limited edition frames are pointless and bad business

Like the title says, These frames such as the Bryan Bros Prince Frame and the new Wilson Jack Kramer pro staff. They are priced at an outrageous price so the average tennis player can not or just does not want to put out the money. I feel like a $200 Bryan Bros frame will actually generate a decent amount of sales for Prince, who really needs it. Am I the only one that thinks that way ?

The Bryan Bros frame has a $90 markup compared to most frames these days, and is only $50 more than the new RF frame, which is selling like hotcakes. To add, with only 999 frames, and a true pro spec, they are going to sell, believe you me, so I've got to disagree.

wilson can put roger federer's name on a bag of dog poop and it will sell . It just feels like to make it a "normal" frame will be better business. Just for us more working middle class folks who gets there sticks in the discount bin

To me it just sounds like you want the frame, but don't want to pay $299 for it. Fair enough, though keep in mind, Prince marketed those frames to people who are willing to pay $299, so they are neither pointless or bad business. Quite the contrary.

If I was owner of the brand, I'd still do it because of brand recognition. It's not all about direct making of money on limited edition. Prince can increase total sales by lifting brand awareness - having Bryan brothers on their side is something that can be explored in marketing sense, and being in position to issue limited editions is something that biggest brands do - so again the brand recognition (and status). My opinion is that this is the real reason why Prince did it (besides, being a big brand they do have a need to occasionally issue something new, and limited edition is better than nothing). And markup on price is part of the marketing, too.

It might sell even more if it was priced $50?

At a certain point, it is not only the revenue, but brand recognition, the feeling of association with someone special that drives the pricing strategy. It is not aimed for somebody waiting for Happy Hour.

well if they're only making 1000 of them they're maybe making a $300,000? profit for a racquet they're already making & have a mold for so i think they're doing ok...

Not altogether true. all limited edition frames are not expensive or bad ideas. For instance, Tecnifibre makes two 315 Limited edition frames, a 16 main version and an 18 main version. The price is no higher than their other frames and have a loyal following.

Wait for a couple weeks, there will be used ones for sale on the bay or in here.
Or, call Angell and have them make a frame with the same specs.

I personnally think these special edition frames are great. What I'd really like, is for these to be exactly like the frames of the pros they sponsor. With lead tape strip added at the exact location (or at least provide the information so we can add them). My thinking is, if you sell me a limited edition of a pro frame, I want the exact frame the pro uses. Not some kind of look alike frame with different weight/balance/stiffness/SW. Because that would just be b**lsh!t and nobody wants that right?

I'm clearly not the target audience, and I'm not a fan of hyped limited edition things. It's not bad business but I find it pointless from my point of view.

Maybe I'm just a hopeless cynic.

Now where's my special edition Ayrton Senna Honda Accord? It's been two decades!

Not true. This forum is filled with stick collectors, so it's a great business idea on TW. As for people that actually plays for a living, they got no time this stuff.

Sorry I have a limited opinion , it may be bad one, but at least have 998 left...
I also "think" they need to make more racquets in an exclusive "pink" color!

I dont think the Tecnifibres were Limited "Edition" though. It just had the Limited in the name. Same goes for the Babolat Pure Storm Limited.

I was told by the Tecnifibre NSM they are Limited edition. They make a limited number and when the run out they make more. In the future though they will only be sold in the US.

Also why is it always some kind new pink color edition?
How about leather wrapped? Or a biker or cowboy edition, or even a evil clown edition...harry potter too..hey they do a have spongie bob edition...

Honestly, I know Prince is in somewhat difficult times economically but they had David Ferrer and they didn't make a spec. edition for him but for Bryan bros. I know there are hard core doubles fanatics but most fans don't care for it.

When you have to spend half your monthly salary to get a coveted racked - this is a real cause for lamentation. Otherwise it is very childish to complain about prices.

I rather have limited edition of some of the best double team there is, than a good but not great player.

but is could be opposite, from what i have researched it that sometimes more will equal stiffness not comfort.
The balance always needs the Goldilock factor....
