hello
just bought my first dr98 from my local second-hand market
im thinking to change a leather grip for it, anyone here tried dr98 with a leather grip?
please share your thoughts, many thanks!

I have a leather grip on mine and I've also added weight in the head to improve stability and performance on off-centre shots. Excellent results.

why the **** are you customizing this perfect stock racquet???

btw I bought a ultra rare blue version of DR 100L and i now own 2 of them. one is lime and one is blue - exactly the same balance - matched and same weight. i play them stock and have no issues at all.stability is also there - i cant believe how stable this racquet is. for this weight....
i think i will never sell them not even for 500€ and they will be always in the bag :) together with my wilson six.one 95s.

If that "eloquent" and well-worded question is addressed to me... I guess the answer is because we are not all the same, I can, and obviously... to annoy you.

no offense man - this is my way of talking. haha :D
i just cant understand. because even the LIGHT version feels great in stock form.
I get it, the Ezone is almost perfect as it is, great control with power, nice spin and plow, but for me lacks a tiny weenie bit of stability and if I can get it with some customization I think it's worth a try.

I've managed to get a new DR98 for Demo. Currently use a HSGTP strung in a hybrid combo of Xcel and Rpm blast. Rpm in the mains at 53lbs and Xcel at 55lbs in the crosses. Any recommendations on a string set up for the DR98, I was initially thinking a full bed of a poly at around 48lbs.

I suggest 46-48 pounds medium stiffness poly or hybrid

Could someone to put me out of my misery, pleasssse….

4 3/8 has always been my grip size of preference, but since playing with Yonex racquets for the past few years (Ai 98, Tour F 93, Tour G 97, Duel G 97, Vcore 98), I have been buying the 4 ¼ grip size as I found the Yonex grip to run bigger than what’s stated.

I just picked up a 2nd hand DR 98 4 3/8 last week, and to my surprise, the 4 3/8 is exactly 4 3/8!

I’m just wondering if the DR 98’s grip is true to its size, or does it run a bit bigger? It would be grateful if someone could share some thoughts so that I can embark on my quest to search for a spare DR 98 :)

Thanking you all.

PS I love the DR 98!

They run a little biger to size, if you are ok with the thin yonex grip then its OK by adding an overgrip but if you want to replace it with thicker lets say 1.75+mm then its a problem, for example with Prince rackets i always replace with 1.75 or 1.9mm grip plus overgrip but with dr98 i Play with stock yonex thin grip plus overgrip

Thanks for this. I normally replace the Yonex grip to Harmony Leather to try and stay true to the size. You're right, I think I'll play safe and search for a 4 1/4 DR98. Cheers!

I´m playing with a DR98 and love all about it except is muted feel. I would prefer that it ha a more lively touch, but to be honest using Luxilon Soft might not be the best option.
Any recommendations for a string that gives a bit more of "life" to it?
Thanks

Late entry to the club here. I was lucky to acquire 2 used DR 98 plus in great condition in December. One is strung with Origin/Poly hybrid, other with gut/poly.
Over my PK 7G (with gut/poly) DR gives better control (sacrificing bit of power) and better feel. I am still keeping my PK 7G as backup but DR98+ is main choice right now.

Power: 7G > DR98+
Control: DR98+ > 7G
Spin: about same
Serves: DR98+ >> 7G
Ground Strokes: about same
Feel: DR98+ >> 7G
Volleys: 7G > DR98+

When I demoed DR98+ back in March (TW demo was strung with full bed of multi) I preferred PK7G over DR. But with Gut/poly I definitely prefer DR98+.

Hi guys! Currently playing with DR 98+ in 3/8 grip. Unfortunately I cant get another one in my country to have a backup. Yesterday I saw a DR 98+ for sale but the grip was 1/4. Is there much of a difference between grip sizes? Because I wanted to keep my 2 racket as equal as possible

Anyone played with the 98 plus using volk cyclone 17? Just want to hear some feedback. Loving the frame so far, my first ever extended frame. Been reading that majority don't like the update, but I've tried the DR before committing to the ezone because to me it has better stability feeling, the DR felt flexy floppy, I usually play with frames that are 21mm or less, but I've realized I have to let go of my high school years so I made the switch from the Vcore pro 97 330. Currently have one with Yonex Poly tour spin 1.25 and the other with Signum pro yellow jacket, both at 50/48. Thinking of stringing the cyclone at 46/44

Volk cyclone 17 @ 52lbs is my setup on dr98! Simply the best string for dr98, crisp and has great playability, holds tension well. Also, great value for money. Also, my second fav on dr98 is ALU power.

I abandoned my DR 98's for a day and bought the 93p cause i wanted a slightly heavier racket and hated it. Not a fan of 18x20's

Now im back! I added 4g of lead at 12 o clock, and I have no idea what my SW is now, but it should be atleast 335 minimum will report back after a hit today ;)

Anyone switch over/demo the Dunlop Srixon CX 200 16x19? I'm curious if it hits similarly, but I can't find any shop nearby to test it out

Okay wow, everything is better after adding 4g of lead. Much more top spin, more depth, more stability. I didn't notice any downsides. My student even noticed a difference and asked me to lead up her DR 98's also.

It doesn't feel heavy to me at all, so i could probably add a LOT more, but im going to hit with it another week before i add some more. I'm trying to get 350-360 SW

I found a Dr98 grip size 1. My regular grip size is 3. If I add heat shrink sleeve and overgrip to get it more towards my grip, i think i would be making it 3pts more HL (from 6 to 9-10pts HL). I don't mind HL racquets but I do not know how this racquets reacts to it. Would I need to counterweight? Does this racquet react good to tail weighing?

I'm currently playtesting the Ezone Lite (270g). It's strung with a polyester string. I'm looking for a comfortable racket, but probably because of the polyester string, it doesn't feel comfortable.

The DR Lite (270g) is stiffer, but the reviews say it is more comfortable.
Does anybody know if that's true?

I'm calculating my balance manually but somehow my DR 98's are 10-11 pts headlight STRUNG! and I have 16G natural gut in them. I do have 3 over wraps on them because I got a 1/8 grip size. Does this sound normal ?? Lol

This sounds like my DR 98's. I have 3 overwraps on and according to my manual calculations i am at 10-11 pts HL

Mine was also off spec compared to TW. Static weight is good, but the strung balance was 8HL instead of listed 6HL, which led to a swingweight of only 310 instead of 324. Had to add quite a lot of weight (12g hoop, 10g handle, heavier Babolat Syntec Pro Grip + Yonex OG) to bring it to my 335-340 SW range. Nonetheless, a joy to play with.

Welp this is me, so i guess my strung SW is 310 instead of 324, LMAO. I'm over here thinking my SW is 340 when in reality it's probably 325 even after adding 4g lead

I finally got a DR 98 second hand after so many good reviews. Very curious how it plays. I'm playing with the VCORE 95 now and I'm hoping it sort of feels the same but with a bigger sweet spot. The one I got is almost freshly strung with Yonex poly tour pro at 25kg. I normally play hybrid with Alu power & Babolat sun gut at 23kg. Any recommendations for strings?

Congrats and welcome! PTP is quite soft for a poly so see how you like it, I play with a full bed of PTP yellow 125 and find it to be quite comfortable so long as the court is dry.

DR98 is great !!! I strung a full bed of Kirschbaum max power at 52 lbs. I play in Argentina, in summer that moment and play in clay, in winter time play with 50 lbs. You can use a full bed of polys because the DR98 is very arm friendly.

I have a a yellow DR98 L2 that I would trade for your L1 if your interested. I need one more L1 and can't find a good one.

Had my DR98 since January and like it alot, stickibg with 17g strings for now abd gradually dropping in tension.

Currently have a 17g prototype square shape string at 49# in it and like it, about to switch to 18g and go a hair lower at 47#.

Tried yonex ptp 125 at 51 and it was giving me shoukder problems so i cut it out

I bought too many in L3 when the DR98 was being discontinued last year lol. Some of them are strung once or less, need to let go of a couple. PM.

I had a Pure Drive that gave me TE, I sold it for half price and brought a DR98 I should be getting it tomorrow. Anyhow its got volkl cyclone strings in it, They look pink or reddish in the picture. I have never tried them before. Are these strings to harsh because my elbow is still sore ? Should I cut them out? They are supposed to be only two weeks old. I was thinking of a soft multifilament in the cross and timo 110 in the mains. Some people say stay away from polys if have elbow problems but timo 18 is properly the softest poly isn't it?. And I do like polys

I have the old yonex ezone dr 98 and i read that many people added some lead tape at 3 and 9 o clock to higher the swing weight. How many grams of lead tape should i use?
And can you just 'cut' the lead tape? (https://www.tennisdirect.nl/wilson-lead-tape - for instance, this is in total 40 grams, that is quite a lot right?)

I think they add about 14 grams tops. so 40 grams would do a few rackets . I think they add it at 3 and 9 to increase the sweet spot not for added swing weight however maybe its for both reasons. https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/how-many-grams-of-lead-tape-should-i-add.119464/

Just a warning for those messing with lead, for some odd reason using short strips at 3 & 9 (4 inches) gave me a lot of arm pain and created a lot of hotspots on the string bed, I now use 8 inch strips going from about 2 to 5 and 7 to 11 and have had much better luck. I do it the same way Osaka does. Feels a lot more comfortable than stock and bigger sweetspot. I like lead better on the sides rather than 12 for this frame. it's still very easy to swing. I have added 16g total so far and it's still very easy to swing.

I added 6g at noon and the racket became unwieldy so this way is easier to bump up the SW gradually and get a bit more forgiveness. No loss of spin so far.
