories:
United States, Canada , Germany, Spain,..."

They didn't quite reach the net together. They were called to court, Dent arrived:

Then Rochus arrived:

And then the heavens opened, so they both left.

Very disappointing that they cant use media partners for everything online, as they did last year. for us in the usa, our great hope this year is espn2 ?10 hrs a day? and later espn ... coverage to begin on the 22nd.

i count 7 umpires!
i assume that means there are at least 7 matches going on side by side simultaneously. wow! i had no idea! is this how qualies always are? how difficult it must be for these players to concentrate on their own matches!

Thats a fantastic picture. At first I thought they were all sitting in the stands.

Dang! Som Dev Varman out, but Prakash Amritraj passes second round.

Fedace, i hope Alex Clayton wins the WO. I think he'll be the dark horse, considering how many times he's reached the finals, this SHOULD be his year !!!!

blew my mind too! :D
it's one of four pics from june 15 @ http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news...5078797574.html?glryid=2009-06-15/2009-06-151

the reason i noticed it in the first place was because one of my faves (lukasz kubot) is in the player in the sleeveless on the left during changeover, and this is probably the only image of him there will be in wimbledon 2009! :( ...... I had been tracking his excruciating loss 9-11 in the third on scoreboard to the japanese player changing his shirt on the right, a guy named Go Soeda.

I had been focused on kubot and soega, but when I started "zooming out," so to speak, from them, I started wondering why there was a guy measuring the net of the court on which soeda and kubot were playing, yet there was another net which seemed to be just next to it ...... and then i noticed that the umpire in the foreground was not the umpire for the kubot/soeda match ........ and then I looked up and up, seeing more and more umpires .... youre right: that's quite a picture, yet the name of the photographer is not mentioned.

Imagine what happens in 7 women's matches like these. When you are just about to serve, you hear a loud "Aaaaaoooooooooo" from the next court.

that is funny ..... the men groan and the women shriek .... i wonder if they play side by side today? what a ton of distractions!

You'll note there aren't many spectators on those courts. There's a pathway on one side of each court about wide enough for two people. Quite quiet apart from the players. Courts 13-16 have better viewing facilities and a bank of grass alongside two of those. More noise on those courts where they put the bigger names and the british players.

As far as noise making is concerned, between the spectators and women players, the latter win hands down.

Actually there are 12 courts side by side like that. The other four are up on top of the hill in a box formation.

sounds as tho youve been there ...... so. roehampton. where is that in comparison with 19SW (?), if i have that address correct? is it at the college by that name? how far is it from the wimbledon venue? just down the road a piece? i mean, that's a lot of tennis courts!

It is held at the Bank of England Sports Ground in Roehampton. I believe the post code is SW15. It is just a few miles from Wimbledon.

They also have a large cricket area. It's really nice.

The Bank of England Sports Ground is also the home of the ITF Main Offices.

Actually, I count 8 umpires.

No there are 8. Look at the very back, the 2 there almost blend.

right you both are! :)

i had to look at the image in my "preview," then enlarge it ... thanks! :D

that is quite an awesome venue, Bank of England Sports Ground. i try to imagine concentrating on a match with all that activity swirling around .... i mean, even tho spectators are scarce in that pic ... look at all those people in the shot!

AHHHHhhhh. Bank of England ... lots of real estate ... thanks for that insight, woodrow! :)

it must be a bit distracting even to officiate there, isn't it? with all the scores being called over microphones? and some of those line judges really scream out their calls (jarring even w/o mics) .... looks beautiful, but also looks as tho it could be a challenge for the umpires as well as the players, eh? :D
