Demos with Polyester

I always use multifiliment strings and plan to stay with it for several reasons. What happens if I receive a demo strung with polyester? Will I be able to accurately judge the racket? Is it possible that it may be a racket I would like, but the poly strings would cause me to think it was a bad racket? Should I not demo with it? Or, any tips on how to do the demo with polyester? When playing singles I am a steady baseliner at the intermediate level, not a very hard hitter, but I do also play doubles where I volley a lot. I hit with moderate topspin. I am probably a 3.5 - 4.0 USTA. Please advise.

Most racquet demos are strung with multifilament for this reason. Something like a Wilson Sensation or Reaction. A neutral string, mid tension if possible.

I wouldn't worry about it. TW uses these strings on their demos, from the ones that I've seen.

If you got the demo from TW, you can just call and ask for a replacement demo frame strung with NXT (which is their standard string). They will send you a replacement demo at no charge.

Mistakes happen. I have the demo strung with poly now. It is in my living room. Should I try it or just forget about it? Will I be able to accurately judge the racket? Any advice?

i'd give it a try and see what u think. then check on the string type and tension. that would give u a point of reference. u can always post the info on the forum and get some opinions.

String Manufacturer and string line is unknown, tension unknown, but probably middle tension. Nothing written on the strings. The strings were apparently put in by a person who had a demo of this racket. I have no idea who he is. But I think the strings are probably polyester strings. For the sake of argument let's assume they are.

Anytime I demo a racquet I do a quick restring to use my normal string. I don't see how its possible to demo a racquet using strings that are different from those you plan to use.

...and loose poly can feel very bad. Get another one or restring. About the only thing you'll accurately feel is the swingweight.

That's what I was afraid of. I think I'll try it once and ship it back. It probably would be OK if they sent a different kind of soft multifiliment than I usually use, but a poly will probably be way too different. Thanks for the advice.

What's your policy on demos regarding people stringing them up? Is this something you discourage, encourage, or are neutral on?

Thanks but I think I'll send the racket back this weekend. If you send a new demo, I will receive it when I have to go back to work and won't have time to try it. I'll wait a couple of weeks until I have a long weekend to demo the racket. By the way, do your demos usually have Wilson NXT or Wilson NXT Max. I find the NXT to be nice and soft, but the NXT Max is too stiff for me and my tennis elbow.

The poly wasn't too bad. It was good for certain shots and not for others. Then again, it's hard to say what was caused by the demo racket and what was caused by the poly strings. By the way, McEnroe once said on TV that poly was bad for volleying, but these seemed pretty good for that.
Poly is also known to be bad for people recovering from tennis elbow, like me. I found this to be true, as my elbow is hurting right now.
