What is your IQ?

IQ tests are good and gives an idea about a person's intelligence but what I experienced in life is that people have different type of IQs. That's why that most stupid looking football player is so brilliant in the match.

I believe we've talked about this before, a long time ago.

I feel compelled to point out that theories such as Gardner's are fringe positions and not mainstream cognitive psychology and clinical neuropsych. As numerous researchers have pointed out, the traditional, mainstream conception of intelligence already explains a lot of variation in ability in the skills Gardner talks about; and a lot of the rest of what he's talking about has less to do with 'intelligence' in the sense the word is typically used and more to do with 'abilities' and personality traits.
I don't have the intelligence to understand what you guys are discussing.

I never have an IQ test. I hope there is a machine which can scan our brain and automatically determine our IQ score.
I hope there is a machine one day that can increase my IQ to normal levels. I am sick of being the bluntest knife in the drawer wherever I go.

I'd like to know how it feels to be witty and smart like suresh and dgold.

IQ tests are basically about logic. How to solve a problem to make it “harmonic”. At least that’s what I think is fun w it. I can do it since for me IQ tests are fun. I also like sudoku a lot, which is also about logic. Crosswords I’m really bad at.
IQ tests are largely logic/math. Fluid and crystallized intelligence. Also linguistic (verbal) and some spatial "intelligence". It could reflect an ability to solve many types of problems. In addition to crosswords, not sure if an IQ score would reflect ability to solve all types of problems (emotional problems, athletic & kinesthetic problems, etc).

Anybody here knows exercises to grow IQ?
Perhaps. Elementary Cognitive Tasks might be useful. Other software training, like BrainHQ or Lumosity, may (or may not) help. Actually a wide variety of mental and physical exercises might be the ticket. Sudoku, cryptic crosswords, Scrabble, logic problems, Testris, chess, Go, reaction time training, etc.

Even learning to perform tasks with eyes closed or using your non-dominant hand could build more brain connections. Meditation, martial arts and adequate quality sleep can go a long way to boosting brain power. If poor diet choices (like too much sugar) are holding you back, these foods could be beneficial:

(y) Very good (mentioned this in post #16)

IQ tests could have a very strong correlation to academic success in school -- esp for math, most science classes as well as other logic-oriented classes and some linguistic classes. However, high scores on IQ tests do not guarantee success in careers or in life, in general. No correlation to high IQ score and sucess (other than academic).

While Gardner's MI theories have not been accepted by all cognitive psychologists, it has been embraced by many educators. Teaching to a variety of learning styles developed out of the acceptance of Gardner's MI theories of the 1980s. (However, MI and learning styles should not be considered synonymous according to Howard Gardner).

"Human minds receive information in different ways according to different backgrounds and experiences. From here comes the importance of studying the different kinds of intelligences through which a human being receives, decodes, understands, applies, and analyzes information. In order to be successful in teaching, a teacher has to improve their abilities to address all students’ thinking"

"In school, we tend to focus primarily on verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligence, but many students are highly skilled/intelligent in other ways... Each of us has a range of skills, strengths and weaknesses. (Applying MI theory) helps you improve how you plan, teach and assess them (students) by building on their strengths while using differentiated instruction to help them develop and progress."

You can’t grow it more than 5 points
You can easily drop it by doing drugs or getting brain damage in football or boxing

Iq is based on a template. What happens when the mind is greater than those who write the test?

2+2=4 gets you a 70, 2+3=5 gets you a 80. How does this exponential hypothosis of intelligence even equate? We are simply testing the bountries of the current mind and comparing.

Explains how iq works in reality. People with very high iq's are usually savants who cannot function in real life
I guess that could be true. But what is "very high"? 140? I would think you'd be fine up until numbers like that, maybe passed it.

Crosswords isn’t logic like sudoku. Crosswords requires more knowledge than logic/iq.

160+

This one is surprising

12. Sharon Stone (IQ level- 154)

This sexy seductress actually is alleged to have an IQ of 154. She has been nominated for several prestigious awards and even received many awards. Who thought the bold and confident actress in Basic Instinct could actually have an IQ that would put many men to shame? She was always an academically bright student and entered second standard at the age of five. She accepted a scholarship to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania when she was just 15years old. She accepted the scholarship and went there to study creative writing and fine arts.

Okay, I wouldn't argue with that. 160 is crazy high haha.

"that would put many men to shame?"

Honestly! Who writes this sexist ****.
That's not sexist. Or rather, it is not meant to be sexist. Mankind refers to men and women. Perhaps the term evolved at a time were sexism was rampant, but I think using terms like "man" and "mankind" is not necessarily sexist when it is meant to encompass both sexes.

BTW, isn't using the expression "both sexes" also offensive to any of the human bean-like entities that identify with some other sort of sexual category?

You can't step on a dog turd without offending somebody these days. Good times!

Actress Hedy Lamarr is credited with developing (inventing) a radio frequency-hopping system that was used in WWII. This invention has been instrumental in modern cell phone technology. Her IQ was "Way Up There"

Her IQ was definitely "Way Up There" as were her bossoms. Sadly loss of collagen and senility caused a general drooping of both her IQ and other assets in her later life.
