Remember Laura Robson? I barely do.

Well that's the problem with the WTA currently. Just look in the Odds n Ends section and you'll see exactly why woman's tennis today is a far cry from what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, I like those photos just as much as the next guy, but if they take less selfies and maybe start practicing for a change, the WTA might improve:)

Media exposure is obviously the thing these days, and it makes a ton of money, much more than prize money, so if the stage is set like that, not much will motivate young girls to go for titles, if they can earn triple by being hot and bankable as Anna Wintour can no doubt explain more convincing than me.

It is all about incentives.

Graf was/is one of my heroes.

Bumping this thread for the following reasons:

1. Genuine interest in Laura's comeback
2. Want to know how @Nostradamus goes with the wedding proposal
3. Update on whether Genie and Laura ended up becoming friends again (maybe rough patches in their respective careers could be a catalyst for a reunion).

Man can you imagine a menage a trois with those two! :D

I have imagined that many times!!

I'm smitten with the tall glass of water named Naomi. It's too bad they will have to knock either one out so early. :/
On the other hand, one of them is guaranteed a place in the 2nd round. They can't both lose, I think.

I totally missed her tournament win at the time. These small tournaments aren't in the main Tennis news and news about Robson in general doesn't really exist anymore.
I was very glad to hear she won a tournament and has now qualified for the US Open. Hopefully this means the wrist is healed and she won't need anymore time off and she is back playing the game for good again.

I heard she is talking with underarmour

Under armour could be interesting. Murray's stuff is no good but they do good kits for Sloane Stephens.

Please quit listening to Nostradamus, he/she knows nothing. Laura is most definitely still with Nike, wore their day-glo yellow today.

I was hoping she was still with Nike. The kits they do for her are great normally. Although the yellow is a terrible colour. I've noticed she has embraced a lot of American culture like Andy Murray and is a big Carolina Panthers fan so I thought the Under Armour thing could be possible!

Partying, socialising, having a good time with her friends. By all accounts, she was never a particularly hard worker and broke up with several coaches who tried to address that problem.

Yeah that's the problem sometimes. You have a little bit of success at the pro level, and it's hard to stay hungry and determined week in and week out. Part of the reason why I think so many people envy guys like Federer, Nadal, and to a slightly lesser extent Murray and Djokovic.

As far as I know she had wrist surgery?

Thanks Mainad.
Well, maybe she find it difficult to motivate herself to train more to get on level she had before surgery.

Looks like another career derailed by injury. Hasn't returned anywhere near her best and who knows if she ever will :( Still only 22 though..

@spystud @Mainad

Did you guys watch the Robson match against Amandine Hesse?

Was her movement compromised? Has the wrist impacted her technique? It seems like a bad loss. Must be tough for her losing to players that she would have been beating even early on in her career.

Laura Robson is seriously due for some luck. She has had to struggle a lot with injuries and also a lot of unwanted media attention when Bouchard went out of her way to declare that she is no longer friends with her. I hope she gets back to playing regularly at a high level to the point where we can enjoy watching the big lefty forehand again and she gets direct entry into the majors. This is not someone who should be playing Q's.

For what it's worth I think Robson might have played too much too young. It seems like she played a stack of pro matches at a very young age and it may have been too much too soon.

I didn't get to see it, just happened to scroll past the scoreline looking for someone else. Hesse isn't a bad player, but she normally shouldn't handle Laura like that.

Well it seems like she never plays. You hear about her playing in a tournament (which results in a 1st round loss) once every 4 months or so.

I would have thought that she should be playing a challenger equivalent (I don't know much about the womens side of things) every other week and constantly training. But it seems like she has 1 practice session and match every few months and then completely forgets about Tennis after.

I wish she would enter a ton of smaller tournaments playing singles and womens doubles.

2016 tournament results:

Edit- oops doesn't look like can directly link. But you can see what singles and doubles she played in 2016. And it's more frequent than once every 4 months.

For those that missed the smaller thread.

Former British No. 1 tennis star Laura Robson was caught up in the Las Vegas shooting on Sunday, but she assured her Twitter followers that she was safe but in shock.

She was at an open-air country music festival close to the Mandalay Bay Hotel when a gunman started shooting. At least 50 people were killed and another 200 have been injured.

She also added on Twitter: "My friend who was deeper in the crowd has been helping people who were shot. We're all in shock."

Robson, the world No. 249, most recently played in a lower tier tournament in Templeton, California last week, losing to Taylor Townsend of the United States in the quarterfinals.

How has she never recovered any of her former level yet? like any of it?

My phone now lets me see what tournaments she has entered and she played 28 events (including doubles at many of them) last year not including Fed cup.
She has already played a tournament this year as well.

I know she loses early but she must at least be playing consistently and apparently injury free now so it seems odd that she would not at least be able to get back to the top 100. Now she is completely anonymous....

If she is able to play/practice all year then how come her form not get closer to what is was?
Her genetic talent level is the same and she is young enough.
