Yonex Ezone DR CLUB!!!!~~~!!!

I play with an Ezone DR grip size 3 with a Babolat Skin Feel base grip pulled tight. I just got another one from a friend and it's grip size 2. I know this won't be exact but what is a good base grip to get a similar grip size and feel? Gamma Hi tech?
Use a 1/2 size heat shrink sleeve and then use your normal grip set up. If you don't have a shrink sleeve you can use athletic tape in vertical strips to build up the pallet. I usually cut sleeves down to about 75% up the grip so I don't have as much added weight and my racquet hand is more important grip wise than my 2nd hand on backhands.

I just ordered two Clash 100’s.

I had a great time with my four DR98’s but I just need to go even more arm friendly. Time to sell.

I've just started playing with the lime DR - loving it! Anyone that's in Australia that wants to sell a DR for a reasonable price, let me know

Thanks. That is why I was thinking the gamma hi tech. Thicker than the skin feel but also firm. I have 4 other DRs matched so I'm not sure if this will work. Might have an almost brand new DR grip size 2 up for sale soon....
Hello DAX, Please PM in case of you are selling the L2 group sized dr98.

Thanks!

Just got a pair of the dr 98s. I strung one up and tested it out briefly, and I was just stunned. It was all around, just a stunning racket. I was using the xi 98 for a bit before, and though both have a distinctive feel that Im assuming all ezones have, the dr is just so plush and amazing. I think I might use it stock, but Ill probably add another overgrip because my usual grip size is a 3, and the drs that I have are 2.

Its my preferred stick as well. I bought 4 last year, got lucky and found a brand new one.
The other three were L3s, I play with a L4 so I just added a shrink wrap.

makes you wonder why Yonex couldn’t stick to that magic wand formula and other manufacturers didn’t try to copy it. Still playing with the ones I bought in 2015.

you should try adding 2-3 g at 12 that really turns into a killer baseline racquet.

Yeah I was thinking of adding some weight. As it would probably help my serve as well. I also tried a ai 98 lite, I was expecting a lack of stability, but it felt extremely similar to the Dr 98. I would definitely get more if I had a way to get them as cheap as I was able to, but in the US it seems that these are quite pricey. Also gonna be looking out for the Dr 98+

the gripsize of DR seems to be generous because Yonex uses thin basisgrips. so you must have big hands like trump if you know what i mean..

Big boned. LoL.

Sticks have a heat shrink, then Babolot skin feel as grip( trying to keep it thin), Yonex overgrip. Probably changes the balance a bit too but since I’ve done this to 3 of them that I use it’s ok. It’s a constant across all of them.

What did you string it with ? I am about to experiment with a DR 98 I bought.

Isospeed baseline long life at 52#. Honestly a thinner string would be nice, but man baseline feels so soft. I'll probably get some other string and try stuff out

So I have history of arm issue, tore my biceps tendon and some other things. I string my mains pretty much exclusively with natural gut, usually VS at 16 gauge. Crosses I have used YPTP, Head Lynx Tour, Hyper G, Lux Element, and some others. I have enjoyed the YPTP and Head Lynx Tour the most with the gut in the mains.
Not harsh on the arm, plenty of power and decent spin.

these injuries can not be blamed on your equipment. Do you als karate or kickboxing maybe?

The root of these injuries are not from tennis, just like any other activity they exaggerate and aggravate them. Just need to take precautions with my equipment and form.

DR allows me to play 3 times a week with hybrid strings....plenty of power and control.
I got about 10 other racquets but the DR and the VCP HD are by far my favorites.

injuries stem from years of high level contact sports and weight lifting. Wish someone told me when I was younger to be more cautious and listen to my body. I digress......

Back to the DR!!!!! Wicked stick. If you can find good use ones, buy them!!!

I have been using my two DR98s since 2016. Although now I don't break many strings, partly because of my age (55) and partly because of the density of the string bed; the rackets seem to show some fatigue.
In my club, I was testing a VCore and a Dunlop 300, but they are not even close to the DR98, I will continue to take care of them (it is not easy to buy rackets in Argentina), because I cannot find a way to replace them for now.

I have two DR98's Blue (balanced matched) that I will be selling but I thought I would post it here - they are in very good shape- one is strung with Hyper G (mains) and Xcel (Crosses) the other is Lux ALU (main) and natural gut (crosses) - Grip size is 4 1/2 but I put the Babolat Skin Feel grip so they feel slightly smaller - somewhere in between 3/8 and 1/2

in hindsight, i would have kept my blue dr98 and bought 4 more

i will say my ezone 98 (current model) demo is worlds better than the previous gen. they definitely softened up the feel a little.

So I just got a pair of DRs the other day, and while I was fixing them up with my grip mods, I noticed that my DR L2s are bigger than my Vcore L2s.

I usually put a Wilson butt cap on my yonex sticks, and while the L2 cap fits perfectly onto my 2021 Vcore, it does not for the DR. Not to mention it noticeably feels bigger too.

just curious if anyone else may have observed this between yonex sticks over the years/generations, if yonex is possibly shrinking their grip pallets more now.

Not really, played with DR L2 and now with VCorePro also L2. I feel I'm just in between L2 and L3, but I prefer the smaller one (more room for overgrip selection).

I just bought two more used L4 DR98s and I swear they feel bigger than my current ones all with the same replacement grips. Dunno why…

DR users do me a favour. Go inform modern yonex players that their sticks have no feel and play like a wooden plank. Any player who have experienced DR should throw at the trash bin every ezone afterwards.

I have a DR 98 L3, I bought a DR 98 plus also L3 and it feels a little bigger, then I bought two Vcore Pro 97 HD also in L3 and those feel smaller than the first one.

This racket worth getting? Never played with one before
It's definitely a great stick. Not sure if they're priced well enough or even just available enough for the effort to get one, and really if you already have a racket you like, there's no point. That being said, it is a pretty unique stick and I haven't used anything else really like it. A true modern player stick in my opinion. Great power, spin, and control. Personally I like a thinner beam, but still great either way.

have you played any of the ezones? personally think the DR98 is a good all-around racket but nothing to write home about. not quite sure what the hype is, and the demand for it also seems a little fluky imo. i think the current ezone is the best one i've tried between AI, DR, and 2020 models, but it's an acquired taste.

I loved the soft feel of it, the pocket, predictability of shots. There is power there when you swing it but with pretty good control. It also struck a really good balance with enough mass but headlight and maneuverable. I tried the model after the DR and didn't like it, felt stiffer and disconnected from shot. I have not tried the current model or the one supposed to be released soon. Hopefully it is good because i need some new ones. I can't get used to these other sticks i bought (Tech TF40, Price Textreme Tour 100).

I've for two Yonex EZone DR 98s, one is like and the other is blue. I remember back when they released it NEEDING the blue version too. Clearly I fell to their marketing strategy but luckily now I have two DRs and they play so well and have such a great reputation that I'm not even interested in 'upgrading' to any of the new EZones.

1. Does anyone have any stringing suggestions for these two stings:

Yonex PolyTour Pro 125 - yellow
Yonex PolyTour Spin 120

I'm going to put the yellow PTP string in the lime DR and the PTS in the blue DR.
I'm predominantly a baseliner, but I play doubles too. I put in ample amount of spin on my shots nowadays, but I used to play very flat so depending on what's coming at me, I can also flatten things out and like to play with slice too, just to give the opponent a variety of balls to deal with.
I currently have them strung with PTP yellow at 50lbs but I've been reading users stating to string the mains and crosses slightly different to get best results.

2. I've been reading users like to add lead to their DRs especially at 3 and 9 or at 12. What would people recommend for my game style? I feel I could probably cope with some extra weight as currently I just have them stock weight with an overgrip.

Cheers :)

You could try adding a little weight to different spots using Blu Tac so it’s easy to move around to different spots and adjust the amount added. Don’t mess with your strings at the same time though, do that separately so you don’t complicate the process. Some people say to play with the lowest tension you can control well. Some people like to have a lower tension on the crosses, some don’t. Try it all out and you’ll find what you like eventually. Read up a bit cos there’s physics involved and it’ll help you understand what works for you and why but also experiment cos it’s fairly subjective at the same time.

any arm issues?

I play with the 98 currently, super soft frame
but I know the 100 is up there around 69, this really surprised me.
was thinking soft co poly around 51 lbs.
