How is your employer handling the outbreak?

I work for one of the big banks. They only told us that we are free to work home after all schools and day-care facilities, kids camps and programs are closed. They are forcing us to use our personal devices to install bank specific software in case remote connection doesn't work which collapsed today as so many were working from home. They're not offering any help or financial support to their employees although the bank made record profit last year.

Added a key word there. I think I read here that a poster has a friend in good shape and in his 30s that’s in a coma after returning home from a ski trip to Italy. The risks are there for all lifestyles.
Absolutely!! It’s been cases here too warning cause people in a good shape, healthy, workout 4-5 times a week, does downhill skiing, get sick from this too, even hospitalised.

They don’t know for sure why kids don’t get so sick. Theory is that they are exposed to colds and flu all the time and their immune system is really active.

R&D here - working at home majorly but whenever I will need the bigger equipments for testing, need to go to work. We compartmentalize our work that way.

All our sales personnel are asked to stay at home, factories with continuous line production have one or two quality, maintenance and safety inspectors visiting on shifts - the idea is to avoid too many people gethering at one place at a time.

Norwalk/Norovirus hit our household this past christmas. 17 out of 18 puking their guts up and having bad diarrhea. It hit people one by one over the course of 2-3 days. The only 'relief' is that it comes fast and hard and dies down relatively quick.

The one of the 18? Me somehow. I did not vomit or feel any of its effects, despite being in closed quarters with the afflicted for a long period of time and there only being one bathroom on the property. Couldn't leave because my car wasn't there and nobody was in a condition to drive so I just assumed responsibilities as a caretaker.

I kept expecting to go down but never did.

My dad joked at the time "at least it's not corona". Who knew how bad that would get.

I'd argue Noro at full bore is worse than the lions share of mild cases of Corona though.

Norovirus is a biaaaatch!!! It put my mother in the hospital for a week last year. I stayed with her that week and never caught it from her. Maybe because I had it before years ago ... not sure. I had it at the same time with my wife ... and could not believe how brutal it was. I can't even wrap my head around the cruise ships that had norovirus outbreaks ... just shoot me and get it over with.

Dude it was crazy. I think the craziest thing is how long it can stay dormant before attacking. Of the 17 that fell ill, it happened at different junctures and for some in different states after leaving! That's why I was so certain I would get it eventually. I have no idea how I dodged that bullet, insanely fortunate. I cannot recall ever having anything like it either, so I don't know when I would have become immune to it if I was.

Being on the toilet with explosive diarrhea while at the same time throwing up in the trash can ... good times ... begged for it to just be over. My wife got it first ... omg I did not want to catch THAT. I remember once in college after mixing beer and whiskey hanging on to a bathroom stall door and promising any deity listening if I was allowed to live that I would never drink again. Norovirus made that night look like a slight upset stomach. BTW ... I was drinking by the next weekend in college.

You have to buy special wipes to kill norovirus. I posted about it somewhere here on ttw ... but too lazy to search for it.

Same thing at our house dude, both ends at the same time. Before that I didn't even know that was possible.

And like I said...one bathroom on the property we were at. That first night was a constant shuffle ALL night in and out of the bathroom. Very, very unpleasant. And there I was..not sick...just waiting for it..and it never came. The mental toll was awful. I almost made myself sick by sheer reverse placebo or something.

There are no cases in my city yet,I work in a supermarket which is probably the last place that will close here. They just said stay home if you're not feeling well. I'm unsure what happens after that stage,I mean I'm not sure who makes the decision to self-isolate. I guess I would go to the GP and leave it up to them. Should be OK financially if that happens, can use sick leave, annual leave and I believe the govt has a wage subsidy failing that as well. Won't do any stocking up until there is a case in my city, trying not to worry too much but it's pretty hard not to worry following the media. Every day,it's getting worse!

Thank you so much for helping care for other people. We all need to survive and I am grateful for the people making personal sacrifices to go to work and provide people with necessities.

A man enters a bank and says to the cashier:
- I want to open a ****ing account.
- Please, sir, it is forbidden to speak that way here.
- Why the **** do they ban that?
- Sir, I beg you to stop saying bad words.
- I don't give a damn what you think, I just want to open a miserable account in this ****ing bank.
Then the cashier leaves and returns to the bank manager.
The director leaves, angry and rebukes the man:
- Excuse me, sir, can I help you with something?
- ****! Of course. I just won 35 million euros in the lottery and I want to open a ****ing account in this **** bank.
- I see - says the director -, and this stupid ***** is bothering you, right?

Was concerned last week when I got a sore throat and fever too, thankfully the doctor said it shouldn't be anything serious. Back to feeling 100% health-wise.

I would, but I fear a conflict.

You see, I already have a case going to ensure community service for those who go over the 25 seconds limit ;)
Oh
The foundation ballerinas worldwide have just won their case against ballerina tennis as it’s all rights reserved for them. All ballerina winning slams are now contracted

Wash your hands all the time and don’t touch your face, keep distance. If you are consistent w this you will not get the virus. If you get symptoms, self isolate, when you are well again wait a couple of days and go back to work.
We will starve if supermarkets is closed. In Italy it’s only food stores open and pharmacy. You won’t close! Keep up the good work:D

Thank you. Washing hands all the time is easy and I'm trying not to touch my face but it's almost impossible to avoid getting close to other people unfortunately with everyone running around like a chicken with it's head cut off but I guess once people have stocked up,they won't have to do it again right?

Has to stop at some point!
I wonder, would anyone dear to cough? Think that isn’t the most accepted thing to do in public these days lol

Everyone is working from home. It's different and somewhat challenging. I'm reasonably set up but I need my space heater as my basement isn't heated.

@Azure @Sentinel are you getting that public service announcement every time you make a phone call?
Not everytime....first call everyday so far on my Airtel
Haven't made much calls but I think i've heard it a few times when my mother made a call. Its annoying.

Now even Amitabh Bacchan is coming on TV saying something about washing hands and throwing napkins you've sneezed in, into a closed dustbin. But what do i do after that ? Just put it in the trash which the trash guy handles by hand, without gloves !!!

@Sentinel has no employer - he is the employer. I wonder how he is treating his staff.
From today they have to wear face masks when they go to my mother's room. Even I am wearing a face mask whenever I go into her room.

btw, did you hear, of course you did. French Open postponed to September 20th or so. Does that make it AFTER the USO. Just wow.
You'll have to wait four long months before Rafa wins 20 :(

What about newspapers ?

My newspaper is delivered to my doorstep. It is not wrapped in plastic. Just rolled with a rubber band. I cannot wash it or sanitize it.

Mainly, should i let my mum read it or not ? She is bedridden so can't keep washing her hands.

There is no glove culture here. It is getting here though. You don't need to use too many napkins. It's a bad culture imo. Have a personal cloth. Washing with Dettol should solve most problems. I see it at work too. Too much use of paper towels and napkins everywhere. How did we get there?

I could not survive without paper towels. Dry hands after washing, use them as napkins, use them to keep things (silverware, toast, rolls, etc) from touching countertop during food prep, use them as throwaway rags, have used them as a kleenex to blow nose in kitchen hint: wet them first 8-B , coffee cups on paper towels next to coffee, put plastic lid on coffee maker water tank on paper towel when filling up tank, hold under k cup on way to trashcan, .................

You get the idea ... I am now paper towel dependent o_O

Edit: just reminded of another one ... clean out inside of coffee cup. I use 1/3 half and half ... like a little coffee with my half and half ... then end up microwaving often to warm up. Nuked half and half leaves a lining that won't just rinse out ... paper towel to the rescue ... no nasty scrubber ... hands don't touch inside of cup ... what not to like. (y)

I am always a paper towel person. Corona doesn't make me do anything extra. My life hasn't changed much since then other than that I am forced to work from home and frankly, I don't mind it as it allows me to rest a bit more and finish some projects but otherwise, it's really same old same old. I always wash my hands regardless so that too wasn't anything extra.
