Anyone who wants to know more about Nicola Kuhn might find these links interesting. www.facebook.com/nicolakuhntennis and www.donnagee.blogspot.comSpain is becoming a melting pot, no? I'm guessing Kuhn won't be adopting the custom of twin surnames though. ADF's mouthful shows his Russian bloodline.
Ruud alsumbering continues, 6-7 4-6.
Kolar had every opportunity to crumble but played aggressively when Ruud had opportunities to break the match open, held his own (8 of 9 BPs saved) and jumped on Ruud's serve in the final game with go for broke returns that gained the win.
Mid season malaise.Grievous.
They all seem doomed to have these massive sophomore slumps at some point.
In the pic he looks very close to the size of JMac. Maybe he is slouching a bit. He's listed as over 6 feet tall...Anyone who wants to know more about Nicola Kuhn might find these links interesting. www.facebook.com/nicolakuhntennis and www.donnagee.blogspot.com
Taberner made the SFs in San Benedetto. Maybe he will also help rebuild the aging Armada. As we wind our way to the end of the week, Stefanos is out in The Hague (kindly letting local native de Bakker take the victory); Rublev scored a very impressive victory in Umag over defending champ Fognini and is moving on to the SFs; the Koreans (Lee and Kwon) are gone from Astana ; and, Shapovalov knocked out the #2 seed (Fabbiano) in Gatineau .

They all mature differently so he might round into a solid player at his own pace. Few watching the scene back in the early 00's gave Ferrer much chance to reach his eventual level. Thanks for that additional point!
Regarding the Spanish Armada, I'll cast my sails in the direction of Davidovich Fokina, 2 years Taberner's junior, and, of course, young Nico Kukn. But, hat's off to Taberner, taking down Granollers. Perhaps I was too hasty in judgement?
Two other German teens also received qualies WCs and play veteran seeds:Ruud is just starting his Q1 match in Hamburg....up against young 16 year old Rudolph Molleker, a pretty solid junior who's been dabbling at Futures tourneys this year. Still needs more seasoning.

Watch the other German teen WC Altmaier as well. He takes on Zeballos 1R and has a bit more seasoning with already a QF appearance as a LL in this month's ATP250 Antalya Open on grass. He beat VEB and Ilhan in 3rd set TBs to reach that stage and will try to extend the tradition of a German WC teen winning a 1R match at Hamburg made last year by Louis Wessels and in 2014 by The Young Zedi Warrior. All aboard the new hype train. Never hear of him before this week, but those are 2 really nice wins at 16.
Let's see how he does vs Khachanov in the MD
I've seen Altmaier. He's good as well, but there's others his age or younger who I'm more impressed by.Watch the other German teen WC Altmaier as well. The Big Kozlovski also qualified at Atlanta ATP250. He will play fellow qualifier Halys tonight. It was a good day for teen tennis.
We had a very young upstart (16yo Molleker) qualify for an ATP500.
We had Rublev shake off the Lucky Loser status to go on to win Umag.
We had an up-and-coming 18yo (Shapovalov) win his second Challenger.
Molleker does not continue the Zedi/Wessels tradition of 1R German teen upsets, losing to Khachanov in straight sets.
He has time...won't be 17 until late October and already a win in qualies over Leo Mayer, a former top 21 player just two years removed from that ranking. Now that LL Mayer is going toe-to-toe with the current #24 player ARV. Rudolf' level is not far removed from competing well at ATP level.Molleker played reasonably well. Maybe his game is ultimately lacking a real weapon but I expect him to reach the top 100 level before he turns 20.
Horrible day for the teens. That's a new low for Fritz losing to Eubanks, Jeez. Seemed like an easy 1st rd for him. Also the chokes by both Opelka and Tiafoe...Teenage bloodbath everywhere...Roobles and Molleker in Hamburg down in straigh sets; Fritz upset by Christopher Eubanks in straight sets in Atlanta, where his two teen compadres Tiafoe and Opelka folded at critical junctures. Tiafoe broke to serve for the match at 6-5 third set vs Millman, was broken back and then lost the decisive TB 5-7. Opelka failed to convert 8 MPs in the second set, four on Jaziri's serve before a long TB that was lost 14-16 and then folded 1-6 in the third.
At Challenger level, Mmoh advanced to 2R in Binghamton.
Rain has backed up action at Granby but Purcell, WC Sigouin and #4 seed Shapovalov are all scheduled for 1R play on Wednesday.
I half expected a Money drop but not for the bottom to fall out of the market. The first set was close but he caved badly after dropping it. That needs to stop.Horrible day for the teens. Money getting blown out was actually expected IMO, coming right off the title into a tough 1st rd match.
Wasn't able to watch the match, sounds like I didn't miss much though. Quite a solid win though regardless, Marinko was a top 40 player not that long ago (I'm assuming he's been injured). Go Chapeau! Here is the Livestream link to the Shapo Matosevic match.

Early goings, but so far an ugly match. I hope they settle down and play some solid tennis.
ETA: Denis takes it 75 63, but it was a fugly match. No rhythm. Few long rallies. Unforced errors by both players....but in the end Denis picked up his game. I'm not used to watching Matosevic, but he just seemed miserable. (not to other people, but his general demeanor) It just sucked the energy out of the match.
Marinko has never been the life of the party. At least he is consistently miserable. Here is the Livestream link to the Shapo Matosevic match.

Rublev (#51) and Tiafoe (#67) say hi.Looking at the men's ATP ranking, there no teenagers in the top 100 currently that I know of. Taylor Fritz is 125!

You are right 19! Thought they were older for some reason! You know your tour players, thanks!Rublev (#51) and Tiafoe (#67) say hi.
Piros partnered with Kuhn to win the RG Boys dubs last month. From Tennis Europe tweet:
Zsombor Piros beats top seed Corentin Moutet (FRA) to become the first ever Hungarian winner of the European 18&U Championship boys' title

Yaaaasss! (I'm sorry, was that my outside voice?)
The Hungarians have a pretty solid teen program. Hats off to them.
