What strings do you play with?

Racquet: Head Gravity Tour (just moved away from a Pure Drive)
Level: 4.0
Playstyle: Aggressive Baseliner
Current strings: Head Velocity MLT 16 @ 52 lbs
Fave strings: Don't have one at the moment, use to use Solinco Hyper G 18 on my Pure Drive @ 49/47 lbs (yea, I know, terrible for my arm). Just got the tour, so I haven't used it with enough strings to have a fave for it.
(Optional: Fun fact): I once bagelled the sureshs, in my dreams!

Testing out different polys right now in my pro staff 95. Have Polytour pro currently @52lbs. Next in line is Tecnifibre black code at same tension.

Angell TC 100 27.5 inches.
Current Strings: Hyper G 1.30
Favourite: Still testing. Trying Klip NG 1.30/Yonex PTF 1.25 next. Hyper G 1.30 works well for my game.

#1. Tier One Firewire in the mains with their Strike Force RIP in the crosses. If I was Tier One, I would package the two strings as a hybrid option and name it - "Obsessive".

#2. Mayami Big Spin mains and Mayami Magic Twist crosses. Lower power version of #1 for folks who have no problem with racquet head speed. Crisp string bed for volleys. My go-to for doubles the last month.

#3. Ytek Octo Twist and Tier One Ghost Wire - still under review, but destined to be #3 unless something else comes along.

are there significant benefits to poly hybrids (as opposed to mixes with nat/syn gut/multifilaments)

Took a bit of trying out different combinations, but I’ve found that Luxilon Natural Gut in the mains 58lbs and Luxilon Savage in the crosses 55 lbs is a really good string set up for me.

Edit: Wilson Clash Tour

Tecnifibre TF40 305:

1) Tier One Ghostwire (full bed) at 44/40
2) Tier One Firewire / Ghostwire at 44/40
3) Babolat VS / Ghostwire at 54/48

Currently my goto setup is full bed Ghostwire, testing the others out. Used to be a Head Velocity guy, string around 50-54lbs depending on the frame, but found that low tension Ghostwire is just as comfortable and does pretty much everything better on court.

I am a huge fan of Firewire and Big Spin because they are triangle shaped strings. When strung with a round or square string, a sharp edge face up on string bed giving a player to really, really easy access to spin due to the way the string bed bites into the ball. The benefit to using these two with a slick cross like Ghost Wire, Prince XC Tour, Tier One's Strike Force RIP is ridiculous amount of RPMs you can hit generate. When you find your Goldilock tension with my #1 it is almost magical. If a player is a flat hitter, the combos I like are of no benefit whatsoever to them for the most part. For someone who is predominately a slicer with racquetball strokes, I switch the strings around as it can make their backspin even nastier. My next round of testing will be with Mayami's Big Spin and Tier One' RIP or Ghost Wire.

However, if you have arm issues or had in the past then stay away from poly setups. Go with a nat/syn gut/multifilaments set up. NXT and MicroFiber X are my two recommend strings.

I played with Diadem Solstice Power for a few years but am thinking of switching to a more control oriented poly now, maybe RPM Blast or Cyclone. I don't want to deal with the Solstice Power launching my balls into orbit 6 hours in anymore.

I hope your arm stays healthy with that setup

No pain whatsoever. I've had some racquets in the past bother my arm a little, including older Pure Drives and some more flexible sticks from other brands. This current model PD with a little customization leaves my arm feeling fine after long, hard hitting sessions, knock on wood.

After adjusting my forehand technique and (specially) my serve, I've returned to stiff, higher tension polys.

Just curious, what changes did you make to your technique?

I've never heard anyone use such tensions, what are its benefits?

Forehand: getting to the ball earlier, hitting the ball more in front of me, with my elbow extended. Also trying more loopy forehands when I'm late.
Serve: higher toss, hitting the ball at a higher contact point, with my arm straighter, focusing on wrist snapping, using more of my body rotation and less of my shoulder.

Mostly small adjustments, but it took me ~6 months to be able to do it consistently.

interesting, I mostly have arm issues with the serve. I've recorded myself, and I think my toss and contact point are pretty much maked out, but I need to definitely work on more body rotation

After much experimentation over the past 1.5 or so years ive settled on Natural Gut Mains / Kirschbaum Max Power crosses in my Yonex Vcore Pro 97's. 362g static weight, 12.5pt head light.

Fiddled with tension and 62/58lb is what I have liked the most. Highly recommend the Kirsch MP as a cross for anyone trying gut, it is super low-powered (contrary to the name), slippery, and most importantly has very low tension loss for a poly so the setup lasts a very long time.

Currently using Babolat VS or Tonic gut... it all feels about the same to me. Used to use Klip Legend before the price hike but I like Babolat stuff more now.

been hearing good things about it, but never had a chance to get some

was hoping to get some on Black Friday discounts, but couldn't find discounts (though there seemed to be some on european websites)

I'm trying this setup at a slightly lower tension in my new VCORE HD next week - right now I'm using gut/Proline.

How would you rate max power/ MP rough against poly tour fire/ rpm rough as a cross?

Im not really a string breaker so tension maintenance of the poly is important.

I've recently jumped from pure poly to a hybrid setup. Had my first hard hit with an ATP player, setup is 1.30 klip legend/ 1.25 yptf. I think I'm hooked!

How is the gut/proline? I have not tried it yet but I have some pro line that I could maybe give it a go. I liked proline in full bed - only tried it once but it was good - but tension loss was pretty huge and pretty fast.
