Wimbledon 2013: what about early round upsets ?.

only just seen the draw and come on here (helloooo tt chatters:))

but folk have done the usual thing of projecting forward to the qf or sf to see who plays who, but we should remember upsets could happen especially on first week wimby grass, some players have no grass tourneys this year..

fed, murray have played halle: djokovic, del potro, burdych, murray, have played at 'The Boodles' for some hit n giggle: ferrer lost early doors in that Holland tourney: and nadal went fishing in his tub then practised at wimby,

a low pressure is tracking acoss uk with the centre of it across central Scotland, its unusually large for june..sat and sun are the worst days with a belt of rain then wind and showers..so the 1st week with no hot weather in sight and maybe the roof on a bit we could see some upset drama.

Djokovic Haas R4 looks legit. Federer has some nasty potential early rounds. I need to look more at the draw...

Hopefully Isner can pull off some magic this year. I'd love to see him play Wawrinka tough in the 3rd round.

Djokovic has the easy draw in the later stages, but his R1 and potential R4 match are quite hard.
Playing Mayer who made QF last year in your first match on grass is not ideal.

Nadal has an easy R1-R3. Only Isner in R4 would have a chance to beat him, but Big John will probably not even make it that far.

Murray will probably need to play Becker, Lu, Mahut and Youzhny to get to the QF. They are all good grass player, but not likely to beat Murray here.

Federer has an easy R1-R2, but a potentially hard R3 and R4 versus Rosol and Janowicz, though they both might just as well lose early.

I'd say Djokovic has the most chance of being upset early, but I don't see it happening. They're are all making the quarters this year.

I agree, what a tragedy for Federer. Hanescu, Stakhovsky, Fognini  . This is his toughest draw yet.

This will be the most epic Wimbledon ever.
Nadal will become the first player in world history to beat #3, #2, #1 in a row to win Wimbledon. Just imagine :D

Upsets can happen if the top guys have to play a serving contest and every set is decided by 1 or 2 points.Against random players, who are solid from baseline but with no big weapons,i don`t expect any surprises. To outrally a Nadal or Djokovic is impossible for a low ranked opponent but certainly playing 1-2 shot tennis anything is possible

I agree, it would be amazing. And then the rankings (after Olympics points are taken away) would be-

#1 *****
#2 RNadal
#3 AMurray
#4 DFerrer (if he makes the SF, he'd be only a hair behind AMurray)
#5 RFederer (he'd be almost 2000 points behind DFerrer  )

And that's with RNadal still not playing anything from Toronto-Australian Open.

Raonic def Ferrer, Rnd 3. Ya i know, unlikely, but if Milos rounds into form it will be in his hands.

Hewitt def Wawrinka, Rnd 3.

Gulbis def Tsonga, Rnd 2.

Interesting thread. I am particularly interested in Rafa's draw and who could maybe do a "Rosol" this year. First round he has Steve Darcis who is not a big hitter and not likely to trouble him. He could come up against Kubot in round 2 who is a bigger hitter, but probably still doesn't move well enough to really trouble him. Then Benoit Paire in round 3 who is a nice shotmaker but again doesn't have the movement to stay with him IMO. After that we are into round 4 and maybe Isner or Wawrinka, again neither of which I can see beating him on grass. After that it's Fed then Murray if all goes to seed.

I don't see anyone dangerous in Nadal's early rounds unfortunately. And that's saying something, since many players could potentially beat him in the 1st few rounds.

Kubot has a big game when it is all functioning. Possibility there.

I am hoping to go and see him on the second Monday so really want Rafa through to rd 4 at least, where he would be seeded to meet Wawrinka or Isner.

I predict one of Isner / Wawa losing early OR both of them playing a 4 hour 5 setter and then having nothing left in the tank when they meet Nadal.

Talking of upsets, Berd could lose early. He is only motivated if he is in Fed's quarter :D

I agree, Darcis won't trouble him but there is an outside chance of Kubot doing something.

Kubot is one of the mentally weakest players of all time. The amount of times he's blown mp's, two set leads is ridiculous. I agree though, his game is good when it works. One point away from playing Murray @W'11

that could cause problems, he has to realise there is nothing to lose and therefore no reason to be nervous.

That's like saying Nadal will win RG. Hardly a prediction really! :)

Kubot beats Nadal, Rosol beats Federer, Benjamin Becker knocks out "The Scot" Murray in the 1st Round, Klizan beats Berdych in the 1st Round, Hewitt reaches the final actually hallucinating that he is anything over a mediocre player and loses 6-0 6-0 6-0 to Djoker.

Now that would be a thing to see

For the top 4? No chance.

I'm actually amazed. The top 4 (five if you include Ferrer) have absolutely no competition in the first 3 rounds whatsoever. All of them are going to reach the second week easily.

the weather for the week ahead after a showery windy sat/sun is..

low humidity sunny weather around 18c 64f maximum at start of week so evening play could be colder, should be ok in sun IF not much wind,

lower bouncing shots, skidding through green grass, low humidity atmos probably..soooo >>> Lets play.

Mmm.

Meanwhile, victory for these guys:

He should make it to then but he is vunerable in the first week.

Hewitt will turn back the years and give Wawrinka a masterclass on Grass.

What a day.
