I wanted to thank @saleem for helping me customize my K7 Lime. My goal was 335sw and 7-8pts HL with my Lime. In stock form it’s just too light (which I had expected even before ordering the frame). I started out with 6g of tungsten tape at 9/3 which felt good as far as sw. But the balance felt a little off so I added some tape at the handle, 7” from buttcap. That felt better except that the all in weight was 356g.

Saleem has an RDC machine and ran some specs for me. Turns out I could accomplish my target sw and balance point with just 4g at 60cm, higher than where I had the tape at 3/9. The resulting mgr/I, recoil weight etc. would look more ideal as well - though I frankly only have a basic understanding of these metrics.

Anyways, the frame now plays beautifully. At 351g is not too heavy (K7 swings fast so it helps masking the weight IMO), I hit my spec sw and balance, and with Black Knight @51lbs it’s an awesome frame for my doubles game.

Agreed. @saleem is one of the nicest and more knowledgeable posters here without a doubt. Has helped me numerous times as well.

I never tested TC95,but the launch angle is pretty much similar to the TC97(18x20),and very different from higher launch angle of my TC100s(extended to 27,50”) and from K7 Red.
The TT100p feel is very different from Angell’s Foam Filled Custom sensation but very very confortable too.I would say a faster SW /direct” ball impact and not so “buttery” as Angells(?).
Comparing directly with TC100 I would say that it doesn’t have any kind of that weird vibrations that I felt on my RA63 TC100’s(both).
So,TC97 is definitely the most similar in every aspects, but with a more tight 18x20 stringbed.
But,as I said:I still love the TC97 Custom...it was a hard choice to select one of both!Maybe next year I will go along with this one...

I noted those vibrations on the TC100 63 RA too. More of a revurberation really though it’s not so noticeable on very hard shots. In my case, my then tender golfers elbow reacted badly to them though it had been a comfy racquet for years until then.

Have wondered if the k7 red or the 70ra tc95 tc100 feature them also. Do you (or others who’ve tried these variants as well as the 63RA ones, and who have also experienced the weird vibes on the 63RA TC100) , know?

No, nothing in k7 or the 70RA. Also, TC95 63RA V3 it is not noticeable for me but felt a bit in V2.

Yeah, I agree head size is hard to tell and they share grommets. However the K7 is
more forgiving hitting so when you hit it does feel like a bigger head size. It is a bit of a mystery in all honesty but maybe if let’s say TC95 is more like a 96, can anyone really see the difference of 96 to 98?
Last week I played with my K7 Lime for the second time.

This time I really noticed how much more forgiven the K7 plays. Especially hitting service returns feels much easier than with my TC95.

The K7 also don't punish you as much when you don't hit the ball perfectly. I still won some points while I didn't hit that ball clean. Quick shots like half volleys and reaction volleys are easier to hit as well because of the better maneuverability.

However I want to customize a bit more to make it a bit more solid. That's why I ordered (the heaviest) TW Private Label leather that I would exchange with the Babolat Natural leather. According the TW Europe it seems to be 32 grams untrimmed while the Babolat is 27 grams. I also hope it'll be a little thicker as well. After that I'll add 2 grams (2 inches long strips) of lead at 10 and 2 (right above the 4 inch long lead strips at 3 and 9 (= 4 grams) that I already placed.).

This way I first customize only by feel and see how heavy I can go with my K7 Lime.

I tried the textreme tour 100p alongside the Tc95 16x19 again today. I love the muted feel of the Prince and the buttery feel of the TC. The first one is more crispier on impact, the latter is somehow less muted.

Launch angle, anyway, is really different. I can say I'm accustomed to the Prince one better.

Moreover the Prince with multifilament is letting me play without worrying about my almost over epicondilytis. When I do some hits with the Angell it curiously wakes up some annoyance at the elbow (not pain, just hassles). Maybe it's because it's strung with tonic 1.35 with a stiff cross poly.

Anyway... When you it and have in the hands the 2 frames, the feeling is like holding a toy versus something bullet proof

I have played both and 100p is an easy weapon to use, very good stick, tc95 is more demanding racket perhaps for a high level to play good, prince is very easy with great feel, control, stability, maneuverability and descent power and spin

I guess in the process of making the K7 more solid, you wish to make it less head light. Correct?

correct.. it would be the lead on the hoop that will make it more solid, tail weight (head light) generally makes it more maneuverable.

Snapped Hyper-G today. Quite surprised as this is the first time I have broken strings in 18x20 and I generally don't break strings like some spin monsters do. Anyway, next up is current favorite of a lot of people here; Black Knight.

What gauge you playing in 18x20?

I like 17. The 16 gets too thick in TC97 18x20 and hence there is literally zero snapback.
I already used the volkl cyclone tour 1.30 in the head pt630 and it was excellent. I think it will look good on TC97 18x20 as well. For she is a very soft rope for her gauge.

I hated Cyclone Tour 16 in my V2 TC97 18x20. For me, the dense pattern 18x20 perform best with 17 gauge. Cyclone Tour is a soft string though, you are right.

Hi Saleem. Thank you for the response. Have you customized a K7 Red? I tend to hit in the middle of the racket, so I currently have 2" of lead at 10, 2 and added a replaced the synthetic grip with a Fairway leather. Looking for a little more solid feel on volleys and serve. Any suggestions?

Its quite fast. Its called Mondo, if I'm not mistaken. Much prefer outdoor hard courts though. Ball slides a lot more in this, very 'first strike' tennis. Big servers dream. And very hard to play defense.

thanks for sharing. The indoor courts I have played on were shell. it looked like clay.

Ironically I put a 16g in my PK Redondo MP on a play test. It seemed to be a very stiff string. I probably just got lucky on my 2nd serve. One of the coaches stepped in thinking it would be a typical weekend warrior dink serve. For the life of me I can't hit those...so I swing away to hopefully get a kick serve in. I hit a kicker at the height of his shoulder. Granted he was around 5'6".

And to be honest zero problem with my TC95s 16x19. Black night @48lbs and 3g @2&10 and can flatten out when I want easily and drive through the court. In fact I find ability to easily change trajectories very useful
absolutely, it is a feature that is so special with the tc95 16x19... hyper spin to flat blast is on tap if you know how to unlock it. Hit yesterday after a holiday break... really special

I have hyper g 1.18 in my heavily weighted up blade 2015 104 and last winter had cyclone tour 1.19. I mention as it’s a dense 18x19 pattern and flexible racquet so although not Angell may have some relevance. Hyper g has better spin and control in hot weather but feels noticeably stiffer and deader since the temperature dropped ( current cold temps 5 Celsius ). It’s still good but the cyclone tour retained its elasticity and performance a bit more in the cold last winter. CT Feels really comfy for a poly too. Prefer the hyper g when the weathers warmer though. More snap back on hyper g too.

Remarkable frame the 16x19, but since moving to the TC95 18x20, I have to say I haven't missed it for a second. But let me flip the formula for its (18x20) specialty ... flaming arrows to sculpting spin on demand ... if you can unlock it;) Guess it all boils down to the foundation, perspective, and approach one brings to the sport, not to mention mechanics.

@topspn, yes, the 16x19 was working fine, but the 18x20 is an ideal match for my game. When results come instinctively, and you're not even thinking about the frame, you've found a good one. Confidence is everything in this sport.

Btw, I have them strung with Klip 18 natural gut mains and volkl v-sense crosses 18g (48/45).

Interesting you went for a pretty soft string setup but thinner gauge totally makes sense with the frame

With my not-yet-fully-healed elbow I think I'm gonna stick to just multis for some time. Trouble is the TC100 that I use needs something to rein it in a little. Currently I've got Head Velocity natural 16 in there, which plays fine, but is still a little more wild than velocity black in my donnay formula. Thinking Prince Premier Control could perhaps tame the beast a little bit, but I wonder if anybody has any suggestions for other control-oriented multis that could steady the racquet out a bit.

tecnifibre hdx tour and prince premier control 56-58 lbs full bed or 54/50 hybrid with soft round poly like Krish evolution, silverstring or rslyon are good options

I’d certainly try a syn gut which have more control then multis. Like prince or Gosen OG sheep

Hmmm... someday I might pick up an 18x20 TC95. Back when I hit with YT prestiges Id switch between the MP and Pro depending on the weather, usually using the MP because it was softer and I used heavy spin less. If I played more doubles again Id likely get use out of an 18x20 but unless i do some league play getting those doubles crews together would be 3X as difficult as just a singles hit.

if anyone is using angell's hybrid grip (without an OG) - how do you make/keep it tacky? I read about leather grip treatments - denaturated alcohol + castor oil - do you think the same could be used for a hybrid? (Adding OG not option this time as I went for size 5 and anything extra would bee too big)

Before I jumped to the 18x20, I was experimenting with Tecnifibre Multifeel 16 in my TC95 16x19s at around 56#. I was impressed with the control I got from it, and the string doesn't move. Try it out but string it at least mid-50s.

I wish we had someone who could confirm our suspicions that since K7 lime measures 64RA then there has been an adjustment to the red. The red first few batches were quite soft and more like 56RA. Anyone have a red from last few months with measured RA?

I have three K7 red. First one bought during Feb 2018, then on June 2018 and the final one is a month ago. The first one plays really soft and the other two plays firm and like a 62-64 RA kind of firm. So there is stiffness adjustment made. As a result I gain in power too.

Whoever felt the first few batches of K7 anaemic, should definitely try the new batch.
