Prestige Pro - why doesn't Head turn it into a real "pro" ?

The Prestige used to be a heavy player's frame, about 340gr unstrung but these things are getting lighter and lighter and become less of a player's frame with each iteration.

Head has enough 98-100sq frames which are about 290-315gr. Why don't they at least turn the Prestige Pro into a real "pro" by increasing the unstrung weight to 330-340gr again?

Oh and a leather grip please! Why does hardly any racket come with a leather grip anymore?

I just started playing with the new GXT PP racket. No pinging with mine. It's a great racket. Great plow through and very soft yet solid feel. Love it. Mine is 11.9 oz with over grip and dampener and it feels every bit as solid as the 12.3 oz Pure Storm Tours I've been playing with for 5 years.

It's too bad you can't buy Leather grips and lead tape, or even something like silicon to bring them up to spec. Without those customizing options we're left at the mercy of the manufacturers to make exactly what we need.

Oh..

I'm 1000% with you........BUT how many would they sell honestly?????? That's the bloody issue.......no true market for such a stick.

Maybe a special limited edition? Would kill to get a new reissue of the 1986 brown beauty........

It's kinda like commissioner Gordon reaching for the batphone or turning on the bat signal, VSB will be there to remind head just how wrong they have been approaching recent prestiges and their own excellent past.

I wanted to love my Youtek Prestige Pro but with a 66RA it was just too stiff to use as my go to.

+1. Most horrible sound of any racquet.

They do play well though.
Like a wheezing or sick Woody Allen?... because that would be horrible... Gilbert Godfried or Edith Bunker are also high on the list of awful sounds. I should hate Fran Dresher's sound... but I dont. Regardless any racquet that sounded like that would be unplayable.

In 25 years of tennis I never needed to customize any rackets. I don't need Head. They don't make the rackets I want and I stick with Wilson and their 330-340gr frames. I would try the PP if it was heavier, but why should I pay 200$ (400-600 actually) for an "unfinished" product (unfinished for me)?! And adding a leather grip isn't as easy as it sounds.

Not sure, but Wilson's RF97A seems to do well. But there's no Roger Federer behind a Prestige these days. I guess that could be a problem... :p

Well I'm glad that the majority of those who responded to this topic seems to a agree with me.

Adding a leather grip is not a big deal. I play with them on most of my frames. Same with customizing. I don't see it as an unfinished product, but rather one that allows me the flexibility to make it my own.

Hey, thats my racquet! I only came back to tennis 3 years ago and all I had left was this guy, which I got as a HS senior. Alas, my racquet before this, Max200G, is lost to history.

I've tried numerous newer racquets, but I always come back to this. The only thing I didn't like was it was underpowered for groundstrokes, for me. This year I've added
maybe 1/4-1/3 oz of lead at 12, getting it to 12.1 oz and 2.5 pts HL. All the best qualities are still there and groundstrokes are now about right. I'm going to keep experimenting with more weight until it is too much then back off.

Maybe I'm different than you guys, but I love the synthetic replacement grips. I find it a much better experience than a leather grip from back in the day.

If only Wolfgang Schlor would listen to me!!! I don't think Wolfgang ever looks at how good the racquets used to be. It would be a scary thing to think that Wolfgang intends his racquets to play and feel as they do.

I'm glad to hear that you're still enjoying your REAL Prestige Pro!

Reported for pornography! There are kids watching this; don't you know? What if they all start asking for one??

The kids don't know. Thats why we have to spread the gospel. They have to know how good these racquets really are.
