Oh yeah I'm fine, if you ever met me you would learn that I say stupid crap all the time and your next reaction would be to hate my guts because I'm an A-hole.

It was more or less making fun of Zapvor in the fact that he would probably drive the 10 hours (is that how long it takes I don't even know) to RI meet a girl he probably has no chance with than drive an hour for free beer.
He hasn't had one of your tennis rackets waiting to be strung has he? That is another tactic he is known to pull.
Although I did demolish him in pong one time and retired from international competition immediately following the victory.
hahahha i have been practicing my pong. you had home court basement advantage man

Thanks! It's a pretty deep team...we probably didn't help you guys out, by taking 3 of your players!

It is a deep team, and that is key to going far. You guys had plenty of strong players on the roster who didn't even play last weekend!

You know I didn't even realize we shared those three until we were almost done with the DC season, which as you know, we didn't wrap up until the very last ball was hit. Yeah, we probably could have used them! In fact, I dare say all 3 would have been in every one of our lineups! I feel like we competed pretty well, though, and I know I saw more than my fair share of tennis that weekend!

Tucson is a blast, have a great time!

are these trips sponsored? seems like a lot to ask for a group of people to fly 1/2 around the country and then play some matches without some type of $$$$

this is from someone that needs to be tempted with food to come out of the basement

Not really - there's some money given from the section to cover the tournament entry fees. But yeah - winner of sectionals pays lots to go to nationals haha fun?

What are people grilling?

I never saw any money from the section last year.

I worked all weekend...I'm not grilling, not working, not really interested in even moving around a lot!

We lost both of our first matches 2-3 - Friday's match felt like the hottest match I've ever played in...so brutal! My body failed me! Mclovin and I lost on Friday and won Saturday.

Playing for fun today!

I got Sectionals next weekend. This heat has been brutal. I played 2 hours of singles and 2 hours of doubles yesterday to try and acclimate. Unfortunately, we have to play on hard courts. Such an inferior surface (nose up in the air).

That heat was brutal. I played singles on Saturday and then the semis on Sunday. Won on Saturday and lost on Sunday. I thought my shoes were melting and I couldn't even think straight during the second set on both days lol.

@McLovin sighting this weekend...we finished 2-1 on the weekend, however our team fell just short to the 2nd and 1st place teams (losing 2-3 to both of them)...it was a hot and muggy weekend...i think we are safe at 4.5...woohoo!

what's for lunch people?

Temps were 90+ air, 100+ on court, and as you know, I tend to sweat a bit. On Friday and Saturday, I went through (for each match):
  • 3 shirts
  • 5 wristbands
  • 2 20-oz bottles of G2
  • 1 32-oz bottle of G2
  • 2 20-oz bottles of water
And this is only doubles. I can't imagine what it would have been like had I played singles. Luckily we had 4 young bucks who could not only stand the heat, but would go out & play another set after the matches on Friday & Saturday.

The sad part is, even with all those fluids, I still started to camp a little after Saturday's match.

Sunday was played at 7:30AM, and we crushed. One of our opponents was not happy, and @downs_chris turned to me at one point and said "you know, I'd be a bit annoyed if I was playing us also"...

we kept putting balls back into play...haha, the moody guy called you a bad word...not sure what his problem was...both of our teams were out of it, so it was essentially a "usta" practice...

Well that's not very nice! I had sectionals this past weekend too, for mixed doubles. We swept our first two matches and lost the last one, so we didn't advance, but after one of the wins one of the ladies yelled at me that I "wasn't even that good." Uhhh okay.

some people take it WAY too serious...i said, we all have to go back to work on monday - therefore, we are all losers here...

are you done with post season, or is there more to play?

You need a hat dude! Ditch the Gatorade and try Salt Stick pills for cramps.

He said he can't play with a hat haha
Correct on the hat. I've tried it, along w/ sunglasses, and I feel as though my field of vision is affected, especially on serves. Maybe I'll give it a try again, but it just bothers me.

On the cramping...it wasn't anything severe, just that I'd move in one direction too quickly & I'd start to feel it happening. I'd pause, maybe pull back a bit, then it would go away. These really were extreme conditions, and to be honest, the best thing I could have done is drink a gallon of water BEFORE I stepped on the court...which I didn't.

Cramping is all about electrolyte levels. Yes you need water but in extreme heat the electrolytes are going to get depleted before you get dehydrated.

Funny you mention that. I heard a report on the radio this morning and Googled it when I got to work. Now, I realize its possible to find practically anything on the internet to support a viewpoint, so take this w/ a grain of salt (no pun intended):
Some Random News Article said:
...MacKinnon won the 2003 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work in understanding how channels in cell membranes work to move ions such as potassium from one side of a membrane to the other. Building on this, he reasoned that the right combination of natural TRP channels activators could switch on nerves that could in turn inhibit the over-active alpha motoneurons that cause cramping.

MacKinnon’s original idea has triggered a wave of laboratory and field research, with recent results demonstrating that the frequency and duration of cramps can be reduced when subjects ingest a specially formulated spicy beverage before exercise.

As a result of this research, we are coming closer to the understanding the true cause of cramping. So, while electrolytes, hydration, and fitness certainly matter for performance, athletes should not be looking to those elements to cure their cramping issue. As we continue to learn more about the root cause of cramps, we will also begin to understand how we can prevent them.
