If Nadal was 15-20% better on other surfaces...

He'd end up making more finals.
Agreed?

So, by that logic we can also assume that he'd be playing Federer in those finals.
Agreed?

So, as Federer crushes everyone else in non-clay finals, we'd have the following scenario, over say, a 2-year period:

GRAND SLAMS
Australian - Federer
French - Nadal
Wimbledon* - Even
US Open - Federer
(* factoring-in that the lame-ass Wimbledon officials are 'slowing down the grass even more'
doh.gif
)

MASTERS
Indian Wells - Even
Miami - Even
Monte Carlo - Nadal
Rome - Nadal
Toronto - Federer
Cincinnatti - Federer
Madrid - Federer
Masters - Federer

So a quick calculation gives the following results:
Federer 15 Nadal 9

I think that's pretty reasonable.

Don't get me wrong - this isn't intended to be a slight on Nadal at all - I like his attitude and grit...it's the perfect foil for Federer's game....
But I'm looking at how he plays when guys like Blake, Berdych seem to do a number on him on hardcourts so he doesn't even get chance to reach those finals.

Federer won't beat Nadal on clay....but in turn, Nadal does have a chance on grass and the slower-hardcourts....

Why state pointless, troll-some, tired crap like the above? We all know Fed had two match points last year, could have easily beaten him on clay there, he probably will at some stage in the future, just as Nadal will beat Fed on a hardcourt again sometime....

If you're going to state things, state new, interesting and possibly reasonable things, not troll-crap.

Give Nadal few years and he will improve...What we see him doing on clay is ridicilous. Its sad but most expect him to do the same on fast surfaces. Hes 20, he grew up on clay. It takes time to adapt.

Same happened to Federer on clay, there was always some clay version of Blake or Berdych taking him down on early rounds. He adapted to clay, now there isnt anyone exept Nadal standing against him.

There is no reason to give him so many years. A player only has that number of years to be his best, either at the early ages such as Nadal's or at the later ages such as Federer's. Different people mature at different times physically. Nadal matures early, just look at his muscle when he was still a teenager. When he is 25 or 26, he won't be as good as Fed of today or even himself of today. It is a cycle, and there is only one peak period for everyone.

we are witnessing the best of him. it won't be in 3 years time.

I agree, but the moment something positive is said about Nadal its considered trolling. I should know because I've been accused wrongly of it. ;-) I'm innocent I tell you!

Yep, Nadal will be nothing in two years. I remember angry Fed fans screaming that same response in 2005. It's 2007. 72 matches and counting for Nadal and still no French for Fed. Nadal will be 22 by then. He'll still be fast and a factor on clay, he'll be even better outside of it as time goes on. I predict this, in 2009 Fed won't be winning 3 slams a year anymore. Maybe not even 2.

I dont expect Nadal to continue this clay dominance for many years. What we see is something special just like Federers dominance on grass. There will come players to stop their winning streaks.

I dont think Nadal will drop the rankings in the next 5 years(even if the clay dominance would end). He might not win MC,Barc,Rome and RG every year. But he will be succesful in those tournaments. What is going to happen in the future is that he will gain more and more points around the year...including in the end of the season.

This is the problem in the discussion in these boards. Nadal critics think that he is doomed to be succesful on clay. And when he cant win on clay hes career is over. Thats just stupid.

If Nadal can put the same type of game he did at Indian Wells, I think will be able to get to more finals. Too bad he doesn't stick with his gameplan of attacking players like he did there. Maybe he will eventually be able to consistently attack players on hard courts but is just learning to do it.
