In her courtside interview, Osaka apologized to the crowd for getting the umpire's warning for smashing the racket, and told them to pretend it didn't happen.
"Hopefully learn from that moment," she said later. "I tend to keep a lot of things bottled up. I just felt like in that moment sort of releasing it was easier than just keeping it inside."

I don’t buy the “tend to keep a lot of things bottled up” comment. She was getting beat and she is the favorite and in the limelight and being beaten by Tshieu and couldn’t deal with it. Good she was able to get thru it.

I can easily forgive her for smashing racquets.

What is unbearable is listening to her talk.

Osaka:

"Ummmmmm..................... like.............ummmmmm...........................(checks phone)......................yeah........................I just.............................. you know ...................... (flashes adorable awkward smile)............... ummmm......... got like..................... yeah ................ (almost cries).............. a little frustrated ........................ yeah .............. ummmmm ............ you know ......................... (looks into distance)...........I'm sorry.................. ummmm....................."

Perhaps, the OP posted this in a tongue-in-cheek way, but I can't believe the shots people are taking at her. To me, (pardon the cliche), she's been a much needed breath of fresh air for the tennis world.

(...why we can't have nice things and nice people.)

She is young, rich, beautiful, successful, popular with the opposite sex and she is getting to do it in her own unique way. There is always a cell of people who aren't happy about people like that, and need to let everyone know how upset they are about it.

She is child of Japanese-Haitian parents. So I would like to think her awkwardness and speaking habits more to do with her upbringing / culture.

I did not think she is fake. She is barely 21, I am going to give her a pass.

Now Anisimova looks like a complete package.. Has the game of a tactician and also has a Sharapova like demenaour. See her raking the millions in price money and endorsements.

Substitute "Uhhhhhhs" for "Ummmmms" and you've got the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau!

Just listen to him talk for a few minutes. :(

She's a tennis player, not a public orator.

When you win a big tournament you have a platform to speak publicly to thousands and even millions of people so you are a public orator in more ways than most people on earth.

Watch her speech at last year's IW championship. Her opponent was incredibly well spoken and articulate while Osaka spoke like a drunken sorority girl.

I honestly don't care about post match speeches that much but her's are so bad it kind of shocks me.

Fed breaks racquets and I don't care, so I can tolerate players breaking racquets

Osaka is still a child. she acts like 14 year old most of the time still.

She definitely was home schooled and quite possibly asleep during English when sentence structure was being discussed.

I don't get why there's a whole thread dedicated to this incident. I don't support players doing stuff like this, I personally find it immature and unnecessary, but she's neither the first nor the last player to smash her racquet in a moment of frustration. She's not even the first one to do so in this tournament. Why makes this so special to deserve a thread?

And hey, at least she apologized for it. Most players who do this just brush it off and pretend they did nothing wrong. Even fan favorites and legends of the sport do it without getting a thread for it.

So vile is not squeezing your opponents hand until they scream:unsure:...interesting.
23 slams.

Who cares about the number of slams that a person wins? Success is not correlated with class. Serena is a vile individual, and contrary to what you'd believe, it isn't the majority of her detractors who are vile but her supporters - most of whom share the same vile traits that she does.

I didn’t know you know her personally, 23 slams.

And who made you the judge of class? Lol! Vileness often appears with jealousy, I’m sure if Venus had 23 slams you’d be the same with her too.

Ask yourself. You were the one who claimed that Serena's detractors are vile.
Again, you seem confused by something somewhat simple. Nobody is concerned with the number of slams she's won. That has nothing to do with this discussion.
