I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to like something over the past few days. It's so damn frustrating.
Me too!. I have this itchy twitch to like everything that seems original, entertaining or very humorous. For me this whole place is way less fun this way.(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)

It's tougher to touch base with everyone now. Sometimes a like can be a way of saying hello too. Folks don't always have the time to converse. It's hard to believe there's actually 30 people that voted no.

This is the same thing, but it takes several clicks. You can see by this poll that most of us liked the feature. You know how it goes. A small minority of unpleasant people find a way of ruining things for all the rest of us.

From now on, if you like a post but have no content to add, it is best to just not reply.
Nobody want to sift thru a million "LIKE" posts.
Like it and add content. More work but makes for a much better user experience.

Best part about the like system was you could sift through posts easily in a thread and ignore the rest of the rubbish

this is whack (n)(n)(n)

It's a direct response to a flood of "Reported" posts.

I see that my thread about it here in GPPD has been waxed (no rationale offered).

And that's the gist of the problem: irresponsible posters have the luxury of anonymously reporting, and then having their bidding done.

Many of them are well-known posters, though.
I don't quite understand how the 2 issues are connected.

Was it posts with a ton of likes that were being reported?

But that's not what happens. Posters just do the easy thing and "like" without replying.

And also as someone admitted pressing "like" is also a form of touching base. Albeit the laziest form of touching base. Now you have to do the minimum and compose a one sentence reply... or else you don't exist.

An alternative solution would be some sort of quota (X number of likes only if one has posted X number of posts etc... that could weed out the zombie accounts who virtually never post and only hit the like button.

Like I said, I have no problem with the return of the like button, but its inception clearly decreased the quality of the debates on this board - even with that it remains as the only decent place to discuss tennis on the internet. Way too much trolling came with the like button, it's not just a coincidence.

People say rubbish things here and there, and got motivated and stimulated to repeat that same antics on every thread because they get lots of likes. I understand there's a good point in that, like someone said, it is very useful in a lot of subforms specially when it related to tips, but on GPPD?

I got a little tired after Wimbledon this year or in every post-season break to open the main page of the forum and seeing 102 threads about who's the GOAT and then some new account trolls vomiting horse crap just for getting a couple of likes by their respective big3 fanbase. And in the end that's what mostly happens in every single thread after they came with it.

Likes count gives a false sense of validation, as it becomes a matter of how many people agree with you rather than if you're right or wrong. So no matter if you're commenting some ********, but if someone agrees with you or not.

People here comment matches they haven't seen, players they never saw playing, make some comparisons with absolutely no context... just to get a couple of likes. And then they do that in every thread, every single time. Just to get more likes.

My daily routine on the forum started with checking my alerts so the “like” function was basically a reset for me, reminding me what threads I had contributed to the day before and how everyone else had responded.

When Xenforo was installed in 2015(?), it was much easier to regain train of thought daily because of the (y).

At least, for now, the 10-character threshold has not been reinstated so if you really like a post you can hit “reply” and hook up the contributor with a (y) or another appropriate response. Of course, the ta*ds that abused the:mad: and precipitated gross overreaction by Maude will now have that option too.

That’s not why “likes” were taken away. We had the one option of reaction for four years. Everything was pretty much OK for a good long time. Then just weeks ago they expanded to an entire emoji bar, including . If you disliked something for a good reason, some immature cretins that you criticized with the shorthand :mad:were seeking out all of your posts and assigning retaliatory:mad:s for totally unbiased reportage style contributions.

I heard something about that. Really childish. Effort alone to do something that pointless is mind boggling. Dislike/negative reaction is not really needed though. If one disagrees with the post they should either ignore it/user or reply to criticize it.

When will @TW Staff or someone else from mods comment on this issue? Why doesn't they tell if the 'like' button goes back or not? As poll shows, the vast majority of TW posters want a button 'like' come back and I belong to them. Do mods ignore vox populi?

Age old maxim is, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” If you don’t agree, scan further; if you do agree and appreciate, hit “like.” It worked for four years.

Lol sorry, but maybe u just care too much? There was nothing wrong with saying you heard/read/acknowledged a post without HAVING TO REPLY. If you see likes as that important idk what to say. It's a tennis forum it's not that serious.

"Like" was most commonly used to express agreement/appreciation with a post. It was convenient and unobtrusive.

Now, we most definitely do not want a million replies with only a thumbsup; no content. I suspect people are doing it now just to protest the button removal, which is fine... If the button does not come back, the key question is whether the no-content replies will continue. Sifting thru those posts will be too cumbersome.

I appreciate what you’re saying but the issues you outlined have and will remain prevalent with or without the button.

This place has never been a serious place to discuss tennis or much of anything for that matter. That was true long before the function was introduced.

There are tons of posters here with good info. I've met and played several personally who were very high level players. You just have to filter out the ones just here to troll.

Yes forgive me I didn’t mean to imply it is non existent. Just that with or without the button there will always be threads devoid of any actual content. I feel like they should just go back to the original system without the reactions.

Sometimes it’s hard to get serious discussion going on here. Not just in this section either.

I have to be honest. There's no satisfaction whatsoever unless you argue with someone. Atleast that's how I feel. Either that or have a good exchange with someone you agree with. Good exchanges are nice, but we all need some spice because it's a place to discuss and disagree too. It seems to to me that it brings out the bad side of me. I'm thinking more and harder and longer, but it's also breeding negativity. It's hard to explain. WE NEED LiKES BaCK.

Gotcha. I just miss being able to quickly "like" a post since there is some quality stuff posted but I'm not gonna take time to quote every one of them.

I find it bizarre how they introduced lots of reactions then did away with the like altogether.

A lot of you fine folk may not even realize that my thread on a similarly-themed topic is now nearly 1,000 posts strong.

Yup.

Honored with a thread title change to boot.

Read 'em and weep. :giggle:

Good that it's gone. To get likes here all you need to do is lick the most popular players ass and you are good to go. Stroke your own ego.

Which fanbase do you suppose is suffering the most? Though the answer is probably a bit given.
