Wake Forest Men

I just watched the CRUSH a very good Oklahoma State team! This Wake team is something special. From top to bottom it will take an amazing team and an off day to beat them! If this match had been a prize fight they would've thrown in the towel as it was over way before the last point was played.

Wake played well. Much better than the opening indoor weekend. Seraphim didn't play singles, so once he gets back into full swing I think Wake will have an even stronger singles line-up. Bar Botzer is looking really good.

While I think Wake is the team to beat, I am not ready to anoint them special yet. They escaped a near upset against an average Vanderbilt team when the indoors were on the line, and there are some other teams like Stanford and Ohio State playing really well right now with equal depth. Wake is definitely the toughest lineup top to bottom, but I think the indoors will be a real litmus test for them.

I know Stanford hasn't won it since 2002, but they have won it a bunch (might lead all teams). And, they have humped it out this year against 3 top 10 teams, beating a really good Illinois team on the road this last weekend, indoors; in Illinois. I am nervous about them making some noise, and certainly listening to any gloating from @Nostradamus . Wake/OSU is all about match ups if and when they play. I think the Doubles point will be the decider here, and right now OSU indoors has the doubles advantage. But, Wake may be too deep in singles...Tough to call

Again, I think Wake will be the team to beat come the NCAA's, but not a lock for indoors....

Can these guys offer any kind of decent match for the Cardinal this weekend ?? These guys are coming at you this weekend.

Wake forest has very good #1 player but that is about it. rest of the squad is just mediocre

Wake's number 2 player, Petros Chrysochos, has been ranked as high as 469 on the ATP Tour, was the #1 ITA college player last year (#4-6 this year), is a two-time All American, won the fall ITA championship in 2016, plays Davis Cup for Cyprus, and beat Tom Fawcett 6-2, 6-0 last year in a match that was't even that close. Petros would easily play #1 for Stanford.

Petros is an outstanding player.

Wake has assumed the mantle UVa used to have as the best team never to win it. I think there was some sickness, but exhibit A was the Deacons' loss to UNC in the NCAAs last year. As I've said on other boards X factor-player for season will be Stanford's Eric Fomba. Team-X factor will be the Tar Heels. Fear Mr. Blumberg.

Wake lost the doubles point to USC, surprising. Stanford has not lost a doubles point all season and beat USC easily. Should be a close match, advantage to whoever wins the doubles.

GOOD CALL on Wake only having 1 good singles player!! Another one bites the dust! And your boy Tommy choked!!
he got lucky, Tom was dead tired from 2nd set on, Fawcett was winning easily when he was fresh in 1st set. Besides Stanford is outdoor team, in NCAA tournament, they will win easily.

Hahaha so being tired is now an excuse? Fitness is one of the most important aspects of tennis. Awinning one set easily doesn't mean anything.. winning two means something. Way to go wake.

I was impressed with Stanford. They really tried hard. They just didn't have the talent. Who were those guys at 3 doubles - a couple of students that won a raffle?

my point being , Tom is just a much better player than Gojo, evidenced by the fact that Tom was just blowing him away with power in 1st set. Tom had really tough long match just yesterday and that really affected him. In may, that won't be a problem.

No worries, in may , #1 and #2 doubles will beat wake forest easily outdoors, thus giving the Cardinal the doubles point.

If he was so good he wouldn't have even had a competitive match yesterday then?

Tom plays Futures/Challengers where ads are played so dont use fatigue excuse. College matches are probably shorter than the pro circuit matches; however pro matches usually dont have dubs on same day or right before singles. It will be harder for Tom in May when Wake has the home and humidity advantage. It was hot and sticky in Athens last May and probably will be the same in Winston Salem. The Southern and Texas teams will have the advantage come May...

Can Tom handle the heat (temp) combined with the HEAT of ACC teams? Tom could not even handle a Big South player last June in the Qualis of a $15K. Does the tree wilt in the heat?

This is what you will be seeing in may after the NCAA final.

Great, great college match. All kudos to Wake. They were clutch. Looks to me like there are five teams capable of winning the Natty: Wake, Stanford, UCLA, Ohio State and A&M. Still the best college sport.

Do you think if Fawcett had been matched up with Petros that Tom would have even shown up for the match given what happened last year?
Exactly, if Geller played Gojo, it would have been 2 and 1 in favor of Geller. so yes that matchup would have worked better for Stanford. You may see just that in May.
