Would you people recommend (ever played) Tennis Elbow PC game?

Resting up after an arduous catch up with Uni work, month off, playing Tennis at my local club and just lusting to play a Tennis game also. It's 18 pounds on Steam and I'm considering it, should I?

I played a limited version many times and absolutely enjoyed it. Never had an account to buy online so I can't say much about the full version and all the possible patches that can be added, but from that video and many others it looks even more realistic than the ones I played. I'd say go for it.

@Krish872007 can tell you more.

I've been searching for a PC tennis game for quite a while. Tennis Elbow seems to be the only decent game that I've found.

It's awesome. The best tennis game out there. Used to play top spin but since getting this and playing it for a while it's definitely better. Would say it's worth it. New one coming out next year as mentioned, but if you fancy playing a tennis game within the next 8 months or however long before tennis elbow 4 comes out then I'd get it. Loads of good mods for it too with photo courts and what not.

as far as PC tennis games, this is probably the only decent choice.

as far as replacing a good console game, in my case Top Spin 3, i found it lacking somewhat.

graphics are fine, my main issue is the movement in the game. the players seem like they slide across the ground, instead of actually moving. may not be a big issue for most, but for me it was pretty much a deal breaker. and i'll just point out, that i brought a PC specific controller instead of using the keyboard and it still didn't feel right.

the playing dynamics and ball striking is half way decent. it is challenging, which i don't have a problem with. Top Spin 3 was considered very challenging and less 'arcadey', but i eventually mastered it to the point of reaching #1 in the most competitive online community for Top Spin 3 which had hundreds, if not thousands, of online competitors from around the world.

Top Spin 3 was so good, Top Spin 4 such a disappointment, that i looked for alternatives. Tennis Elbow wasn't quite there, but its definitely a decent PC tennis game.

if any console/steam-player/streaming console/PC or Mac title comes out with a really great tennis game, i will probably buy it just for that even though i don't have nearly as much time to play anymore.

Looks as horrible as ever.

I do agree with the post above regarding Top Spin 3 and 4. We might have played some time because I was online more back then.

Much easier to cheese out the game on Top Spin 4. Luckily enough, somebody invited me a to a Top Spin group and they have certain rules to try and tone down the cheesiness of it. You can only make your custom player a certain level.

Do these 2k guys actually try out the game? Can't they build a 100 power player and just see how that ruins the game? Blows my mind.

Anyway, back to Tennis Elbow. Only reason I haven't tried is because I'm still Mr anti pc games. I will only play point and click on my pc.

Doesn't look as horrible as I thought. Still love Top Spin, but I'm willing to give this a chance.

I finally went for it and installed some mods. I'm impressed and I've only started looking at it. Just the many different stances you can use for serve return and so on. Must have botched the mod installation some how because my training opponent is just a shadow.

Anyway, I'm totally useless at the minute. Keyboard and mouse is pretty impossible, but I am getting a controller soon. If any of you are playing online, you can beat me up some time.

I can't get Top Spin out of my mind when I play this. Was reading a thread and the developer was saying how you have to put the time in for the learning curve. That is fine, but I still have not hit one winner. Yes, worst player ever. Not even sure if this ps3 controller is truly compatible, but maybe I'm just trying to think of an excuse as to why I can't hit a winner.

How far do you have to aim, etc?

Can somebody explain in idiot terms how to play this game?

I need a tutorial. Dumb ass over here. A shame too because it looks great, playing at Wimbledon with the scoreboards, white kits and whatever else. Still, I managed 4 games against Wawrinka with Djokovic on the easiest level. I guess my 1 ace counts as a winner, but every other point I won was due to an error/ue. Not even exaggerating. Every shot minus 1 or 2 lucky shots, they go right down the centre even if I'm aiming to the corners.

Like I said at the beginning. Find myself thinking of Top Spin too much. I need that shock treatment that makes me forget that I ever played Top Spin.

More time? Will more time be the answer?

Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated. :)

So I finally hit my first winner, in a warm up vs Berdych! I was using Del Po. They really have Berdych spot on. Just how he unleashes those winners and how he plays. Felt like the most life like opponent yet.

Sorta getting the hang of when to strike the ball and how to aim, but not close to being in charge of the situation. Most of the time my shots are going into the crowd. Still, that first winner gives me something to build on.

Lol, I bought it in the end and currently I'm in the middle of a career with Gulbis and that forehand :).

There's a flat shot, a topspin shot or a slice, use the topspin in rallies unless you have a player who has great stamina and consistency then you can just hit flat shots all the time. Direct the shots with the keyboard arrows, a lob is the slice button with the down key, right or left to place the shot, drop shot is the slice with the up key. For beginners I'd recommend to turn off the stamina bar.

Have a look at this forum - http://www.managames.com/Forum/forum29.php?sid=cd729d8ce2ffd83d559a78e906ecb864 for tips and stuff.

Cheers. I don't know how you do it with the keyboard. I got my ps3 controller hooked up to the pc. Definitely made a little improvement today, although still hard to get the hang of it in between top spin sessions.

Started a career with Agassi and got 5 winners in 1 set. Who's the man? Yeah, it is all about the timing. Holding onto the button after you hit the shot, it just wont sink in. Crazy, but I'm happy I hit some winners today.

I loled. Last 16 of the Australian Open is Agassi vs Gilbert. It is going to be a beautiful beating for the coach. I'm increasing the level as I move through the rounds. Currently playing club with 5 sub.

@JRAJ1988 do you play with that danger zone thing on? I turned it off. Found it too distracting.

One last noob question. Which button combination do you use to run?

I'm so hyped for the next one and I'm only just on the bandwagon. Amazing how things change. Now when I play Top Spin, I'm pretty disgusted with it. haha But I am not going to give up on it. Still have friends to play.

I like some of the ideas. Challenge system and junior tour sounds awesome. I can remember a sort of challenge system for a davis cup game on the mega drive. Yes, that was not yesterday. Also, playing in the 70s and 80s, being able to use Borg, etc. I want it now.

Also noticed there will be a new tennis elbow manager game out before that.

TE is a brilliant game. Surprisingly smooth and realistic if you install the right mod as well.

Sam's megapatch is pretty good, as is ITST 1.17

I had trouble installing Sam megapatch. His instructions were just not crystal clear enough for an idiot like me. It is weird because half the stuff you play today can be modded or whatever and I usually have no trouble.

Saying that, the Maxou patch is pretty damn good so I don't think I'm losing out on too much.

And lol at Leif Shiras knocking me out of Memphis. This was after Brad Gilbert gave me an ugly beating.

The image is everything era. I'm more concerned about looking through the 1300+ t shirt designs that are all so similar, but still different. I have this perfect blond mullet flowing as well. Need to just settle on one costume and then concentrate on taking over the tour. No way would I be ready for Becker, Edberg. Courier, Sampras and co, if I'm losing to Leif Shiras.

.

I use A for normal shot D for slice and S for power myself. I have a controller but if I use controller I go back to the top spin style of lining up shots. Obviously I'd get used to it with time but keyboard is fine so I haven't bothered.

I recommend using the danger zone stuff until you get used to it then turn it off. Then you can see how the shots line up and get a feel for hitting winners.

I do use that danger zone thing so I can position myself with the ball, when attempting master mode I needed that zone thing :), I used left and right on the keyboard to run, Gulbis on career mode though has about 70 speed and 70 stamina so I have to go for more flat shots to finish off the point. A player like Karlovic has such a slow speed and stamina but he's got a big serve and goes straight to the net.

Master mode lol. The very thought of that is making me shiver. Much 2 shot rallies in store. It was funny, I loaded the Wimbledon profile and it must be the rating the mod maker plays on. Wow, sheer brutality with power and precision. I was destroyed. No enjoyment or learning gained by getting punished like that. Felt like Sgt Slaughter's boot-camp.

The default danger zone still puts me off. I see that you can mod it, but I'm going without it at the minute. Might put it back on as I increase the difficulty level.

I'm feeling more comfortable with the game now. Not trying to go for winners every return, etc.

Incredible 5 is where all the fun is. I remember playing out a 6-hour epic against Djok in an AO Final in my best TE days. Endless rallies.

I'm going to change how many sets once I make it through to the semi/final of a GS, or maybe if I get a big match in an early round.

2 sets for other semis or finals, I'm thinking. Have to make a semi first. I'm now into the quarter final of Dubai.

A good part of those were volleys and smashes, you can see a crazy number of net approaches. You can dictate but almost never finish a point from baseline exchanges when it's Incredible 5+.

I had an interesting encounter on the grass - funnily enough with far less net approaches. Most of it was probably down to executing good passing shots I guess.
Unfortunately lost to Bendych in the next round :D

I'm scared to go to the net lol.

Thinking of starting a career with Pete or Edberg. Then I will have to force myself to come to the net. Slam dunk those fools.

Another small update. I was tempted to give Henmania another go, Jack. Take him a few steps further and win a Wimbledon semi final.

But I went with Pete. Love his serve. No better feeling than getting an ace with the very first serve of the match. Although I only managed another 2 after that. First opponent in Brisbane was Wally Masur. Losing more points at the net than winning, even smashed it straight back to him and then he passed me. Once again, I'm starting to get used to it. So temping to approach the net with every point, but I shall find the balance. Or give up and go back to baseline powerhouse. We shall see.

Nail biter in Rotterdam. Saved match point with ace, even if Noah got more than me. Quarter final against Goran Ivanisevic tomorrow. Think I will make this a 3 set match. Club 8 now.

Always a delight seeing that 1st serve percentage so high. Should be able to get more than 2 aces per set with Pete though, I don't remember any better server in the game than him. Getting better at the net I see.

Same average speed for 1st and 2nd serve? You are copying Pete really well. :D

haha yeah. I was just blasting it first and second serve. Trying to be the hero. His serve is pretty amazing. I managed 11 aces with him in another match again Korda, but I just had trouble playing with him. Must be his lack of speed and even though you can increase it as you go on, I feel more comfortable on the baseline. Not scared to come to the net now and like most things in this game, much better than Top Spin 4. You should see me at the net on that game.

So I resorted to the ultimate cheese. I'm using Rafa now. Made it to the semi of Australia and lost to Hewitt. He has turned into my first real rival. Pushed him hard on a 250 clay, but also lost there. I got my backhand stats upgraded a bit so hopefully I can take him next time. Not bad for a 15 year old in 2002.

Hats off to the mod maker. Can notice the bald patch on Rafa and his arse sticks out. Honestly, I have trouble keeping my eyes off it when I'm serving. I ended up changing his hair because he is 15. :p Up to junior 6 now.

You can use both shot buttons to make serve faster, just like other strokes. Probably knew that already but average 1st serve speed of 172 is a bit low for Pete's standards so I am just reminding the speed can go even higher and it will have to go higher if you want to win easy points against harder opponents.

That's a really good start with Rafa, sounds like you will have a lot of success. Playing best of one set? I found Nadal hard to control without lowering his topspin attribute. The higher that one is the slower your groundstrokes are and the winners are more difficult to hit.

Yes, cheers. I studied the Tennis Elbow instructions again.

I'm doing 1 set for most of the matches. Moved it up to 3 for that Aussie semi final and hopefully I get to play best of 5 if I make a GS final. You're spot on about the top spin, but I'm causing errors so it is not too bad. I like how you can save during the match. Some matches starting off with 30 shot rally and 20 minutes later I'm at 2-2. Not possible to complete in 1 session.

It's not vastly different tbh - the full version will expose you to a variety of game styles and surfaces on the tour but the basics won't change. Amazing that you're already playing on Incredible 6

Decided to give one season in career mode a go in a full and a little messed up version a few days ago. Playing 2011 season with Novak, Incredible 7. Same formats as in real life, BO5 at Slams and BO3 everywhere else. Just won AO on rebound ace or as they call it classic synthetic. A little easier draw with Llodra and Isner (who knocked out Nadal and Tsonga) as my QF and SF opponents but I was pushed by Federer in the final who was a set and a break up.

Also, man they made Simon perfectly. Returns everything, doesn't miss, frustrates and forces unforced errors. :D Still overall an enjoyable 4 set match with him in the 3rd round.

Oh it's not that amazing, been playing the demo version for a while. Also have some of the top character sheets, like Fed, Delpo, Nadal, Djoko, Murray, Sampras, Agassi, Mac, Lendl, etc. I usually play as Fed against Delpo, he's the toughest. Oh but must point out on incredible 6 I do take away the power of delpo's serve so as to emphasize game play rather than continuous aces.

Becoming a Kokk measuring contest in here and I'm impotent by the sounds of things. Picking up and playing at incredible 6 from the beginning, well sort of. Amazing.

Meanwhile, Mr. Impotent over here can't even beat Mariano PEDuerta on Junior 6. On Clay!!!!

And no, I really can raise the flag, but damn. I can't ever see myself improving enough to play on Pro, never mind Master and Incredible.

I salute you all. And I'm very jealous. :p

Roddick is pathetic. I left him Roddicked in the middle of nowhere. Maybe I can beat him on super duper incredible 100. Return his serve and the match is mine. I did laugh because he won a point and started doing the Rafa celebration. He aint the only one that does it. Also, Del Po has a female grunt. Guess it is impossible to do every single thing when you're modding.

Small update on my game. Think I'm settling in with Nadal.

Lost 6-1 to Kafelnikov in round 2 of Queens and now I'm in the Wimbledon semi. Against Hewitt! I'm currently 0-3 against him, but they have all been 1 set matches. Time to play my first 5 set match, even if it will probably only go 3. The draw has been pretty kind to me.

Is the next installment of Tennis Elbow coming out soon?

I've been looking at the site and the updates for the new game. Seems to be always pushed back. It says 2017, but I'm not convinced. Just going by the posting history of the creator. Life gets in the way, etc.

Tennis Elbow Manager 2 beta is supposed to be out next month. About 3 weeks ago I would have been more happy to hear that news because I was still anti Tennis Elbow. Now I don't really care about the new manager game. I just want the next Tennis Elbow.

My journey with Rafa has ended. Add me to the list of people that can't get him working. This will be my last restart. Yeah right. Using Roger. I was put off before because I found him so useless on Top Spin 4.

10579.jpg

I looked at the time after I was into the third set of Federer vs Ivanisevic in the Australian Open. I made this five sets because last time he came to the net every point and I couldn't let him steal a 1 set win here. Anyway, turns out it is a different time frame and Goran is declined. Had about 6 baseline winners in the match and wasn't coming to the net as much.

I looked at the clock and it was 22 minutes at the start of set 3 lol. Yeah, after taking about half an hour to complete 4 games with Nadal, I'm into the third set in less time. I did win the first set 6-0. Neterer was on fire for the first two sets. Won in 4 in 47 minutes.

Time to move up to junior 8. Turning pro soon hopefully. After my complaints earlier, I just realized I needed some sexi Federer love.

But what really helped was switching to the d-pad. First time in years that I've used this caveman device. Unreal. It feels so uncomfortable now and this is what I grew up with. I was hitting too many shots I didn't mean to hit and it was always costing me at crucial moments. I noticed the difference immediately when I changed. Not hitting accidental drop shots or lobs, etc. Even managed a couple of aces. when you press left the ball is not going to go right or up so that is cool. Helped a lot. Definitely will take time to get used to it again. Mind blowing, quite frankly.

What controls do people use out of interest? Started on simulation controls but now on elite, definitely the best way to do it.

I just bought myself a Christmas present. Want to guess what it is? No need because I will tell you. A Super Nintendo controller. That's right. This pc controller that I'm using is too big to be able to get to grips with the d-pad. So I'm going old school.
