Well, not 39 yrs old. Nadal is 32.5 right now and Djokovic 31.5, so I believe they will retire about 37.5. Djoko said he want to play till he is 40, and Rafa... you just described it all "had many people thinking that he won't last past 25-26yrs old. Sure, they were badly wrong".

If Federer could last till 37.5, then Djokodal can too.

You didn't add this 2019 year to their age. If your pick is Djokodal retiring at the end of 2024/2025, then Nadal/Djokovic will be ~38.5yrs by end of 2024/2025.

Your quote that "If Federer could last till 37.5, then Djokodal can too." assumes that they play the same style while being equally efficient. They don't (surprise! ;)). Though anything is 'possible'. But then again, playing until 60yrs old is 'possible' too.
But possible =/= probable.

Of course it can happen, but we were expecting same thing from LostGen when they were about the same age as Tsitsipas, Zverev and Coric are now. Not only they didn’t improve with years, but even rolled back.

Yeh I just find it so unlikely that several consecutive generations would relatively suck. It's still contingent on the players declining though. If they maintain their level I've no doubt they can continue to win Slams regardless of the rise of a talented young crop (specifically Nadal and Djokovic).

When will all members of The Big Three drop off and officially draw their era to a close?

To be clear...

Your poll vote should be the year in which the last player remaining finally retires. So if you think it's Nadal 2019, Federer 2026 and Djokovic 2027 the vote would be...

wait for it...

2027
Federer at Basel 2020 or Wimbledon 2021.

LOL. Derailment in the very first post.

meh, I mean who knows, I don't antipate djokodal playing until their late 30s for sure, but I can see them playing until 35 ish, its only 3 more years for nadal. I mean many have said he would be done before 30 and yet here we are and I can see him playing a very limited schedule going forward with most of it revolving around clay.

I know people keep saying 2020 for fed due to Olympics , but I truly don't think he cares about that anymore and is at peace with not getting singles gold. I'm telling myself this just because when it happens I wont be as upset, but wouldn't be surprised at this year for fed. so many signs pointing to it, him saying that he hasn't planned for next year yet, and just taking it one step at a time, all these interviews with an emphasis on post career life, etc. I know he says he doesn't have a clear idea of when he will retire and that he hasn't thought about it but that has been his generic response when asked.

Sure, Djokodal playing until ~35yrs old is definitely possible, even likely. But the OP wasn't suggesting 3yrs, but 6yrs for Nadal (2024) and 7yrs for Djokovic (2025). This year just started, so from 2019 - 2024/2025.

Keep in mind that Nadal/Djokovic's games are brutal, unlike Federer's game, and some proclaimed that Fed was done winning as early as mid-2018.

Then worry not my friend. We can't get rid of Fedr that easily, not soon anyways. Read our responses below and watch what Fed said at the AO19 draw yesterday.

"My goal was always to play for as long as possible..." ~Federer2019, starts at 13:15s:
Roger said during the Australian Open draw ceremony that he will play as long as his body allows. He also said he admires those players like Rosewall and Connors who did the same and cannot understand the others who retire in their early 30s without injuries.

He explicitly said that for him being a tennis professional isn’t a job but was his dream from his childhood on and now is his biggest passion.

Another time he even said that also possible retirements of other big players cannot convince him to go as well, because he likes to play against anybody and especially the youngest players.

Federer is tennis and tennis is Federer.
Glad to hear you caught that too from Fed's draw ceremony. He'll play at least 2 more years imo, and I wouldn't even be surprised if he plays for 5yrs more. As long as he's happy doing the tennis, the longer the better ;) .

Cynical fans will say it's PR talk, or even double talk, but they don't understand who Fedr is. Fed has always been frank, and this frankness of his has some people wrongly label him as arrogant. Plus, PR/double talk is a double-edged sword bc 'at the time' it will work, but if it's later revealed to be a lie, then it will backfire, and perhaps double the damage versus being honest in the first place. Fed is not dumb enough to do that.

The only thing that will 'abruptly' send him into retirement is a serious injury. Barring that, I think he'll give ample time for the tennis world to prepare. I mean, even if Fed is the dumbest guy in the world, he'd know that he's carrying the whole tennis world on his back, no? Thus, he should ease the tennis world into his retirement as he closes his pro-career, no?

For the time being, he ain't going nowhere fast :happydevil:.

I'd bet $10,000 against Fed retiring this year. Seriously if that bet existed as long as it's at least 1.50-1 I'd take it.

There’s only one player in the Open era who won 6 slams in two years and that was Federer 12 years ago. It’s hilarious anyone thinks Djoker at nearly 32 can “easily” do it.
Yes, people predicting slams are not being realistic. It is wise not to predict and just wait and watch. It will also be a real curse on tennis if a sprightly young man doesn't rise up to beat these guys soon.

Personally I would love for Fed to go Navratilova's way of being in the sport for a long time. He loves it. I don't see Rafa doing that. He is someone who will stay away from the sport post retirement. I don't know what Djokovic will do but I reckon he might go the commentary way

Tbh I think Federer will play until he really can't keep up with the top anymore, due to decline or to injury. I know he says he wants to retire on his own terms, but I don't it happening while he's still able to win tier 1 tournaments.

2024, Federer or Djokovic.

Yes, I'm way too optimistic :giggle:8-B.
Yet you criticize others for being very optimistic!
First, you're entitled to your opinion, so don't take this the wrong way. Still, I find your predictions a bid unrealistic.

Fed retiring in 2020 is your most plausible prediction, but I think he'll retire even later.

Nadal retiring in 2024... really? 2019 just started, so you do realize that 2024 will make Nadal retiring in 6yrs, when he's nearing 39yrs old? This is Nadal we're talking about, a guy whose playstyle had many people thinking that he won't last past 25-26yrs old. Sure, they were badly wrong, but you're suggesting Nadal retiring at ~39yrs old. Possible, but highly improbable. MuryGOAT just announced that he's retiring in a few months at most, and he's 1yr younger than Nadal and both play attritional tennis.

Djokovic retiring in 2025... this is more likely than Nadal retiring in 2024, but still, really? He'll ALSO be nearing ~39yrs old by 2025. His game is a bit more efficient that MuryGOAT, but Andy will be retiring in a few months, and Djokovic/Murray are of the same age. Again, possible but highly improbable that Djokovic will retire in 2025.

It's your opinion though. Carry on. ;)
She is just being optimistic like you. Also, in 2024 Nadal will be 38 (not 39 as you said).

Not 6 in 2 but Novak did get 5 in 2 recently.

I have him winning AO & FO but if he got Calendar Slam by some miracle that would be destiny.

Again, really sad about Murray. I always thought he'd have his 2-3 year stretch to dominate after the big 3 had faded since he came onto the scene a bit later but it's not to be. Fed at the end of 2020,I'll say Nadal the year after and Djokovic in 2023

Djokovic said his only goal now is to surpass Federer in number of GSs. Seems he is determined and has a plan and man with a plan is the most dangerous. So Novak to retire the last and with the most GS titles.
I don't believe he said that,7 slams short absolute country mile

I said it before and here it is again - Fed will not retire as long as Nadal is playing.
Also, if Djokovic surpassed Nadal's tally, while everyone was still active, Fed will play as long as Nole will.
All of that without a career ending injury coming into play.

There's no way his body holds up to play until he's 40. My guess is he'll retire around 36 or 37 at the oldest.

100% agree.

Fed would be the most likely of the 3 to play until he's 40 simply because of his style of play.

IF (big 'if') Rafa plays until 2024, he wouldn't retire after RG, but rather after Olympics, because that year the Olympics are held in Paris therefore on clay :p --> Tony Estanguet (head of the Paris 2024 Olympics organising committee) has confirmed that in an interview:
https://www.rolandgarros.com/en-us/...s-a-huge-asset-for-paris-2024-summer-olympics

I doubt he'd play until he is 38 (he'll turn 38 during the RG that year) but if he does, imagine how epic it'd be if he got a second Olympic singles gold and tied Murray's record at that age  Very unlikely though

Yup, I don't see them lasting that long, to be honest. Djokovic and Nadal will have done well if they are in the top 10 at the age of 34. Their styles put a lot of pressure on their body and Nadal has already surprized me and lasted way beyond my expectation. Good on him, but I don't see him playing at the top level for any longer than next 2 years.
