Bianca Andreescu!

Bianca The Teenager will be in Top 10 after this tournament no matter what the score will be next match. Crazy.

What's her record against top 10 players? Seems like that is another freaky Andreescu stat.

The amazing thing for me is a player with so much variety mastering shot selection at the top tour level at such an early stage in her career. Has so many ways to end a point and doesn't really pick the wrong option too often.

And yet 2 pages later, you've admitted you actually don't care if the MTO's are fake or not (which is completely fine) but why are you arguing then? That's why she's seen as a drama queen. That's the answer. You apparently don't care but that doesn't mean others like Kerber and other posters here don't.

I argue because some folks are insinuating that they are sure the MTO's are not legitimate. Just because I don't particularly care whether they are or not doesn't mean I don't care if baseless criticism and shade is thrown at a player without evidence.
Sounds like you are going all straw man on me.

I don't believe you call a person a drama queen until you are certain their actions are false.

And how many MTO's has she used in the USO run so far? If they were a tactical thing then she most certainly should have used one after the second set of the Townsend match and after the first set of the Mertens match. But didn't happen because, hey, maybe she only uses them when something hurts. What a shock that would be (in all facetiousness).

I will say though that she has mastered that Pete Sampras hangdog appearance.

I believe She hasnt lost to a top 10 player yet

Bianca has injury problems, and she's missed a big portion of the season because of this. Her MTO during matches are not fake, she is pushing her body hard and this is the result.

So many people make these snap judgement they must be fit as a fiddle just because they're playing a match... or if they're losing it must be "fake". Haha, how about you go out and play professional tennis and see how well your body feels day-to-day. Truth is many players are fighting some issue with their bodies but are still playing, because it's still possible to win. We've heard the top guys say they play tournaments when they think they can win, not when they're 100% free of ailments.

Composure, variety and quality when it mattered. Good signs but Serena is just purring away watching all those DFs and balls up the middle of the court.

Can't wait to see her play Serena. She has a similar belief level to what Williams had at the same age, but obviously manifests it in a different way.

A potential upset by Andreescu kind of reminds me of when Sharapova broke out in her win over Serena , Wimbledon 2004 (can't believe it's been 15 years already!) , also making it into the top 10.
But she seems to have more versatility and shots than Maria ever did and a repeat of that young determination.

My analysis.
Groundies = Serena
Serve = Serena
Return of Serve = Serena
Net game = even
Movement = Bianca

expect more double faults from Bianca. Great backhand that needs to move Serena or it's runner-up

she so good, how good can she be ? 5 majors ? 15 majors ?

2 or 3. She has the smarts and the skills, she just doesn't have the size, power, and physique. Physically, she was struggling last night. She has the ability to still make shots even when exhausted, while Bencic's game crumbled when she started losing stamina.

This OP certainly aged well. Great prediction. I watched her quarterfinal match and felt bad as the announcers seemed to be obsessed with how much she was sweating, hinting she was out of shape. It seemed they were all but outright saying she was overweight.

Sweating and fitness have almost nothing to do with each other. Look at Nadal, for an example...

Power? She's hit 197 winners compared to Williams 165 in this tourney (Admittedly 30 more games). Andreescu has plenty of power.

Her tennis dimensions (height, shoulder width, torso to leg ratio, bow legged) are pretty ideal for a female player. Similar to Borg. Just needs to lean up a little bit and work the cardio (but 19 year olds take a while to own that issue I find). But other than that she looks very agile and athletic and essentially hit Bencic and Townsend off the court.

We'll see how she does against a healthy Serena but she was destroying her in Toronto before Williams retired. The day off will be helpful for sure.

She is fun to watch. You’d think she’d be a defender, but she thinks offense first. Bright future.
Just a side note, what do you think the comparisons are between the Tennis Canada player development budget and the USTA’s? Canada has FAA on the men’s side and Andreescu on the women’s side and we have.......nothing.
Because we need to pay the big bucks to the McEnroe brothers especially Patrick :mad: can have that money going to the junior players

Congrats Bianca. Very even match with Bencic but Bianca's mental strength and never say die attitude won it in the end.
She is like the WTA's Rafa Nadal. Not in terms of pure physicality, of course. But in her will to win and tenacity.
The longer the finals go the more things swing in favor of Andreescu. Williams will not want to be chasing down drop shots and lobs for very long.
We might even see William's "back injury" come into play again as it did in Toronto.

Her injuries make perfect sense. Her talent level outpaces her experience. When you first break on tour you usually lose a bunch and have time to work on fitness, weight training and to recover. This is important for a pro that transitions from being a junior to an adult. Bianca has all the game she will ever need, but her success is really taking a toll on her body. The time off she's taking is really smart. After this US Open she should take everything off until the WTA Finals then play nothing until the AO. Take that time to recover and train. She's only 19, she has nothing but time at this point.

She'll win many matches on power alone. She basically matches Serena in that department and it's won her 23 slams just because she's more powerful than 95% of the women on tour.
The championship nerve certainly helps though o_O playing this player on this court? About as hard a test as you'll get. To bounce back in those last 2 games after the way things turned was incredible. I'd say the only concern is how healthy she stays. Already had her issues this year.
