Please vote for the mens coach that you think most needs to have a good season to keep his job this year. The poll will stay open through the end of 2014.

Looking through the records of some the coaches listed above I would say Kinneally, Dougherty and Hegarty would be at the top of list mainly because of how far their programs have fallen on their watch. All 3 programs were top 30 at a point in each of their tenures and now neither of the 3 can sniff a ranking that is anything close to that. If I was their supervisor that would be the criteria I would use to judge them off of. If you were so good during year "X", what the heck happened?

Dougherty took over for Daryl Greenan who had done really well there but now is struggling at Miss St. She was good with his players.

Miss St. team now is really not bad. They have had some pretty decent wins and good top players but not enough depth to compete in the SEC and he doesn't schedule very smart nonconference. I actually think the MSU team wouldn't be bad in the Big Ten. He's just in over his head in the SEC, where if you don't have 6 that can play ball you are in trouble.

I am torn with Loring at Indiana, on one hand he deserves to play out his last years before retirement yet on the other he still coaches like its the 80s. IU has a really weak AD so he should be safe so no vote from me.

No way Loring gets the pink slip. I put him on there by popular demand but realistically Indiana doesn't care about womens tennis enough to make a change when he's so close to retirement.

I know this is more of a men's forum than a women's. But I believe the question I am about to ask refers to both men's and women's tennis.
Obviously from my screenname, one can tell that I'm a big SEC fan. Two of the coaches listed above, Michael Hegarty of Arkansas, and Darryl Greenan of Miss. State, are apparently on the hot seat. In evaluating their schedules, I see that both have put together schedules that are very, very weak. Double headers with SWAC and other weak programs are common. Mississippi State should move to the SWAC as their schedule includes 4 SWAC schools. Obviously they are building wins, but is this the right way to build a program. Are AD's not alert to this. What kind of players would want to come to these schools and play these kinds of teams. Soon they will have to play SEC schools. How does such a schedule prepare there team for that? I'm sure there's men's teams that are basically doing the same thing. What are your thoughts about this?

Most AD's don't care about women's tennis. Just don't violate rules or do anything outrageously stupid and you won't get fire. Plus, it's much harder to fire females. Arkansas coach has Elite 8/SW16 finishes, so I wouldn't come close to putting him in the above grouping. Wisconsin lost to Marquette and Drake. I don't see how that is humanly possibly. Colorado is similar to Miami men. Program is going nowhere, but nobody cares. If they were going to be fired, it would have been ages ago. Wake was a joke from the get go. But, again, nobody really cares. Most, if not all, should be ok.

I care. Maybe I shouldn't.

Samara at Wisconsin has just been there for 1 full season. They will give her at least 3 more years. Wisconsin has gotten worse since she came though...

Wyshner might of saved himself by taking out LSU

Sophomore class at Wake Forest was the #8 recruiting class in the country by TRN - one of whom is Kimmy Guerin who just beat the #29 player in the country in the win over LSU.

Plus incoming class for fall 2015 was ranked #7 recruiting class in the country a couple weeks ago.

Three sophomores and three juniors in the current starting singles line-up as well.

As Pete Carroll says, "Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program so you can't put anything above that."

Last year, Wake won as many matches as they did in the three previous years combined (12). Improving team...ways to go yet to get back to the top 25...but definite progress as evidenced by win over LSU on Friday.

Wake coach is 24-66 in 4yrs with 5 ACC wins over the other cellar dwellers. I wouldn't martyr him quite yet. I suppose progress is not measured in leaps and bounds there, but in small steps...unless you are say, the men's coach. On the bright side, he probably has a higher IQ than 99%-100% of the people in the women's profession!

Tenniswish = Jeff Wyshner, and coach, you might want to get a better role model than Pete Carroll, things did not turn out great for him at USC.

Definitely surprising to hear about Moreno. I know he was a finalist at Pepperdine. There must have been some major violations in play.

Might want to put integrity above recruiting. HAHA. I get what he's saying. Would be interesting to have a DI coach post here regularly even if we did not know who it was. Hope he'll stick around or if he's uncomfortable come up with a less identifiable alias.

The team does seem to be steadily improving, with even more good recruits signed. Here is their record for the last four seasons:

2012: 3-18
2013: 3-19
2014: 12-13
2015: 8-2

You are missing '10-'11, where he was 6-16. This is year 5. He has 8 fulls...at Wake...dude. Roddick made the NCAA finals in year 5. Progress? Maybe abysmal to pretty bad. Win a match of significance in the ACC and we can talk. Beat BC or Va Tech once every two years is awful. It's Wake Forest, not UNC Greensboro.

You guys are being pretty tough on the Wyshster. Let's be real, it probably sucks to come on here and see your name on top of the hotseat list. I didn't really think about coaches coming on here and seeing that and I feel little bit bad now. Silver Lining is that none of these coaches are really in danger unless they schtoop a player or get arrested.

Agreed. But, don't you think that it comes with the territory? College and professional coaches are constantly criticized around the clock on national television and radio. Nobody is criticizing these people for their character or integrity (although there are PLENTY of arrogant clg tennis coaches that could be criticized for that lol). Their lack of performance at institutions which should seemingly be able to do MUCH better is the issue. The philosophical question that gets raised though is that you are supposed to be mentoring students and results should be secondary in a non-revenue sport. But, people like to maintain the facade that the public cares about college tennis and it's important. Especially women's tennis...which outside the top 25 is about as fun as watching paint dry imho.

Regardless, I think being on this list might motivate me try harder to perform better hah.

Wake Forest women (#11 seed in ACC tournament) lose to NC State (#14 seed) 4-2.
Only team worse then NC State in the ACC was Pitt.

You would think that would clinch it for him... 14-13 and another year outside the top 75

He does have a few things going for him: 1) He will only lose two players to graduation, and both played near the bottom of the lineup or not at all (though I think not playing Karen Forman more was a mistake, as she seemed to be a winner); 2) He has two blue chip and one five star recruit coming in next year; and 3) his record has been steadily improving (though it has only gone from horrible to bad).

I see Indiana Coach Loring listed in the poll. Did the Hoosiers overachieve this year or finally come of age? They are #5 seed in BIG tourney.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am new to following college tennis and trying to gain more of an understanding of the politics and expectations.

He will just be replacing blue chip girls with younger blue chips. If you can't get ranked top 75 with the talent he has then there is a major problem

Indiana met expectation I would say. Beating Penn State in conf would probably make this a very good season, let's see what happens. To have Coach Loring on this list does not make sense. These two coaches (assistant coach is key too) are not going anywhere nor should they. They are fixtures and do an outstanding job to look after the team on and also of the court. The only worry I would have is that there will be a lot of turnover in the lineup next season and it does not appear that any of the recruit can cover position 1-3 successfully. Teams like Illinois have less turnover and a better class coming in.
