Some of the courts I've played on are worse! There are cracks about a half-inch wide splitting the ad service court, so if you can place your serve on a dime, you can serve to the crack and get the ball to bounce parallel to the net.

Not to hijack Peter's thread but Noelle - try playing on public courts that double as ice covered hockey rinks in the winter. Made of rough concrete and have wire chain link fences for nets. I guess this is how the city encourages people to be active in the summer. :roll:

hmmm... good question. mine was already posted from my friend's website so i just copy/pasted the link. don't really know how you can upload your picture unless you have your own web space. you can also upload your pictures to imageshack.com and then copy/paste the link here.

I don't think the court on which Peter was playing looks too bad; I assume it was a public court. I had a hit one one not much better this morning. One of the nice things about living in Aust seems to be the large number of free public courts - I have the choice of four of five locations within ten minutes from my house, all public and quite well maintained. They're all hard courts of course, but the local councils look after them pretty well, no-one steals the nets, you just turn up and have a hit.

Actually, the court was completely dry in that pic. It's just that the paint's faded, so it looks shiny in some spots and dull in others.

Noelle, you would be surprised how many gorgeous public tennis courts there are if you go to rich suburban neighborhoods. I just got back from visiting my dad in Virginia and they have 10, beautiful, immaculate hard courts complete with lights, concave practice walls, singles and doubles courts. All this is totally open to the public at the local community center.

No kidding. In Hong Kong tennis was so expensive, hence why i didn't start playing until I came to the States. Btw, those courts aren't really public, but they are cheap to play on. I've never payed for court time though since I always had friends at clubs or what not. I can also use the courts where I teach at. Another thing to note is that you can always find free courts in good shape at High Schools and Colleges....at least in Texas....

Yeah, in Georgia as well. Also, every neigborhood in the ATL burbs has great courts. I have 2 excellent courts in my subdivision, in a beautiful setting, that I can walk onto at any time.
