Just out of curiousity here, if you were to wrap your thumb and middle finger around your wrist (just on the opposite side of the "sticky out bone" from your hand), can you touch your two fingers together ? overlap ? can't touch ?

I believe that I have pretty small wrists, but mine wrap all the way around it, with plenty of overlap (my middle finger overlaps my thumbnail)

can u do a visual demo of how to do it?

umm, no-one's here to help me take a pic right now but I'll try explain better:

- hold your hand out (doesn't really matter but tends to be your non-dominant hand)
- hold out your dominant arm
- place dominant hand (palm up) under wrist of dominant arm.
- wrap middle finger and thumb around wrist as much as possible

wrist refers to the join between arm and hand, most people tend to have a bone that sticks out around that region, which is where you place our hand.

When I wrap my dominant fingers around my wrist, they easily touch.

But when I try to wrap around my dominant wrist, I have to squeeze a little.

Why are you asking this, doesnt it have something to do with your build. The harder it is to touch your two fingers, the bigger type of build you have?

This measurement doesn't really tell you much other than how long your fingers are in relation to your wrist. However, if you measure your wrist with a tape measure, that will give you an idea of your build type and the measurement can also be used to give you an idea what your max strength would be on certain lifts.

yeah, it's one of the criteria in determining what build you are, and it's a lot easier than asking "What body type are you". Also i just wanted to now since I've never seen someone that can't wrap their fingers around their wrist =/

So what does it say about your body type?

Generally, joint size affects the way your body is shaped.

In general, if your thumb and middle finger overlap, you are small jointed (usually 6-7 inch wrists); if your thumb and middle finger touch, you are medium jointed (usually 7-8 inch wrists); if your thumb and middle finger do not touch, you are large jointed (usually 8 inches or more in wrist circumference).

My wrists are small, only 6.5 inch ( at 5'9'' and 165 pounds).

I can barely touch the two fingers when wrapped around my right wrist, but my left wrist has polio so it is easily overlapped.

Oops! I mis-voted. I have to squeeze a bit to touch fingers. My right wrist is just under 8", my left is just at 8". (I was born left-handed, but was converted to right handed by my grandmother who thought lefties were the devil's work.) I have long, thin fingers too, btw.
