WTA totally sucks

Just wanted to know your thoughts on that, since they get paid the same as men. I know it has been discussed before though. I´m just watching some WTA matches this FO, since i don´t normally follow the WTA tour. Those are my conclusions:

- They make double faults on important moments a lot more than men.
- No crazy running passing shots.
-Even top players such as Serena can hit terrible forehands from the middle of the court to the wall!
- No much variety: i can hardly ever see drop shots or good slice backhands.
-Never serve and volley, not even for the surprise.
- Almost imposible to see crazy points,i mean for instance drop shots, then a lob, then between the legs...
- Less emotional than mens tennis. People such as Djokovic, Stepanek or Tonga are really charismatic. Women are more dull.

I´m not saying they can´t play tennis or something. I play tennis locally a lot and of course any of them would thrash me easily, just saying they look way too boring on tv. Maybe I´m just witnessing a poor French Open, i don´t know. If any of you follow the WTA tour more, i´d like to hear your thoughts. To my mind, bring back Graff, old Henin ...

Your problem is that you compare women with men. If you want to see all the stuff you listed, WTA isn't worth watching. I only watch women matches when my favs are playing. Even then it's stressful experience. When it comes to men, I enjoy even lower ranked players (Gabashvili vs Melzer was an amazing match for example)

likes this. I'm with you dude I was just telling someone that I'm not sexist at all.. the women's level of tennis is just not as high as the men's.. so why would you want to watch it?

I have to agree...i like watching men's tennis more too....not to degrade how the women are playing b/c i am voting for Serena to pull through to the finals!

Some possible reasons:
- women's tennis also has interesting (comeback) stories (see Stosur on this page).
- you often have to pay extra to watch ATP matches. Eurosport for example has broadcasted women's tennis extensively in the last ten years.
- some countries don't have good male players, but only good females.
- it's easier to identify with players that are closer to your own level.
- you get ridiculed on tennis forums.
etc...

Here's the final solution that'll save the WTA: more technology!

Introduce a shriek-o-meter that will be triggerd if the player raises her voice beyond a certain decibel.

Take a look at the Rezai/Petrova match to watch very (VERY) good WTA tennis.

No a lot of net points, but it is the same with men (alas...)

I agree. The WTA, for me, is like watching 12 year olds play. They have some great strokes but a bird can land on a chair and their whole game goes out the window.

Same with Florence Griffith-Joyner for me.
Hundreds of men were faster than her. The media made a lot of fuss about her, though.
