Zverev still has no top 5 slam wins

Zverev is 26. He is almost playing for a decade. In 2017 he was in top 10 already. Still since his career beginning, he has 0 top 5 wins.

His top 10 loss streak ended vs Alcaraz in RG 2022. But he still couldn't beat a single top 5 player.

He has played 10 top 5 matches and 6 of them are to non big 3 players. Still nothing.

Any decent tennis player in tennis history at least would have a couple. There are only some fluke some winners who had none before they won a slam.

He has 2 WTF, 6 Masters, 1 Gold medal, 21 titles. No other slamless player has won more than him. I doubt he'd trade any of this against top5 wins in Slams. If he can't win a Slam who cares who he beats, it's a pointless stat. Would you rather beat a top-5 in Slam and then lose in SF, or win a Slam without beating a top5?

It's very very difficult to happen when you can't win vs top 5. Players who could not beat top 5 rarely ever won a slam.

Nalbandian won 1 match vs top 5 in slams. Daveydenko won 0. Both are slamless.

While Cilic won a match in 2010 itself. Wawrinka in 2010. Thiem in 2017. Medvedev in 2017. Who else has won a slam in past 20 years.

Nadal won a Slam without beating a top-20, lol.
Alcaraz's first Slam win was just as ridiculous, no top-10 win except Ruud in the final.
In the next decade or 2 I'm sure there will be many new Slam winners, some of them won't need to beat top-5.

I won't count nadal's USO 17. First of all Nadal himself has won some 20/30 matches vs top 5 in slams already.

I don't think there have been slam players who were this bad winning a slam. Only flukes did so but Zverev has already reached many qfs and some semis. He has zero wins vs top 5.

Those are all meaningless stats. Beating top 10 or top 5, who cares. The guy has won plenty of tournaments, but no slams, probably because he’s type 1 diabetic and can’t withstand the rigours of 5 set matches.

Yeah right, it was his diabetes caused him to choke against Thiem.

Guess its the diabetes that causes his 2nd serve to fly into the stands and his FH to spray too.

Might as well blame it for his chicken legs as well.

Zverev has zero grand slams. Bo3 he has many titles.

But you're dangerously close to going into nitpick territory. You dismiss the win over Alcaraz because he was 6th seed and not a top 5 player? Like, seriously? Alcaraz is arguably the best player on the tour outside of Djokovic the last couple of years and again I remind you that Zverev has beaten peak Djokovic, at tournament Novak was desperate to win.

Zverev has an unfortunate slam stain on a his career but his career still has masters titles with wins over big name players. People always seem to forget that. He's career is doing better than like 95% of the tour right now lol

There can be no nitpicking if we look at tennis historically. I found this very interesting fact that Zverev has zero top 5 wins. Just like a year back it was amusing he had zero top 10 wins.

Haha, you’re joking but actually diabetes can make you lose muscle mass and have chicken legs.

It doesn't count as much as you Murray fans try to elevate it.

Notice how the only players who build up to the Olympics excessively, some trying to put it on the level or above a slam, are players that won the Olympics, particularly Olympic singles gold- Capriati, Agassi, Murray, Nadal, Kafelnikov, there is a reason for that. The ironic thing is the only player to win 2 singles golds and 3 singles medals at the Olympics- Steffi Graf, and a multi Olympic gold medalist (Mary Joe Fernandez) are two of the ones who have downplayed the importance of the Olympics, saying it is a special feeling, but not that big a tennis achievement, numerous times.

Incorrect.

Lendl at age 24 (two years younger than Zverev) was slamless but had won 39 titles and 3 YEC's. Olympics are a moot point since they didn't exist for tennis in 1984 except as an exhibition sport. So yes, a slamless player won a hell of a lot more than Zedrot.

He almost did. Sinner was #6 seed

He just won’t win slams. He had a chance in 2020 and blew it against a very poor performing Thiem. It will never happen

Amazingly, as a type 1 Diabetes sufferer he managed to win YEC, Gold Medal and ATP 1000 as well as become a Slam finalist!

He deserves more respect from the fans.
